Love after Divorce

96: Doubts and Anguish

Ch. 96 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

Narrated by Emily:

The long-awaited moment has arrived. I don't have any evidence, but I know the truth. A truth that no one knows, and I won't reveal it until I have the support for what I have to say.

As for the wedding, well, that's something I've been planning for a few days. However, not everything is as it seems. I have been in contact with many people, and several individuals are helping me with this. I just hope to gather the evidence at the right time and that everything turns out well.

I have been visiting the handsome doctor more frequently and have managed to earn his trust regarding some secrets he holds. For example, he disclosed that he can assist me if I ever need or want to feign an illness. That reminded me of when my son and Paige returned from their trip, they were happy and determined to give their relationship a chance. But when Mason saw this woman, everything changed. After that, I recall she began experiencing discomfort and had to be on complete bed rest during the first few weeks.

I believe everything is falling into place. What do I mean by this? That I never believed in anything that girl portrays. Life has given me a lot of experience in getting to know people, and in this social circle, one encounters all sorts of individuals. Peyton is not good, not at all.

She thinks I have accepted her because that's what I made her believe in recent weeks. However, it's all a lie. Yes, you read that correctly, it's all fake. It's true that I mentioned the surprise wedding to Mason, but there's an explanation that my son logically won't know.

If Peyton thinks she can manipulate me like she does with my son, she is gravely mistaken. I won't fall into her web of lies. It pains me to lie to my son, especially when telling him what I know would immediately put an end to her. The problem is, I don't have any evidence, and I'm certain that even if the doctor trusts me, he won't jeopardize his work for my sake. I haven't found his weak spot yet, which is why I haven't directly threatened or asked about Peyton. Sometimes it may seem like time is being wasted, but that's not always the case.

I am a woman who knows when to play her cards, and it's not the right time yet. All I can tell you is that Peyton won't achieve what she's planning I can guarantee that as surely as my name is Emily.

I have also been in communication with Riley. I am aware that they shared a building when that woman was living in the apartment my son bought under her name. It doesn't bother me that she keeps that place; she will need it when everything is revealed.

I know about the call Riley made and what she will say. It's something we planned together, and it will only sow doubt in Mason's mind.

You may wonder if I'm thinking about the grandchild she carries in her womb, and the truth is, I am. That baby is not to blame for the mother he has, although I have some doubts about the timing of the pregnancy. I believe she might be lying about it, and I'm going to investigate. That kind of woman is capable of making Mason believe that the child is his when it's not. That's the truth I'm searching for, whether he's really my grandchild, because I have doubts about that.

Paige narrates.

I'm at the doctor's office, the doctor who will see me is someone Tabatha trusts, and she managed to get me the appointment. She insisted on accompanying me, and here we are, waiting for my name to be called.

They call me into the consultation room.

"Good morning, tell me what brings you here," the doctor says, looking at me.

"I've been experiencing a lot of headaches and fatigue. The truth is, I've had some difficult days, weeks, and months, and it might be due to stress," I say nervously.

"Well, the first thing we need to do is check your blood pressure and ask if you have any medical conditions like high cholesterol, blood pressure problems, or anything of the sort," he says as he puts the blood pressure cuff on my arm.

"No, no health problems," I respond.

"Alright, your blood pressure looks fine. The best thing we can do is take some blood samples to check for anemia or anything else. Any possibility of pregnancy?" he asks, and I think my face must show terror based on my friend's expression.

"No, I've had my regular menstruation, and there has been no sexual activity in the past two months," I answer, blushing.

"Alright, I'll include that test in the order just in case," he says, jotting down the exam.

"I don't think it's necessary. I can't be pregnant. It's probably just anemia or something," I reply, looking at my friend who has a huge smile on her face.

"We'll see what the results say when they're ready. For now, I'll prescribe a medication for your headache to be taken every eight hours. Depending on the exam results, we'll discuss the treatment to use," he hands me the prescription and I stand up to leave.

"Okay, I'll go to the laboratory to check if I need to fast for the exams. Depending on that, I'll take them today or tomorrow. Thank you. When I have the results, I'll let the secretary know so she can schedule another appointment for me," I say, shaking his hand.

"You don't have to schedule an appointment, just come and bring the results. I don't charge for reviewing exams separately because I don't consider it appropriate. Bring them in, and we'll discuss the next steps," the doctor explains, extending his hand to respond to mine.

My friend does the same as me and says goodbye. Once we're outside the consultation room, I talk to the secretary to get information on where to get the blood tests done. I'm waiting for Tabatha to say something; she has been unusually quiet, which is unusual for her.

When the secretary gives me the information about where to get the tests done, we head straight to that place. While my friend is driving, out of nowhere, she asks, "What would happen if you're pregnant? Have you thought about that?"

"That's not possible. I don't have any missed periods or symptoms of pregnancy. Even if it were true, I would continue with my life. I won't tell Mason anything; he already has enough with the family he has formed with that woman. I wouldn't be the first or the last single mother," I reply, shrugging it off because I'm sure that's not the case.

I'm not pregnant; I can assure you of that. I've had my normal menstrual cycle, no vomiting or nausea. It definitely can't be true. The best thing to do is to get the tests done as soon as possible to find out what's happening to me. Then we can think about what to do next.
