Paige's Perspective:
The first thing I do is cry when I see my friend. She looks beautiful with her little swollen belly, and I imagine myself in a few months looking the same. We hug, and I introduce her to Tabatha, who only knew her through video calls. Riley, who she knows from her trip to Brazil, is also there.
We talk and sit in the living room. I'm anxious to tell them the truth, but I want both of my friends to be present.
"I need to tell you something, and I'd like Riley to be here too," I say nervously.
"Oh, you scared me! Call her right away. I won't be able to handle the suspense," my friend says, exaggerating the drama for no reason.
I dial Riley's number, but she doesn't answer. That's strange, but I don't give it much importance. I look at Sarah, who can't contain her anxiety to know what I have to say.
"She's not answering. I know how you are, and I'll tell you on the condition that you don't tell anyone, not even Ethan," I say firmly, pointing my index finger at her.
"I promise, it won't leave my mouth," she says, mimicking the action of closing a zipper over her lips and throwing away the key.
"I'm pregnant," I blurt out.
She stares at me, trying to process what I just told her, and her face shows confusion.
"Pregnant? But... how long? Who's the father?" she asks as her brain processes the information.
"I understand your confusion. Believe me, I was just as shocked when I found out. I'm several weeks along, and it's Mason's baby. But I won't tell him anything, and I don't want you to try to convince me otherwise. He already has his own family, and I can raise this baby on my own. You'll be its aunt, and as for Ethan, I still don't know what I'll tell him. I just won't say that it's his friend's child. I fear that if I tell him, it will affect his new life with Peyton and the family they are building. I'd rather distance myself and not say anything," I say nervously.
"I agree with you. That idiot is about to get married, and I think the best thing you can do is move on with your life without thinking about that stupid guy. Ethan is his best friend, and I don't like keeping secrets from him, but in this case, I will because Mason doesn't deserve to know. He didn't handle things the way he should have, and now he has to face the consequences of his actions," she says, angry with her friend.
- "Well, I don't want to hear about your wedding and your life. I'm glad you support me, and I hope Riley does the same as you. We'll see at the moment when I see Ethan what I'll say to him," I reply, smiling and hugging her. "Thank you for supporting me and being there for me through it all," I say, feeling emotional.
- "Don't be silly, that's what friends are for, and you're not alone. I'll always be with you through thick and thin," she says, laughing with tears in her eyes.
- "What an emotional moment. Now I'm going to cook. Paige needs to eat at regular intervals, and I'm in charge of monitoring what goes into that mouth," Tabatha says, getting up.
- "Of course, the kitchen is to your left. You can use whatever you want, and if you want to cook more, I'm also hungry," Sarah says, blushing.
- "Needless to say, both of you need to eat well and at regular intervals," my friend says as she leaves the room.
When we are alone, my friend looks at me and says,
"She's a good girl, and from what I can tell, she's too concerned about your health. That puts my mind at ease, knowing that you'll be with someone who will take care of you just as much, if not more, than I do," she says, smiling.
"Yes, I'm lucky with the people who are with me in Brazil. They don't leave me alone, and there's even a guy named Lucas who's interested in me since I met him," I say, blushing.
"Why wasn't I aware of this?" she asks, offended.
"I didn't want to say anything. He's a handsome guy with good intentions. He has suffered in the past, and I've always made it clear that I can't reciprocate what he feels for me. I can only see him as a friend," I confess sincerely.
"Bad, very bad. You can't close the door to a new love, especially when you tell me he's a good guy. Although I think I'll start interrogating Tabatha. Does she know him?" she asks curiously.
"I've known him for years, and I have to say he's the best catch for any girl. I haven't seen him this interested in anyone since his heart was broken in the past. He's in love with Paige, he's told her, and he's even willing to wait as long as necessary for her to see him differently," says my friend Tabatha, entering the room.
"Then I don't understand, Paige. Why don't you give him a chance? I don't want you to be alone, and you might not feel anything for him now, but that doesn't mean you won't see him differently in the future. You need to open your heart to a new love. I'm not saying you should do it now, but you can consider it in the future. He's a good guy, and he's suffered just like you. Don't you think destiny put him in your path to make you happy?" she asks, looking at me attentively.
-"I don't deny that I could give him a chance. His gestures and concern for me make me feel like he's earning a little piece of my heart. He's always been very good to me. The pregnancy excited him a lot, and he offered me his unconditional support," I tell them.
"I would be very happy to see you with him. You're my friend, and I can tell you that you won't easily find a better man than Lucas. I think they're an endangered species," Tabatha says, shrugging as if it were an insignificant comment.
My friend Sarah and I laugh at what we hear, and Tabatha lets us know that we can go and eat. We head to the kitchen to see what Tabatha has prepared, and the aroma of the food makes my stomach growl, causing my Brazilian friend to give me a disapproving look. She hates when her stomach growls due to hunger, saying that the baby will never go hungry.
Sarah and I eat everything that Tabatha has prepared without even speaking. Everything is delicious, and we love it. Sarah even moans in pleasure while eating this exquisite meal prepared by Tabatha.
After finishing our meal, Sarah suggests calling Riley again, as they haven't been seeing each other as much as before. That's strange.
"Maybe she has a boyfriend or something she's not telling us," Sarah says.
"Yes, it's strange that she's not answering and that you don't see her as often. I'll call her again to see if she answers," I say, feeling doubtful and pensive at the same time.
