Love after Divorce

83: Peyton.

Ch. 83 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

Mason narrates:

I am on my way to Peyton's house, I say her house, because it is in her name, I consider it somewhat appropriate because she is the mother of my child. It's been two weeks since she's been on bed rest and today, she finally has control and I'll be able to see my son or daughter.

On the other hand, I still haven't heard from Paige, the anguish is killing me, I want to see her, even if it's just for pictures. I don't have her phone number and she send Sarah and Ethan pictures of Simba, I think, of her just the same, but my friends only forward me the ones of Simba.

I have been thinking about looking at her social media, which would just be torturing me with seeing her. the best thing is for me to get on with my life. I still live in our house, I sleep in the bed she used to use, on her side of the bed. Every night I smell her scent in the room less and less, but I cling to her as much as I can. She is the woman I have always dreamed of.

Right now, I am on my way to her house, so I can go to the checkup. She is waiting for me ready and beautiful as always, she hasn't lost or gained any weight, at least I think so when I see her after so many days.

"Darling, I missed you so much," he says, embracing me.

"I missed you too. How are you feeling?" I ask, touching his belly.

"I'm good. I think we'll be fine at the doctor's," he replies, smiling.

"Let's go. I'm excited," I say, taking his hand and heading towards the exit of the house.

On the way, he looks at me happily. The excitement of seeing our baby is evident on his face.

"I've been reading about the timing to determine the baby's gender. I haven't asked you about it. Do you want to know the gender? When it's possible, of course," I begin to speak quickly and nervously.

"If you want to, I have no problem with it," he responds, smiling.

"Sorry if I'm talking too much. I'm just really anxious to see the baby. I want time to pass so we can live together and not miss out on anything," I explain, taking his hand and kissing it.

"I feel the same, my love. I'm counting the days. Speaking of that, I wanted to ask you something," he says nervously.

"Tell me," I reply.

"Are we going to live in the same house I'm in now?" he asks, fear in his voice.

"Don't you like it? I thought you did," I respond, confused.

"I like it, and I appreciate it. It's just that when the baby is born, I think it would be better to have a bigger house with more yard space for our child. I thought maybe we could live in the house you're living in now," he says softly, but I still manage to hear what he's saying.

"Live in the same house I had with Paige?" I ask to confirm if I heard correctly or if it was just my imagination.

"Yes, although if it bothers you, we don't have to do it," he answers nervously.

"It doesn't bother me, but my mother was the one who bought that house. I don't know whose name it's under, and because we're married, I might have to sell it and give her half the value when we get divorced," I say thoughtfully.

"You have the means to do that. I like that house, and I think our baby would be very happy in a place like that, unless you have feelings for it and it would affect you to live in that house," he says with a pained voice.

“I sigh and take a deep breath to respond. I don't want him to be sad because everything he feels, our baby feels too. That's what I've read and learned about pregnancies.

"It's not that. Of course, we can live in that house," I reply, smiling softly.

"Thank you, love, for spoiling us. We're both happy about it. I can't wait to move into that huge house," she says excitedly, applauding.

"We have to wait for me to get divorced and sign the purchase and sale agreement for the house," I remind her, also telling myself that it won't be happening tomorrow.

"You can ask her right away if she can sell you her share of the house, so when we finalize the divorce, you'll have the documents ready to purchase her part of the house," she replies, surprising me with all the things she has thought about.

I think she already had this whole thing planned out. I can't blame her; she's right that the house she's living in now compared to the one I'm using is quite different.

"I'll tell Ethan that I mentioned the idea since I don't have any contact with her. Through him and Sarah, we'll handle the divorce proceedings," I explain uncomfortably.

"You make me so happy with simple gestures. Thank you for respecting me and keeping distance between us. That makes me very happy," she says contentedly.

"Yes, everything for you," I comment, sighing.

We arrive at the doctor's office and get out of the car to enter. Obviously, I help her, so she doesn't exert any force.

Upon entering, the receptionist tells us that the doctor is waiting for us in the consultation room. We proceed slowly so Peyton doesn't get tired or anything. I knock on the door, and the doctor opens it.

"Good morning, how are you feeling?" he asks Peyton directly.

"I'm fine. I haven't had any more pain," she says politely.

"That's good, but we can't rule out anything. It's best to take it slow. After checking how the fetus is doing, we'll assess at what level of normalcy you can resume your life, because it won't be at 100%," he comments, pointing to the examination table.

Peyton moves forward and adjusts herself for the doctor to take her blood pressure. After that, he applies gel to her abdomen, and then he takes a device and places it on top. The screen of a computer-like device and a television show everything black.

"Let's see how this baby is doing," he says, smiling.

I look at the screen and see everything black. I don't understand anything. The doctor moves the device over Peyton's belly and rotates it. My gaze alternates between the device and the screen.
