His Forbidden Soulmate

Chapter 14

Ch. 15 / 44 Oct 20, 2023

Freya

Why does time fly by so fast when you don't want it to?

It was already Monday, my first day at The School of the Forgotten.

I closed the door of my new car, laying my backpack next to me.

I soon heard a tap on the window. It was Zira. I rolled down the window.

She handed me a lunch box.

"You didn't have to," I told her.

"What if you don't like the lunches there?" she worried.

I took it and thanked her. She and Grandma waved goodbye as I drove from the house and onto the road.

It took me 10 minutes to arrive at the school. A large school that looked like a century-old Catholic building. The school was dark brown, and the sides of the glass windows were painted white. I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly before exiting the car. I was going to be the new kid, and I felt uneasy. I fixed my curly hair and walked straight into the building.

I had my file from my previous school to help me settle in.

"Excuse me, can you show me the administration area?" I asked a security guard.

"You walk straight down the hallway, and you see a sign that tells you where it is," he instructed.

"Thank you."

If I'd known it would be that easy to find my own way, I wouldn't bother asking.

The hallway was empty heading to the admin office; that's what I wanted.

An elderly lady was sitting behind her desk when I entered.

I greeted her and gave her the file.

"You're quite early," she said.

I nodded with a nervous smile.

That's what I wanted—to somehow avoid the crowd.

She reviewed my file.

"You'll stay here until your class starts," she told me.

I checked her name tag; her name was Mrs. Sharon Fullerton.

I nodded and watched her as she got up and walked into the principal's office.

It was not the first time I had moved to a new school. This was my third time at a new school; my first was when I was only ten. I had to attend a new school because my mom had moved in with one of her ex-boyfriends.

For half an hour, I sat in the admin office until it was time for her to lead me to my class.

"You'll be in Ms. Samantha Silks, class," Sharon told me along the way.

Sharon opened the door to my new class, and I entered before the door could shut. My head lowered shyly, afraid to look at anyone as I entered.

"Ms. Silk, this is your new student from Castle High School," I heard Sharon say to the teacher.

My head slowly lifted, feeling bold enough to face my new classmate, and instantly I felt like every ounce of air I had in my lungs left the moment I saw him. The one who saved me in the forest I observed him as he sat in the right corner of the classroom, next to a window, with both hands on his desk. His dark brown eyes watched me for a while and then turned to the window. His action strangely reminded me somehow of the wolf I noticed the night of the mating season. I didn't know why. He too only looked at me for a short while, right before returning to the forest.

"Class," the teacher said, getting everyone's attention.

"We have a new student with us, Freya Hamperton. Please make her feel welcome here."

Ms. Silk showed me to an empty seat opposite him. As I sat down, I found him glancing over at me. His eyes moved from mine as I caught him.
