Narrated by Paige:
After a few hours, Riley appears at Sarah's house and is surprised to see me, as I hadn't told her that I was here.
After the usual greetings, the time comes to tell her what's going on. I feel nervous because I don't know how she'll react, but one thing I'm sure of is that she'll offer her support.
"I have something to tell you, and honestly, it's a surprise that I'm still processing. But before I do, I want you not to tell anyone, and by anyone, I mean Mason and Ethan." She looks at me with a furrowed brow, confused by my words.
"Now I'm getting worried," she says, looking at me intently, waiting for the news.
"I'm pregnant with Mason's child. I found out a few days ago, which is why I traveled here to tell you in person. But I insist, I don't want Mason to find out. I want to have a peaceful and calm pregnancy, and that won't happen if he knows. Besides, he has his own life and family now, and I don't want to be an obstacle to his happiness with Peyton," I tell her sincerely.
"I don't think that's the right decision. You don't know how his life has been lately. Maybe you should talk to him," she says, sounding distressed.
Wait a minute, since when does she defend Mason? I sense that there's something she's not telling me, but I don't want to know. I don't want to know anything about my ex-husband, and I prefer to remain ignorant when it comes to Mason and his life.
"I would be very happy to see you with him. You're my friend, and I can tell you that you won't easily find a better man than Lucas. I think they're an endangered species," Tabatha says, shrugging as if it were an insignificant comment.
My friend Sarah and I laugh at what we hear, and Tabatha lets us know that we can go and eat. We head to the kitchen to see what Tabatha has prepared, and the aroma of the food makes my stomach growl, causing my Brazilian friend to give me a disapproving look. She hates when her stomach growls due to hunger, saying that the baby will never go hungry.
Sarah and I eat everything that Tabatha has prepared without even speaking. Everything is delicious, and we love it. Sarah even moans in pleasure while eating this exquisite meal prepared by Tabatha.
After finishing our meal, Sarah suggests calling Riley again, as they haven't been seeing each other as much as before. That's strange.
"Maybe she has a boyfriend or something she's not telling us," Sarah says.
"Yes, it's strange that she's not answering and that you don't see her as often. I'll call her again to see if she answers," I say, feeling doubtful and pensive at the same time.
"And a genius who ordered it for you. You might regret it once you get to know her better," says my "best friend."
"Thanks for that," I say, offended from behind.
"Don't act offended, you know I'm right. The poor guy will have to endure your mood swings even more now that you're pregnant. I can tell you from experience, my husband is at his wits' end with my mood swings," Sarah tells me, laughing as she probably recalls the things, she asks poor Ethan to do.
"I have a lot of patience, so don't worry about that. And as for getting to know her, I think I do to some extent. I wouldn't have been interested without getting to know her, right?" Lucas asks Sarah.
"Now, this is a good guy for you. You have my support to win her over. You're lucky, not everyone has that," Sarah says, crossing her arms.
"Since when do you know my suitors well enough to give your support or not? Lucas don't pay attention to her. The hormones have made her a bit crazy, well, crazier than usual," I say, blushing and feeling embarrassed by Sarah's antics.
"I like her personality, and if she says she supports me, I think we'll get along great," Lucas responds, smiling and winking at Sarah.
I discreetly look at Riley, and she has an expression that I don't like at all—she seems annoyed with Lucas, even though he hasn't done anything wrong. The poor guy is an absolute sweetheart and has supported me through everything. He deserves only good things.
After that, Sarah tells Lucas that she supports him in winning me over, and Lucas takes it to heart. He even offers to travel here and meet Riley in person, and my friend says she would be delighted. Thankfully, she tells him that another time would be better, although I can already see him capable of coming. On one hand, I admit that I feel like I miss him, but not in a romantic way—it's more like missing a brother or something. I miss him making me laugh and helping me forget all my problems. When I'm with Lucas, it's all about nice things, and that's good for me, or rather, it's good for both of us.
We spend the afternoon laughing, although I still sense something strange from Riley. I don't ask her about it to avoid ruining the cheerful girls' time we're having.
