"You will see when we get there." With a small smile on Colt's face, he leaned over and placed a kiss on her nose. Then he started the car engine, driving towards the place he had in mind.
Mia decided to trust him and not ask any more questions. Just like Tessie had advised, She decided to go with the flow and enjoy herself with Colton.
Colt started a conversation a couple of minutes later "Your sister is amazing,"
"I know. I'm really grateful for her presence in my life. Since we lost our mom, she literally took up that role and had been taking care of me and my other siblings. I try to be there for her too because I know it's not really easy being there for us all."
"I'm so sorry about your Mom." Colton took a glance at her before turning his attention back to the road.
"Thanks," Mia mumbled. He noticed the sadness in her voice and his heart went out to her.
"My mom and I fight a lot, more than my other siblings but God knows I cannot imagine my life without that woman. I can imagine how hard it must be for you and your siblings. You all are so strong and I have no doubt that she's proud of all her babies."
Colton took Mia's hand from her lap and gave it a light squeeze while he held onto the steering with the other hand.
"I guess that's the only thing that is keeping us going. The fact that she's proud of us on how we are handling our lives. I know she would want us to be happy so I try to make sure I'm happy."
Colton nodded. "I have no doubt that she was an incredible woman. If you don't mind, I would love to visit her."
Mia looked at Colton. "A..are you sure about that?"
"Of course. I need to thank her for birthing an incredible woman and also give her my word that there's no need to worry about you anymore since you have a superhero by your side."
Mia chuckled. "Who's the superhero?" She teased.
"Me of course!" He said proudly.
"Oh really?" She laughed.
"Are you trying to deny me?"
"Like it's even possible to deny you. You're literally everywhere, even in my dreams." Mia mentally facepalmed as soon as those words came out of her mouth. She didn't mean to mention seeing him in her dreams.
"I knew you always had wet dreams about me!" He smirked, taking a glance at her.
"You wish!" She scoffed, trying so hard not to blush.
"You're a terrible liar. I hope you know that!"
"I saw you in my dreams didn't mean we did anything," Mia explained.
"Like hell will I believe that!"
"God, you're so full of yourself." She blushed.
"Don't blame me, babe. I know what I'm capable of doing in people's dreams." He said seductively.
"Oh, God!!!" She groaned which earned a chuckle from Colton.
"Of course, sweetheart. And you know that I'm being sincere. I mean, what's the essence of having dreams? Doing what you don't do or you've never done in reality! If only you would be honest and tell me what those dreams entail." He smiled at her.
"Never!" Mia mumbled.
"It's that bad, hun!" Colt took a glance at her with a smirk plastered on his face.
"I hate you!" She mumbled.
Colton laughed. He reached for her hand, brought it to his lips, and placed a kiss on it.
"You don't need to feel weird or embarrassed. I'm not a saint either. I've also had dreams about us since that night. You want to hear them?"
"No." She answered immediately.
"Why?" He teased.
"Because I don't want to hear them."
"Why don't you want to hear them?"
"B..because, we are on the road and you're driving so you need to be focused. Besides, I didn't tell you mine so you don't have to tell me yours!"
Colton chuckled. "I'm used to talking and driving, Babe. But it's fine if you don't want to hear it. I know it's because you're shy. I'll respect your decision."
"I'm not shy."
"Oh really?" Colt took a glance at her.
"Maybe a little. I'm still trying to get comfortable around you." She confessed.
Colton nodded slowly. "You're feisty, you can be shy when you want to, you know how to stand your ground when you believe in something, you can be a handful when you want to and you're quite possessive as well. I like all shades of you, Mia. So, please try to be yourself around me. I don't bite, well, except you want me to?" He winked at her and she playfully hit his arm which earned a chuckle from Colton.
"Did you also mention possessive?" She asked. She was generally possessive over her close ones but she couldn't remember showing her possessive side in his presence.
Colton nodded. "I saw that side of you the first time we met. You were very possessive when making love to me."
"Why do you like making me uncomfortable with topics like these?" She mumbled and it was obvious that she was shy.
"Babe, you shouldn't be uncomfortable, shy, or be embarrassed about anything. Most especially about our first night together. It's part of us. We owned that night because if not for that, we wouldn't be here today. And whether you like it or not, we are still going to talk about every single detail of what happened that night."
"Not fair," Mia mumbled. "I wasn't exactly in my right senses. I was really desperate; something that has never happened before."
Colton smiled, "while you had an upper hand, I could say that was the weakest moment of my life."
Mia chuckled, "Stop exaggerating,"
"For real, babe. I'm someone that would not easily give in to anything, most especially doing what you made me do. I tried not to give in but it was like you cast a spell on me."
Mia laughed, making Colton smile. He liked the fact that she was starting to be herself around him. "A spell? If only I could cast spells on people."
"Wait, isn't this the way to your family home? Mia asked. She had never been there but everyone knew where the Royal family home was located.
"Yeah, but it's not what you're thinking. Don't be scared."
