Entangled with the Billionaire

Chapter 40

Ch. 40 / 101 Jan 12, 2026

Later that night!

Mia was on her bed, watching some late-night movies on her laptop when her phone rang beside her.

A small smile crept to her lips when she saw that it was Colton. She paused the movie, then answered the call.

"Heyyyy," she said excitedly.

"Hi, sweets. Sorry, I'm just calling. I just got home."

Taking a glance at the clock on her nightstand, Mia saw that it was just a little over 10 pm.

"It's fine. You must be so tired." Her heart went out to him. She knew Colt works really hard.

"Not really, I think I'm used to it all. Working hard till late in the night and all of that."

"Hey, I respect you and I respect the fact that you're a hard worker but no more late nights when I move in" she warned.

Colton chuckled. "Sure babe!"

"I'm serious, Colt. You should be home when I'm home."

"Sure! Anything for you, Mia. I'll delegate my work even if I have to."

"I like the fact that you referred to my place as home." He smiled, happy that she was pretty excited to move in with him.

"Of course, what else do you want me to call it? Besides, I think anywhere will always be home as far as you are there with me. I miss you, I miss our cuddles." She whispered.

"Oh God, I do sound like one of those clingy and cringy girlfriends. Don't I?" She groaned.

Colton laughed at how shy she was. "No, you don't. In fact, I think I'll add today as one of the best days of my life. Based on our chat this afternoon and this call, I can't help but think that you're starting to warm up to me and that makes me so happy. I was so glad when you texted me this afternoon. Caleb almost seized my phone." He chuckled at the memory.

"Of course you shouldn't be shy to express your feelings for me. I love it when you do. I miss you too, Mia. Can't wait for you to move in." He confessed. The thought of sleeping and waking up beside her for the rest of their lives sent chills down his spine.

"Honestly, I was dreading it before but that's no longer the case. I can't wait to move in too. I'm sorry Caleb almost seized your phone."

"Don't mind him. He was just jealous. He's always the one pressing his phone in meetings while I throw him glares. I think I seized his phone once so he wanted to get back at me today."

Mia chuckled. "He sounds like a funny person. Our first encounter wasn't the best. I hope he doesn't think ill of me or sees me as a violent person."

"No, babe. Caleb is the coolest person you will ever meet. He can be quite annoying because he plays too much, but really, he's someone that gets along with everyone. He also understands that we had a misunderstanding then. So you've got nothing to worry about."

"That's good to hear. Do you mind if I ask you a question?"

"Sure!" Colton said, heading to the bar area in his penthouse for a glass of whiskey.

"What was life like for you and your exes and what made you break up with them."

The question was unexpected for Colt so there was like a minute silence between the duo.

"Did anyone approach you again? Did Natasha do something?" He asked with a heavy heart, knowing something must have triggered that question.

"No babe, I just want to know. I remember Natasha saying you broke up with your recent ex because she couldn't satisfy you the way she did." Mia said. Colton has had a long day already. She was afraid he was going to freak out if she told him about the text message Natasha sent to her earlier.

"You shouldn't take all that Natasha says to heart. She's a psycho."

"I know. But there are some things people say that unknowingly sticks to your memory. You want to forget about it but for some unknown reason, you can't. It's okay if you don't want to talk about it."

Colton sighed.

"Well, I dated two girls in high school. The latter relationship ended a couple of weeks after graduation. She moved to another state and the long-distance relationship was not working for us."

"I started dating Natasha halfway through my years in college. We never even made it official, things just happened. I didn't officially ask her to be my girlfriend. Of course, we've known each other since we were little but I don't know how we got closer in college. We were always going places together and people began to assume we were dating. I think we just went with the flow."

"We were together till two years after college I think. Then I broke up with her. I wasn't feeling the vibe between us anymore, it was like she was with me because I was Colton Royal. The fact that we were dating gave her some sort of upper hand to be rude and bossy. Not to me, but to other people. She posts literally everything about us on social media. We had no privacy. I lost interest in her so I ended it."

"Then I met Tina during my second Masters in Australia. We both got along well because we were from New York City. She said yes to me when I asked her to be my girlfriend. Natasha was jealous of what we had but she didn't cause us trouble and neither did we go separate ways because of Natty."

"Tina and I were together for five years. She was the one who broke up with me. Apparently, She wasn't feeling the passion between us anymore. I was really crushed because I thought she was the one for me. She was different and was everything Natasha wasn't. But I had to let her go because her heart belonged to someone else. She's married with two kids now."

"Are you still in contact with her?" Mia couldn't help but ask.

"No. I just happen to know her husband. He used to be close friends with Me and Theo."

"I'm so sorry!" Mia whispered, wondering how he must have felt about his ex getting married to a close friend.

"It's fine. I was pissed at first but I got over it. I was so surprised at how fast I got over them. And that made me start to wonder if I truly loved Tina as I claimed to have. Besides, everything happens for a reason. Tina and I were not just meant to be."

"I gave up on women since then and was single for 5 years. My parents and Caleb would always set me up for blind dates with the worst girls. Caleb and Ashley were starting to think I was gay. I don't know how they came up with that when I hardly even hang around with friends except for Theo who has a girlfriend."

Mia chuckled. "They were probably pulling your legs, just to get you out there."

"Yup. And I'm glad our passionate night happened. I wouldn't trade that night for anything else."

"Me too." Mia blushed.

"I'm sorry for everything you had to go through." She said, sincerely. She was relieved that Natasha was lying. Colt and Tina's breakup had nothing to do with her (Natasha).

By the way, Theodore is my best friend. He has a girlfriend called Sammie. She was the one celebrating her birthday the night we met. They can't wait to meet you. We will probably hang out together this weekend.

"I can't wait to meet them. I also have a request to make. Can I go on?"

"Sure babe," He answered.

"I'm really not good with words and I think you know that, but here it goes anyway. I know I'm not the most beautiful woman in the world but I'm thrilled to know that you chose me. We didn't start off well but I'm glad we are beginning to get along."

"I've always been an introvert; I may not be experienced like you but I want you to know that you can always teach me anything. I'm a fast learner and I'm willing to learn."

Colton chuckled. "Mia, is this what I'm thinking?"
