Morena’s P O VMy parents were pack warriors. They were often training or in patrol duty. But they always made sure that one of them was around. Alpha Luke was kind enough to accomodate to that request as long as there was no state of emergency. My father, uncle Sion and Alpha Luke grew up together. So, they were very close. I could see the devastation in their eyes when my parents were killed.
It was a random rogue attack. Hundreds of rogues crossed the border in a split of a second. They were not detected or felt when they passed the pack borders until they came face to face with the first guard on patrol. It was a mess after that. All I remember was the screaming of women and the crying of children.
Mom was with us that night. She hid me and Rena in a secret cabinet in the kitchen. I did not know it was even there until that night. She told us to stay there. She put enfant Rena in my tiny arms and asked me to be quiet. She said she had to go. That daddy needed her. I begged her to stay. To take me with her. i was a child and I was afraid of being left alone with Rena while the pack was under attack.
She told me I was a big girl and that she trusted me to take care of My baby sister. That was the last time I saw her. She was killed during the attack. My father had not survived either. He passed away while protecting our luna. It was a honoring death. My parents were heroes.
I had nightmares for the longest time ever after their passing. My moms panicked features and the screaming voices and the crackling of fire as everything around our pack house was in flames were forever burnt in my mind. Therapy helped me with the trauma. and everyone we knew was kind enough to help take care of us. But nothing could have replaced mommy and daddy. We were orphans now and I did my best to make Rena feel that emptiness even a bit less.
I had not had any of these nightmares in ages but tonight I strangely had the same one that haunted me throughout my childhood. Maybe some of the disturbing things I read in the book earlier were a factor.
I finally remember that Leander was next to me. So, I turn my attention back to him. I notice that he was barely clothed so I avert my eyes to his face. His black orbs immediately connect with mine. He had a strange expression. And I dreaded the fact that he witnessed my nightmare. Out of all the nights, he decided to come back to the room on this one. He will not let it drop now.
“Do you want some water?” he asks and I nod.
He gets up and heads towards the small table near the couch. It had a bottle of water I was drinking from earlier on it. He was dress in nothing but his boxers and I try not to drool over his naked, toned back and legs. I avert my gaze. I was not in a state that allows me to think of how godlike my mate was.
He hands me the bottle and I take a large gulp, relishing on the refreshing feeling of the cold water. “Better now?” he asks sitting on the edge of the bed right in front of me.
“Yes, much better. Thank you.” I reply.
“You want to talk about it?” He demands and I can tell he will not be taking no for an answer. “You will not let it go even if I said no would you?” I sigh out.
“Nope.” he replies.
“I had a nightmare.” I simply say.
“No shit Sherlock. That much was obvious. Do not act dumb. Answer me properly.” He orders. But his tone was softer than his usual grumpiness. He was probably a bit considerate of my current state and I appreciated that. He was sort of offering me and olive branch and I needed to show some good initiative as well.
“It was about my childhood. The night my parents passed away. I often had it when I was young but it has been a while since I have had one.” I choke out. “Your parents were killeed during an attack, right?” He asks. And I am not surprised he already knew that. He recieved my file from alpha Luke after all. “Yeah. They were pack warriors. The attack had many casualties. My parents were one of them.” I reply fighting off the tears.
“Your father was a ver strong warrior. I heard a lot about him when I was young.” He says and I choke out even more with tears. My father was indeed strong. But back at home, he was the sweetest father any girl could ask for. he would let me paint his nails and have tea parties with my dolls.
“The security was very tight in your pack when I visited for the gala. How come you were not prepared for suck an attack? I presume the casualties would have been limited.” He inquires.
“The security measures have always been the same. I was curious too. So, I asked alpha Luke plenty of questions and he was kind enough to answer me. The safety protocols have always been the same. The night of the attack was no exception. But there was a lot of rogues. At least three hundred of them. But they were not detected. Alpha Luke said that they were not sensed when they crossed the borders. The rogues were discovered when they met the first patrol of guards. They were already half way across the pack forest by that time. There was no time to put up a plan. It was a full blown war from there. Most people did not know what was coming to them before they died.” I say in one breath. Hopefully covering all the angles so he won’t ask anything further.
I saw a look of surprise cross his features for a split second before he skillfully masked it away.
“Try to get some sleep, Morena.” He says before getting up and heading towards the closet. He comes out a few minutes later fully dressed. “I will come get you in the morning.” He says before leaving me there.
