Leander’s P O VShe was a distraction. She was a heavenly creature made just to distract me. I could not do anything the whole time she was here. I was staring blankly at the the papers and my computer screen pretending to focus on work. But who was I kidding? All I thought about was how much I wanted to have her right there on the couch. Her intoxicating smell was alll over my office suffocating me. And I had to look into the fact that she had no training whatsoever. No werewofl was so weak that they could not keep up with even a bit of training. That was weird as fuck. We are built diffrent. And the sudden interest in witches was also quite eerie.
I needed to find some sort of balance between seeing her and my work. Clearly bringing her here or anywhere around me while I work is futile and a huge waste of time. A waste of time I can not afford at the moment with all that has been going on in the pack lately. The word about me finding my mate has spread like a wildfire. More and more pack members are asking to see her. And I know for a fact that not all of them are just eager to see their supposed luna. Most of my pack still carried my father’s ideals even though it has been years since the mother fucker died. They also think that I am not supposed to have a mate. I was the devil’s incarnation and I am meant to be forever lonely. Not that I disagree with them. I know that my wolf was delusional thinking that Morena was our mate and I needed to find time to talk with him and sort this out. I have worked so hard and for years to finally establish peace in my pack after the mess my jerk of a father has left behind.
I was almost finished with my paperwork a few hours and Asolf was practically jumping from the excitement of finally getting to spend time with Morena when Asmund asks for permission to come in through the mind link. It was strange of him to come at this time. He was usually punctual. He would come at hours we are supposed to be working.
He bows a little as he comes in and then looks me straight in the eyes. I get up immediately preapring to go with him. He did not need to explain for me to know there was something wrong. I knew that look. Something was really wrong.
“What is it?” I ask as I leave my office with him fast on my trail.
“Two bodies of what seems to be rogue wolves have been found right across our borders.” He explains. “When did this happen?” I demand feeling the rage bubble inside me.
“The bodies have just been discovered. But it could not have happened long ago. The borders are toured every hour.” He replies. “Who’s there at the scene?” I inquire. I know he would not let something like this be supervised by just some guards.
“I left Asher at the borders before coming to get you.”
The rest of the way is traveled in silence as I can feel Asmund anger rise with each passing second. This was not a normal accident. Someone was provoking us, sending us signs. Nothing good could ever come out of this. And Asmund knew it as well.
We arrive at the scene and I spot Asher talking to some if the guards. He sees me and dismisses them as he heads towards us. “What do we know?” I immediately ask.
“Not much. The bodies are unidentified. Their fingerprints were not in the database we have. But it was not a normal rogue accident that is for sure.” He expalains.
“What makes you say that?” I inquire.
“There is no sign of fighting on their bodies. Nothing shows that they were in an altercation before dying. In fact, their bodies are clear from any injury except for the traces of silver handcuffs in their wrists and the wound that killed them of course.” He says.
“How were they killed?” I demand.
“They were slaughtered to death. With a very sharp knife in fact. It was a clean cut. And the fact that one body is male and the other is female further assures my theory.” He says. I knew he would have something figured out. My brother was smart. Too smart for my liking sometimes. But in times like this, a quality like that really came in handy.
“Enlighten me, Asher.” I sarcastically say. He was taking forever to get to the juicy part.
“They were scape goats. Someone is sending us a sign. They were kept hostage and then they were thrown here dead with no sign of torture but a clean cut in their necks. The person behind this is a mastermind. The bodies were tossed in here unnoticed. No strange presence was perceived until the bodies were discovered. This is not some random rogue activity. This is way bigger than that.” he clarifies and I know nothing more should be discussed with the presence of the guards.
“Get rid of the bodies. Double the patrols or triple them. I do not care. I want every fucking iinch of the borders covered all the the time. None of this gets out. If I hear anyone that is not present here speaking of this accident, the person who told them will deal with dire consequences. And I all of you know I do not joke around.” I say to the guards and they all bow down before I turn to Asher and Asmund and sign for them to follow me back to the pack house. We had a lot to talk about. The safety of the pack was at risk. And I had a strange conviction that this accident was related to Morena’s arrival here. It was a true that we had rogue activity around the pack borders before but nothing was like this one. This incident was on a whole other caliber and it was not to be taken lightly. Here to another sleepless night or two.