Mia absentmindedly heaved a sigh of relief.
"My mom insisted that I should bring you home for dinner whenever we are both free."
"Your mom?"
"Yes, love. I confronted her about disliking you and she confessed she didn't mean it. She was just so obsessed with the idea of me and Natasha being together. I'll remember to tell her how much of a disaster Natty is."
"I told my mom that the dinner will be later when we both are free so there's no need to worry about meeting my family for now."
Mia nodded. She was so relieved by that.
After a few minutes' drive, Colton came to a halt in a very quiet place. He got down from the car, went to the other side, and helped Mia down.
"That's your family house, right?" She gestured to the very big and beautiful home that was just a couple of steps away from where they were.
"Yes," Colton answered, intertwining his hands with hers. "Come with me," He said, then led the way.
"This whole property is owned by my parents. I have so many beautiful memories of my family spending time together. As much as I would have loved to continue to live here, I had to move out for my sanity."
"For your sanity?"
Colton nodded. "Everyone was so possessive of me and it was starting to freak me out. Most especially my mom. Because I lived in the mansion, She knew my every move and would always nag whenever I came home late or skipped meals."
Mia smiled. "You can't blame her for caring too much. She's your mom so it's okay for her to be concerned."
"I know and I'm grateful but it got annoying and of course, I can't live with my parents forever so,"
Mia nodded in understanding.
"Welcome to the Royals backyard," Colton said as he opened the back gate that led to the yard.
"Wowwwwwww!" Mia exclaimed the moment she stepped in and took in her surroundings.
"I've only seen places like this in magazines. This is so beautiful! It doesn't even look like a backyard." She mumbled. She could only imagine how the mansion would look on the inside.
Apart from the fact that the backyard was big, it was decorated with modern furniture. There were two swimming pools which were at the opposite ends of the backyard. the indoor/outdoor pool and a normal size in-ground infinity pool.
Beside the in-ground infinity pool was an outdoor chilling area. Comfortable couches, a small fireplace in between, a television set, and not too far away was a bar/kitchen area with a dining table. And of course, beautiful trees and plants in certain corners of the yard.
Despite the fact that it was late in the night, the lights in the backyard didn't fail to display the beauty of the place.
"This is crazy!" Mia whispered.
"I know right!" Colton whispered behind Mia. Then he went to stand in front of her.
"I have something for you!" He said putting his hand in his pocket.
"Colt," Mia whispered, hoping it wasn't what she was thinking.
Colton saw the look in her eyes and chuckled.
"Calm down babe. It's not what you think it is." He said as he took out a small jewelry box from his pocket.
Mia didn't look less nervous either.
Colton went ahead to open the box and it turned out to be a very gorgeous diamond necklace. The chain looked simple but one could tell it was a very expensive one. It also had a small oval diamond in its pendant area.
Mia's mouth went dry as she stared at the precious item. It was so beautiful.
"Yo...you promised no more gifts for me. I haven't even worn the one you got me. Sorry, I can't accept this!"
"It's not from me," Colton answered.
Mia frowned.
"It's from my Grandmother. This was one of her favorite pieces of jewelry. She gave it to my mother to keep it for the lucky woman who would steal the heart of her first grandson."
"Was?" Mia asked, confused.
"My Grandma died a couple of years ago. Since then, her twin sister had taken the role of a grandmother to me and my siblings. We call her Grandma Jane. She and my Grandfather live in Greece."
"My mom came to see me in the office today so she brought the jewelry along with her."
"This backyard used to be one of my Grandmother's favorite places in this mansion. My siblings and I have so many memories of her playing with us here. And I felt it would make sense to give you this here."
"Of course, this place was not how it used to be years ago, there's been a couple of renovations but her memories still live here."
"That's so sweet of her but are you sure you want me to have it?"
"A hundred and one percent sure!"
"But Colt, this is too much for me. It's your Grandmother's but it looks as good as new. You should probably still keep it with you. I'm afraid I will misplace it or unknowingly destroy it."
"It's not too much for you, Babe. And no, I can't keep it with me because it's meant for you to wear. There's no need to worry about misplacing it because I know you will cherish it."
Colton took out the necklace from the box, handed the box to Mia which she accepted with shaky hands. Then he went behind her to put it on for her. Her hair was in a ponytail so it was easy to fix. Once done, he placed a soft kiss on Mia's left shoulder, then slowly turned her around so she could face him.
"Gorgeous!" He smiled at how well the necklace fitted her.
Mia looked down at her neck, still not believing that the precious jewelry was hers.
"Don't worry, you will get used to wearing it all the time."
"Hopefully,"
"Thank you!" She whispered.
Colton smiled, then placed a long kiss on her forehead.
"You hungry?" He asked.
"A little."
"I contacted the chef to make us something. We will leave once we are done eating." With his hand on the small of her back, Colton led Mia to the dining table where dinner was waiting for them. Once they were done eating, they left for Colton's penthouse.
