Love after Divorce

76: Ethan's Version

Ch. 76 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

Ethan narrates:

I keep thinking something doesn't add up with that pregnancy story. I feel like that woman is hiding something, I don't trust her. It can't be that much of a coincidence that just when my friend was going to break up with her, she turns out to be pregnant.

Sarah doesn't know her, and I prefer it that way, right now my beautiful wife can't be having unpleasantness with our baby.

Mason is a walking dead man, it's like his heart went out to Paige, just like it did with Simba. It hurts and hurts me to see that, at such a happy time in my life, my best friend is so sad.

My wife who knows me perfectly well as we are on our way to the company says to me.

Mason is a walking dead man, it's like his heart went out to Paige, just like it did with Simba. It hurts and hurts me to see that, at such a happy time in my life, my best friend is so sad.

My wife who knows me perfectly well as we are on our way to the company says to me.

"Love, don't go into detective mode, you know me too well, and you're capable of uncovering the deepest secrets of that woman," she says, looking at me seriously.

"My love, you know me well, so don't waste your time asking me something I can't do. My instinct tells me we can't trust that woman, and I don't think I'm the only one who feels that way," I clarify to my sweetheart.

"Just be careful, I don't want you to have problems with Mason because of that woman," she says, worried.

"Hey, honey, don't worry, everything will be fine. Just relax, you need to stay calm now, and we have to start monitoring your pregnancy. And of course, I'll be there for all the check-ups. You won't be able to get rid of me," I say, kissing her hand.

She laughs at my words, and we head down to work. As we enter the company, I stop her and say,

"If you ever feel anything, no matter how small, call me. We could even move your office to mine. I have plenty of space, and that way, I'll always be there for you," I tell her. My wife looks at me with killer eyes.

"Forget about that idea. I need my space, and as long as I can see the tip of my toes, I'll come to work. Just like you tell me not to ask you for impossible things, don't do the same. You'll only stress me out more," she says, kissing my cheek and heading towards the elevator.

"Is it safe to take the elevator? I don't want anyone else to get on when you do, to avoid exceeding the maximum weight limit," I say, looking at everyone who wants to get on with her.

"I agree with you. So, you can take the next elevator," she says, closing the doors and giving me an annoyed look.

What did I do wrong? I just want her to be safe. I don't understand why she's upset with me. I sigh and hear a girl saying, "She's overreacting." I don't understand what she's referring to, so I turn to see who spoke.

"Who said that?" I ask.

"It was me, sir," says a girl with a strange accent.

"Very well, come with me to my office," I say, serious.

We walk in complete silence. When we arrive, she follows me inside and sits down, waiting for me to tell her what I have planned.

"You're quite young to work here. What do you do in the company?" I ask curiously. She looks like she's around 20 years old.

"What do you need from me?" she asks, annoyed.

"Explain to me what happen, means," I demand, serious.

"In my country, it means someone is overreacting, and I'm right. I don't understand why you're overprotecting Mrs. Sarah," she says, confused.

"She's pregnant, that's why I don't want anything to happen to her, no stress, no anger. Tell me what department you work in," I insist, crossing my arms.

"I'm just in charge of cleaning. I know Miss Sarah because she's very kind, and I'm studying marketing. She has helped me with some university assignments. If you need, I can keep a close eye on her. It's not a problem for me," the girl tells me.

"Where are you from?" I ask curiously.

"I came from Chile a few years ago. That's why people always ask about my accent," she responds, smiling.

"Very well, you can be my wife's assistant. That way, you can take care of her and help with her work. I don't want her working too much or skipping meals. No stress. And if you notice anything strange about her, let me know," I say, looking at her attentively.

"Understood, no problem for me. On the contrary, it's doing me a favor. Well, I'll go now. It's great to have Mrs. Sarah as my boss," she says, celebrating with her hands as she leaves my office.

I shake my head and laugh. This girl will be good for Sarah. She's been feeling down since Paige left, and this girl's joyfulness will keep her smiling.

I'm surprised by a visit I receive before lunch. My secretary informs me that Emily is looking for me. I greet her and she sits down, looking at me with sadness.

"I don't understand, really, I don't get it. What do you mean Paige left? Mason hasn't explained the situation properly to me, and I didn't want to bother Sarah. You're my son's best friend, and you need to be informed about everything," she says, placing her bag on the seat next to her.

"I'm being put in a difficult situation because there are things, I can't tell you. It's necessary for Mason to do it," I respond nervously.

"The problem is my son doesn't say anything. He just mentioned that he'll come over for dinner tonight to discuss the latest news. And something inside me tells me it's not good. That I'll only get angry with whatever he's going to tell me. I'd rather you tell me beforehand so I can prepare myself before seeing my son. Please help me with that," she pleads, distressed.

"You know that I truly care about you, but I can't do something like that. It's not a topic to discuss with anyone. However, since you're here, I would like to ask you something, but it should stay between you and me," I say, sitting up straighter in my seat.

"You can ask me anything. You know you can trust me, even though it hurts that you don't want to tell me what you know," I know her, and she's trying to make me feel guilty, so I'll tell her what I know.

"I heard that you know Peyton, I also have the 'pleasure'," I say, making air quotes with my fingers when I say 'pleasure'.

"Unfortunately, I know her. What do you want to know?" she asks, raising an eyebrow and looking at me.

To be continued...
