Love after Divorce

68, did not work.

Ch. 68 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

P.O.V Mason:

I'm in shock, how is she pregnant? I mean, I know how she got pregnant, but she was taking precautions. That's what doesn't add up.

"I'm really sorry," she says, distressed.

"Don't apologize, I don't know what to say. I mean, this news really caught me off guard," I nervously comment.

"I know and I understand. That's why I'm telling you that it's not necessary for you to stay by our side. You're in love with another woman, and you won't see me again in your life," she responds, crying.

I can't bear to see her cry. I don't want to be separated from my child's life. I've always wanted to be a father. On the other hand, my mother will go crazy when she finds out, and my father will tell me that I have to take responsibility for my actions and take care of Peyton and the baby. I can imagine what lies ahead.

"You don't have to leave. I want to be in the baby's life if you'll allow me. Of course," I nervously say.

"I truly prefer to distance myself from you than to see you without being able to be with you. It would hurt me more to have you close yet far away and never see you again. I hope you understand that my emotional state affects the baby, which is why I think it's best for me to leave and not see you again," she insists.

I sigh in frustration. I don't want her to go. If she does, I won't know anything about my son or daughter, and I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. It would weigh on my conscience, and my guilt would haunt me.

“I understand your position, but give me some time, and I'll buy you a house so you can live without worries. We can also see what happens in the future” I propose.

“I would have to think about it” she says, wiping her tears.

“Take all the time you need” I say, holding her hand.

I say goodbye, and she hands me the envelope with the pregnancy items. I get into my car, not knowing where to go. I don't want to go home. I need to think about everything I've learned today.

It's heavy news, just the thought of how Paige will take it terrifies me. She's too good, and if I tell her about the pregnancy, she'll step aside so that the child can grow up in a united family. Especially since she knows I was in love with Peyton.

Finally, after spending a long time in my car, I go to my parents' place, where Paige is. When I arrive, I see my wife playing with Simba. The sight makes me smile. My beautiful and beloved wife is the best in the world. She treats Simba like a true son, and that's one of the things that made me fall in love with her without even realizing it.

I bring her along, and we all go home. Our little dog is happy to see us, and that night, he sleeps with us in bed. I allowed it for the time he was apart from us.

The next day, I have to go to work, and Paige goes to her company to check on things.

I arrive at my company and sigh as I sit in my chair. I open the first drawer where I kept the envelope with the pregnancy test results. I haven't heard anything from Peyton, and it's weighing on my mind. I feel like a terrible person for not telling Paige about this news, but I don't want to lose what we're building, at least not until I know Peyton's decision regarding leaving or staying.

We only have one month left of our marriage, these weeks to define our relationship, and for me to resolve the matter with Peyton.

Paige narrates:

Getting back into the routine I was afraid of Mason's reaction to seeing Peyton. I was hoping that yesterday when he came back from seeing her, he would tell me how it went, but he didn't comment. On the contrary, he came back more thoughtful, and I haven't wanted to ask him what happened, I don't want to burden him.

Today I am in my company seeing how I am leaving while I was gone and I have nothing to say about the person left in charge, I even offer him a definite job at my side.

Emily is happy with the news I gave her about the opportunity we are giving each other, although I told her that we are just seeing how it works, we will not know what can happen.

What I implore her most is not to get her hopes up yet, I need to know that I'm ending any kind of relationship with her, I'm not going to be her second table. I am not going to allow that.

I do not understand, and I have not stopped thinking about the reason for not telling me how I am with her if I take it well or badly. She didn't say anything and that has me worried. If everything turned out well why not tell me. I feel that there is something she is not telling me.

I feel anxious, it's like a sixth sense telling me that I'm missing information, which has me worried.

I spend the day at the office, I catch up with work, my secretary tells me I have a visitor. I ask who it is, and she tells me it's Peyton. That's strange to me, because she's coming to see me, we have nothing to talk about. In any case, I have nothing to hide, so I allow her into my office.

“Good morning," she says, smiling.

“Good morning. What brings you here?" I ask, serious.

“I've come to give you a gift that I'm sure you haven't seen, and I think it's prudent that you know what's happening between me and Mason," she says, handing me an envelope.

“I don't understand why this is necessary," I respond, confused.

“When you read everything inside, you'll understand why I came," she replies, winking at me.

She turns around and leaves, just as she arrived. I furrow my brow at her attitude, holding the large envelope she handed me in my hands, feeling curious to know what's inside.

I open the envelope, sitting down. I take out the first page and read what it says. I'm grateful that I'm sitting, or I would have fallen from shock. Pregnant! Peyton is pregnant with Mason's child!

How could I be so foolish and not realize that something like this could happen? I was a fool. The day we went on the trip, he went to say goodbye to her. Most likely, that's when she became pregnant, or even before. Damn it, how could I be so stupid?

I don't continue to take out what the envelope contains. There's no point. I already know the news that she probably told Mason yesterday. That's why her attitude, her silence, and her constant pensiveness make sense now.

I need to think carefully about the steps to take from here on. I can't let that baby grow up without its father. Besides, he was in love with her. Surely, with some time together, love will bloom again. The best thing I can do is keep my distance during the remaining time we have together. I might even have a conversation with Mason and finish what we started on the trip.

Yes, that's definitely the best I can do. There's only a month left, and I'll be able to make my life away from Mason, as well as he'll be able to make his family with her and his son on the way.
