80: Emily with Peyton

Ch. 80 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

Mason narrates:

It's been a few days that I haven't heard from Paige, thanks to Ethan I know she's okay, but that's all my friend tells me.

On the other hand, my mother is still distant with me, that has me sad and worried.

I have been in contact with Peyton every day through video calls and phone calls. Luckily, she has not been in severe pain and the nurse keeps me informed of anything going on with her.

I visit Ethan when I see that my mom was with him, my friend tells me that she went to congratulate them on the baby on the way and that Ethan took the opportunity to ask her for help with the specialist doctor who will be in charge of Sarah's pregnancy checks. It hurts me to see her get so excited about their baby and not mine.

I remember every word he said to me when I told him that Peyton was pregnant, his reaction and his anger when he found out that Paige had gone to another country. I would like her to understand that the baby Peyton is expecting is not to blame for my decisions, my actions, as she is an angel coming to brighten our lives, which is what I have thought.

lately. The only thing certain in all of this is that my son or daughter is going to be very happy and loved in a family that I will form with Peyton when we can legally be together.

I get a call from my mother, which surprises me, since she hardly ever speaks to me.

"Hello, son," she greets coldly.

"Mother, what a joy to talk to you. How are you?" I ask with a smile.

"Well, I wanted to talk to you. I don't think my initial reaction to the pregnancy was the best, and I feel really bad and regretful about it. I've been thinking a lot about this, and I believe the best thing I can do is go see Peyton and see if I can help her in any way while she's on bed rest. That way, I can get to know her better, you know, start building a relationship for the future," she says nervously, and I feel my heart racing as I listen to her.

"Mom, which would make me very happy. She's really on complete bed rest and gets bored because she can't do anything. I'm already eager to go to the doctor's appointment. There are only five days left," I tell her, excited and happy.

"I want to make up for the bad impression we had when we first met. Maybe if I go see her, we can have a conversation and get to know each other better," my mother says, and I reply.

"I'll send you the address so you can go see her, although you could call her. Whatever you decide is fine," I say, nervously.

"Son, send me the address, and I'll visit her. It will be a surprise for her. I'll bring something delicious. I'll tell you how it went later when we get to know each other. I love you, darling," she says, ending the call.

I ponder this change in my mother, and it completely changes my mood. I feel happy and hopeful that everything will work out and that my son will have his grandmother present in his life.

I work all day to distract myself from thinking about how my mother and Peyton are doing. I haven't received any messages from her, which means they must be very busy together.

I find myself in front of the door of where my future grandson's mother lives. Out of anger, I refrain from ringing the doorbell. I need to set aside the resentment I have towards this woman; it's not good for the baby to fight with her, especially not now.

I knock on the door and wait for the nurse to open it. She looks surprised to see me, but it's not a pleasant surprise.

"Excuse me, who are you?" she nervously asks.

"Good morning, I'm Mason's mother. I've come to visit Peyton," I say, annoyed that I have to stay at the door.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I'll let Miss Peyton know you're here," she says, closing the door in my face.

That leaves me in shock. She didn't even let me inside to wait. It's disrespectful to leave me standing outside like this. Now I can't hide the anger I feel about this situation. I'll only wait for two more minutes. If she doesn't open the door, I'm leaving, and that woman can forget about forming a relationship with me. She'll only be the mother of my grandchild and nothing more.

I turn to leave, considering the time I've been waiting outside, when the door opens. It's the same girl who closed it in my face, now opening it for me to enter.

"I apologize for my lack of manners and for leaving you outside. Please come in. Miss Peyton is waiting for you in her room. She understands she can't get up and greet you properly," she says nervously.

"Lead me to the room, and please serve her this soup I specially prepared for her," I say, handing her the food I brought.

"Understood, ma'am," she says, showing me the way to the room.

As I enter, I observe how the room is decorated. It's something I can't help but notice. I look at the woman I've come to visit, and I'm surprised to see so much color in her face. She's supposed to be on bed rest, and her breathing is rapid, which concerns me. However, I don't say anything.

"Welcome, and thank you for coming to see me," she says nervously.

"Don't thank me. I brought you some food that I asked the nurse to heat up. How have you been feeling? I've come because I believe we should start building a relationship for the future. Are you in agreement?" I ask with a closed-lip smile.

"You shouldn't have bothered with the food. I'm completely in agreement with your visit. We need to get to know each other. Also, I still feel embarrassed about the first impression you had of me," she responds, feeling ashamed.

"I see that we both agree on improving our relationship. As for the first time we met, there's no need to dwell on that. It's best to start fresh and build a beautiful family relationship," I fake another smile.

The nurse returns with the warm food and hands it to Peyton on a tray. I hope she tries it and smiles when she does. I smile back and clear my throat to start a conversation.
