Love after Divorce

92: Paige

Ch. 92 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

Paige narrates.

I find myself at Sarah's house, eating while I look at her, annoyed that she left me alone with Mason. Although she insists that she didn't do it with bad intentions, she just remembered that she had things to do, as if I were foolish.

I don't plan on going back to the office. Luckily, Mason explained the most important things to me, and now I understand and can handle all the company matters. Now I'm contemplating whether it would be a good idea to run things from here or from there.

The good thing about being the owner is that I can come in only for important matters and manage the company from Brazil or the other option is to stay here and handle everything from here.

I could do it, but it's not the best option, at least not for now. My heart is still healing, and I can't just stay, and watch Mason be happy and become a father with that woman.

The next day...

A new day begins, and my lawyer informs me that she is returning home today. It surprises me because I thought she would stay at least until everything is finished and confirmed. I don't know, it feels strange to see her leave and not go with her.

My friend Riley notifies me that she needs to talk to me, and we arrange to meet at a café she has been frequenting lately.

The moment to meet arrives, and when I arrive at the café, I find her looking very serious. That surprises me.

“dear, are you okay?" I ask, concerned.

"Well, no. I need to talk to someone about this, and you're the right person. I've been seeing and talking to Peyton, and I understand why you feel betrayed by this. But it's not what you think. I didn't befriend her to be her friend, quite the opposite. It was to find out things that no one else knows. It was challenging to earn a bit of her trust, and she might not have told me everything. However, what she did tell me is quite disappointing," she says nervously.

"Okay, you're scaring me. Tell me what you found out, and I can't believe you would betray me like that," I say, trying to calm her down.

"You relieve me by saying that. Well, she told me about a neighbor who is quite close to her. He has tried on several occasions to convince her to be with him, but she refuses because she says no man will be better than Mason for her. I don't believe she loves him sincerely. The way she talks about him, her expressions about her future husband, makes me think that she's only interested in the financial security Mason can offer her. Maybe I'm wrong, but she doesn't love anyone beyond what material things they can provide. It's the most important thing for her, and in this case, despite Mason being attractive and young, all she sees is money, lots of money in him. I don't have any proof to back up what I'm saying to tell Mason. It's just what I have learned about Peyton," she says nervously.

"I don't doubt what you're telling me, but there's no need for you to continue investigating that woman. Honestly, I don't want, or rather, I don't plan on getting back with Mason if he separates from her. Firstly, because no matter what, they have or will have a child that will always keep them connected, and I don't want to be near that woman for the rest of my life. Also, in Brazil, I might have met a guy who is very nice, and maybe with time, I'll give him a chance for us to be together. He deserves it because, in the short time I've been talking to him, he has been very kind and attentive to me. Lucas has earned the possibility of being more than just a friend, as I know he wants," I confide in Riley.

"I understand. I won't investigate further, and you can rest assured that nobody will know what I told you, not even Sarah. She's too hormonal to keep quiet about what I found out," she says, smiling.

"Well, now help me think about what I should do. I plan on leaving, but I missed you both so much, and I don't want to leave right away. My lawyer has already left, and I told her I would stay a few more days. I don't want to stay for too long because the farewell will be even harder. I was thinking of leaving and coming back in a few months. I have to travel constantly for the company, and also for the birth of my future nephew," I say, excited at the thought of the baby.

"Of course, we will both be present for that birth, and I can't wait to find out what it is. I was thinking of organizing a baby shower with a gender reveal, so that the parents can find out on that day. I believe with your help; we can create something beautiful for our friends. Are you on board?" she asks.

"Absolutely, I love the idea. If I ever have children, I want to find out the baby's gender in a similar way. How exciting!" I say, clapping my hands with excitement.

"Well, then it's best for you to come back in about two months, and we can do the gender reveal then. By that time, enough time will have passed, and you can bring Lucas along. That way, your now ex-husband will be dying of jealousy because nobody can ignore the love he feels and has always felt for you, even if you refuse to accept it," she insists with her theory.

"Let's not talk about it anymore. Now let's go buy something for Sarah. I'm feeling overly sensitive, and I think a lot about that baby. I feel like buying so many things for him/her, then I remember it's not my child, and the feeling fades," I say, laughing and almost crying.

"Imagine if you're pregnant too, that would be epic, my friend. Imagine being pregnant with your ex-husband's child, unless it's Lucas'," she says, raising her eyebrows.

"You're crazy. I'm not pregnant with my ex or Lucas. I've even had my normal menstrual cycle these past months," I reply, confident in what I'm saying.

"I was just kidding, my friend. Let's go buy something for our niece or nephew," she says, getting up from her chair.

We leave the café and head straight to the mall to buy many things that were not yet necessary for the baby.
