His Forbidden Soulmate

Chapter 16

Ch. 17 / 44 Oct 20, 2023

Jurius

"Hey, Jurius!" I heard my brother from behind.

I kept walking, knowing what he wanted.

He gained on me next to my car.

"What did you say to that human girl that made her cry?" he asked, concerned.

"None of your business," I told him angrily as I went into my car and drove off quickly. From my rear mirror, I noticed dust rising from my speed. Tate coughed, fanning it away. He stood watching my car until it was out of his sight.

I didn't feel like going home, so I went to one of my favorite spots. A place that always seemed to give me peace.

I sat on the large hill looking down into the ocean, and a thought of jumping in came to me; everything would have ended. I wouldn't have to kill my soulmate, and no one would know about her. I couldn't do it. I couldn't dare put my family and my pack through grief. Tears of anger and frustration emerged in my eyes.

"Why her!" I yelled to the sky.

I cried. I shouldn't be crying, but the pain of disappointment was too much.

I thought poisoning her would be easy, but it wasn't. How did they, who were as unlucky as I, manage to kill their soulmate? My hand angrily covered my nose as if I wanted to suffocate myself, remembering her scent. I wanted to hate it, but I couldn't. She smelled like a garden of roses. Sweet. Like the scent of a rose, she relaxes me. It is a struggle to hate her and a fight to get angry at her. I pushed myself back into the tall grass, holding my chest, while a sharp pain emerged in my heart. Killing her is going to scar me for life.

Dad was on the porch when I got home. He was angry with me; I smelled it. A wolf shifter could sense one's emotions. Tate must have told him what I did.

He approached me as I closed the door of the car.

"Follow me," he commanded.

He led me under a tree.

He then gave me a long look of disappointment before saying a word.

My head dropped. I hated letting him down when he had so much faith in me to one day take on his pack.

"I'm sorry, father," I apologized.

"Were you dating that human girl?" he asked, upset.

My head lifted back to his in surprise.

"No, of course, I will never disgrace you, Dad."

Dad listened to my heartbeat for any sign that I may be lying. A wolf shifter can tell whether you're lying by a rise in your heart rate or a change in your breathing.

Dad then pulled me into his arms, hugging me.

"Thank the moon goddess," he said, relieved.

"Promise me, son, you'll never put shame on me or this pack," he asked, holding me tightly in his arms.

Tears spring into my eyes, and I blink them away.

"Promise me," he again said, staring into my eyes as his hands rested on both my shoulders.

"Promise," I said.

He hugged me again.

It hurts like a knife knowing I've already put shame on the pack and him mostly.

I cannot risk letting him down. I must kill her, no matter how much it hurts, for my dad's sake.
