Love after Divorce

78: Emily Narrates

Ch. 78 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

Emily narrates:

When Mason tells me the last thing that happened, my pressure became very angry, how can all the happiness be gone in seconds? That damn woman must be up to something, I don't believe her at all.

I must have a conversation with Ethan, I feel he is the only one who thinks like me about that broad. He is the one who can be my ally to unmask that woman.

I didn't sleep at all the night of so much thinking, the news has me very bad. Now I understand why my beautiful girl went on a trip, it was the only thing she could do, what was the point of staying here and watching her live the life she was supposed to have with my son.

My husband is happy to be a grandfather, of course he doesn't know that interested harpy.

After talking to Sarah, I see the doubt in Ethan's eyes, I know him I think better than his parents. When we are alone, I look at him and tell him.

"What's got you so worried? You can't fool me," I say, smiling.

"Does vomiting not harm her health? I mean, I'm concerned that she'll have an empty stomach all morning," I explain nervously.

"What do you plan to do about it?" she asks, smiling.

"You know me so well that you already know my next steps. I'm looking for specialist doctors. I came across the one who treats Peyton, but I don't trust that doctor," she says, and that triggers a lightbulb moment in my head with an idea.

"Can you tell me who it is? I don't believe her claim that she's in poor health. Something tells me she's lying to us. Obviously, I didn't say anything to Mason. I don't want to argue with him anymore. Last night was enough," I confess, sighing.

"I'll give you, his name. He appears in the list of specialist doctors. Could you recommend a good one for me?" Ethan asks.

"Of course, I'll arrange the appointment for you and take care of everything. Now, changing the subject, what do you plan to do about this pregnancy? I know you're the only one who agrees with me that there's something she's hiding," I say directly and sincerely.

"The truth is, I feel like something doesn't add up. I've never believed in that woman. I feel like she's fake and opportunistic," he says, and I nod.

"I completely agree with you. Regarding the investigation, tell me, what do you plan to do? You have my full support," I say, watching as he takes out a folder from a drawer.

"I've been following her, or rather, I had her followed and investigated. Nothing interesting came up, well, except that she doesn't come from a wealthy family. During the time she was away studying, she lived a wildlife, going out and having her adventures. I haven't told Mason about it because he'll forgive her due to the pregnancy. I'm also waiting for some evidence that she had or has something with the person who attended the dinner you organized. I have a question about that day: did you invite her or him? I never found out. Well, now she's living in a new house that Mason bought for her, so she can be comfortable and on bed rest. Additionally, she has a nurse who takes care of her 24/7. I think if we can talk to that nurse, we might learn more details about her," he says nervously.

"Well, I'm glad we're on the same page. I think I'll tell Mason that I'm going to visit her. It's one thing for him not to be able to go to avoid arousing suspicion due to the marriage, but it's another thing for me not to be able to see her. I'll try to talk to the nurse alone, ask her questions, or even give her money to keep me informed of what she does or says," I say, smiling at Ethan.

"That's a good idea. I'll leave that in your hands. I'll wait for the photos and the report from the neighbor who had a relationship with her. We can talk when we have more information on the matter," Ethan says, looking at his office door. He must need to get back to work.

"Alright, sounds good. Congratulations again on the baby. I'll take care of scheduling the appointment with the specialist so you can go as soon as possible and ease your worries. I'm sure you'll have more arguments with Sarah than before. We become unbearable when we're pregnant. Our moods change in the blink of an eye," I say, laughing.

I turn around and see my son looking at us, and his gaze scares me. I hope he only overheard the last part and not our plans. Having him against us would be difficult.

"Hey, buddy, welcome," Ethan says, standing up from his seat.

"I'm actually leaving. I just came to answer some questions for Ethan regarding the pregnancy. Don't smother Sarah too much. It'll only make her increasingly angry," I say to my son, and I head towards the exit.

"It's great, Mom, that a baby brings you so much joy. I wish mine made you feel the same way," my son says, hurt.

"You know that every baby is welcomed. I just have to come to terms with the fact that the mother of that baby won't be someone I want in the family," I kiss his cheek and leave the office.

I walk away without looking back because I know seeing the expression on my son's face will hurt me even more. I don't want him to feel so sad, but I can't help but not want that woman in our lives.

I head home, where I focus on scheduling the medical appointment for Sarah. She needs to see the doctor as soon as possible. With the name Ethan gave me, I search for the clinic where this specialist, who sees the mother of my grandchild, works.

I schedule an appointment and when I see him, I am surprised by how attractive he is, besides, he is young, well for me he is. My medical appointment is scheduled for next week, I organize my agenda so that I have everything free that day. Because yes, I have a lot of things to do with the foundations I run in order and I may not get paid, but I am happy helping others. My gratification is to see what I can do to make a family happy that does not have enough means.
