Narrated by Peyton:
My pregnancy is going well. I haven't had any problems so far, and it continues that way. Mason spends more time at the office than at home. Well, I can't really call it home because that jerk still hasn't taken me to live where I asked him to. On the other hand, my beloved mother-in-law comes to see me almost every day. She offers to keep me company, or if I want to go shopping, she's available and willing to do whatever I want.
I don't fully trust what she shows me. No matter how hard she tries, I won't trust her. I'm sure she still misses and adores her Paige. I don't believe anything she says about the affection she claims to feel for me.
I'm convinced that Mason hasn't stopped loving that woman, and that's why he doesn't want us to move into that house. That's why he makes up excuses for us not to get married yet. It has been a month since he got divorced, and I'm very annoyed that he hasn't asked me to marry him.
Everything has a limit, and mine is reaching its end. I need him to marry me as soon as possible. I won't tolerate his disrespect any longer, especially when I'm expecting a child. I hate being pregnant, and he better understand that I won't go through this again.
Camila, my nurse, is doing everything she can to help me. Poor thing, she's going crazy with my mood swings. As if that weren't enough, with all these hormonal changes, my desire has increased, and that idiot Mason hasn't touched me in any way, something my body needs and can't get. I'm thinking of calling my ex-neighbor, the one who always stays in touch with me despite the time that has passed. He sends me flowers or chocolates and even money. If it weren't for my mother-in-law who shows up unannounced to see me, I would have already invited him over.
I call Mason for the first time today. I've made up my mind to tell him finally that he needs to let me know his plans, that I can't continue living in uncertainty. I'll make him feel guilty, if necessary, just so he'll marry me.
After three rings, he answers.
"Hello, tell me," he says without even trying to be affectionate.
"Hi, love, how are you?" I ask with a silly voice, doing whatever it takes to make him believe that I love him.
"I'm fine, how about you?" he asks without interest, just out of courtesy.
I want to scream at him, "I have your child in my womb," just to make him be more tactful when speaking to me.
"I'm fine, but I need to talk to you about something important, and I need it to be today. Can you come home early from work?" I try to make my voice sound a mix of sadness and anger.
"Okay, I'll come at four," he says, sounding concerned and nervous.
Oh, of course, you must be nervous, especially concerned. I'm not in my best state, and anything can stress me out and make me angry at the same time.
"We'll see each other then," I say, ending the call without letting him say goodbye.
I'm truly furious, on the verge of exploding and throwing away all the money I'll have by marrying Mason, just by telling the truth, a truth that no one knows, and no one will know until the day I become a millionaire or beyond.
"Think about the money," I repeat to myself like a mantra.
The afternoon passes by quickly, and Mason arrives. I'm waiting for him in the living room, sitting there, staring into space, or rather, at the view of the house where I shouldn't be living right now.
"Hello," he greets, sitting down next to me.
"Hello. We have a lot to talk about," I begin.
"If it's about the house, it's taken care of. My mother has given us a much better one than the previous one. It will be our wedding gift. I know I haven't been acting right lately, but I have a surprise for you, and I don't want to ruin it. That's why I've been working all the time," he says, surprising me.
"A surprise?" I ask, confused.
"Yes, well, more than a surprise, I've been organizing our wedding. Maybe you wanted something grand and all that, but I have everything ready for us to travel to a paradise island and get married among our closest friends. If you don't want to, we can forget everything and do the wedding your way," he says nervously.
"You've prepared everything?" I ask to make sure I heard correctly, and it wasn't my imagination.
"Well, I still need to sort out a few details, but I have most of it ready. If you give me a few more days, everything will be organized and perfect for the day that the location designates," he replies, nervous.
"I love the idea of traveling, well, if the doctor authorizes it," I say, smiling.
"I took care of that already. I have his permission," he says excitedly, and my smile immediately fades.
"Did you go to see the doctor?" I ask, now nervous myself.
"Well, not exactly in person, but I called him and discussed this idea with him. He said it's fine for you to travel short distances and no layovers," he answers, taking my hand.
Phew, I was scared for a moment there. Although I have the doctor under control with what he says and doesn't say.
"Take as many days as you need for the wedding, as long as it's not months, of course. I'm tired of being apart from you, I miss you every day," I say in a sad voice, trying to elicit pity from him.
"Tomorrow, let's go to the house my parents bought for us, choose the furniture, and move in. How does that sound?" he asks, looking distressed.
"I'm completely in agreement with you, my love," I say, smiling wickedly because he can't see me.
I still have the power. Tears from the mother of his child are his weak point, and I take advantage of that. Once the pregnancy is over, I'll figure out how to make him fulfill all my whims. There's always a way, and I'll find it no matter what.
The rest of the afternoon he stays with me, and it's all his fault. Although I can tell he's anxious and nervous at the same time, probably worried about whether what he's preparing will please me.
