I couldn't stop thinking of Jurius saving me and how fast he ran into the forest right before I could turn back around to look at him. He was so fast. His speed didn't seem human at all.
I also couldn't figure out why he was at my house.
I was worried. He knew I was committing suicide by jumping from my window. What if he tells someone? I couldn't risk anyone finding out.
In history class, I looked at the seat where I first saw him. He wasn't there. At lunch, I didn't see him either, just his brother and the others.
Throughout the day, all I could think about was him. The memory of him catching me in his arms, how close we were as we stared into each other's eyes, and the feeling of the comfortable warmth of his body. Every time I'm reminded of him, I feel butterflies in my stomach.
Was I truly falling for him?
I've never fallen in love. I am too scared to, seeing how bad-lucked my mom and her family are with men. I didn't know whether to think of it.
The last class for the day was PE. PE was kept on the school field next to the football team. I searched for him, hoping I might glimpse him practicing with the others. I thought maybe he had skipped class for the big football finale, which was around the corner.
"He's not here," I heard Dolly beside me say.
My body jumped, frightened, not realizing she was watching me.
"I'm not looking for him," I lied, and I began to run, catching up with the others.
A melancholy feeling came over me that he wasn't.
When I arrived home, I ran to my room and locked the door, putting away my bag. I went over to the window and looked out, remembering where he had saved me. I memorized falling into his arms repeatedly.
How are you so fast? I was determined to know.
I didn't recall seeing him when I leaped from the window. He was nowhere near me. How did he manage to get to me so fast? I had to know.
The next day of school, I was so eager to see him. Again, he wasn't there, and he wasn't present the other days as well. The weekday was about to end, and still, he wasn't at school. I began to wonder if he was okay.
I leered at his twin brother from across the lunch table. I wanted to ask him about his brother and if he was okay, but I didn't want to seem like I was interfering in his life; after all, I was a newbie in town.
"What are you doing this week?" Dolly asked, causing my head to turn to her.
I was going to say nothing, but I was glad I stopped myself before I could.
"My mom is going to carry me out of town for a while," I lied.
"Oh, okay. I was going to invite you to one of our favourite spots, but since you'll be busy, I understand," she retorted.
"What is my favorite spot?" I was curious to know.
It's a large hill with a beautiful scene of the ocean."
"It must be beautiful," I retorted.
"It is. Also, it's one of Jurius favourite spots as well. I'm sorry you're unable to come," she apologized.
I regretted lying when I heard that it was also Jurius's favorite spot. I wished at that moment that I had the power to travel back in time and stop myself from lying. Perhaps I would have seen him there when I went.
I went over to the bin to throw away my unfinished lunch. I was so upset with myself for lying.
Jurius's brother came next to me and began to empty his tray as well.
"Hey, Tate, what's wrong with Jurius?" A student came up to him.
I slowly removed the food from my tray, wanting to hear
"He's sick," he retorted.
"Sorry to hear, I hope he gets better soon," the male student went off.
Tate put down his stray and went away. I soon placed my tray down as well.
It was a surprise to hear he was sick. The last time I saw him, he showed no sign of being sick. He appeared healthy and active. I didn't know whether to believe that he truly was.
