Colton's eyes were trained on the laptop before him. He was listening attentively to what his partners on the other end were saying. But his attention was divided when he heard someone badge into his office. He was forced to look up and seeing who it was, he froze for a second where he was seated.
Seeing that she was walking towards him with nothing but anger on her face, he exited the live meeting and rose to his feet.
Before Colton could say anything, he felt a hand land across his face. His left cheek to be precise. She hit him really hard. "How dare you?" She said with nothing but venom in her voice.
Caleb who witnessed everything stood still in shock. Realizing they were probably having a misunderstanding just like every other couple, he decided to give them some privacy. He helped himself out of Colton's office and shut the door behind him.
Colt was shocked by Mia's action. Sure, he was surprised to see her in his office but he never saw the slap coming.
"What was that for and what are you doing here?" He asked, trying to keep calm.
"How dare you ask me what that was for? I thought you were different but clearly, all men are the same. You're even worse than Christoph."
"Don't you dare compare me to that animal!" He raised his voice at her.
"Why wouldn't I compare you to him when you're no worse than him. Even before me, you are still pretending you don't know why I'm here."
"If I know why you're here I wouldn't be asking. And of course, what did I do to deserve such a slap? If there's anyone that's meant to be angry here, it's me and not you."
"You're a liar who's acting like someone innocent." She yelled at his face.
Colton frowned, not understanding what she was talking about.
"You told your family that we were dating and I was pregnant with your child. Are you for real? Your dick didn't even enter my pussy. Do I need to remind you of that?"
"What?" Colton said in shock, surprised as to how the news got to her.
"Please stop acting like a saint. Why the hell did you tell such a lie when I didn't even know your name? I mistook you for some regular guy. If I knew you were Colton Royal, I wouldn't have looked at you twice. You think because of your status, you can trample on my integrity and treat me like shit just like the way you treat people who are not as rich as you are. You disgust me!"
"I know I'm privileged to be born into a rich family but I promise you that I work as hard as everyone else in this company, if not more than them and I also treat everyone with respect. Look, it's not what you think. How did you even get to know about it?"
"Your Mother came to my office to accuse me of ruining her son's life because we met at some club and I got knocked up. She didn't even give me the chance to explain that I don't know you or that all you told her was false."
Colton ran a hand over his neatly styled hair. "I'm really sorry about that. My parents took me by surprise by telling me about an arranged marriage between me and their friend's daughter. Someone I don't like a bit. So to escape that, I had to tell them I was dating a girl called Mia and she was pregnant with my child."
"If I told them I was dating you alone, they would have insisted that I broke up with you. So I had to include the fact that we were both expecting a child to escape the matchmaking."
"I didn't give my parents details about you. I only told them your name was Mia. I had no idea my mom would go this far. Tracking and confronting you."
"But really, how could you come up with such a big fat lie? Couldn't you come up with another excuse? Your Mom is already into this 'grandchild thing'. She threatened to deal with us if anything should happen to the baby. An imaginary baby that you didn't put in me. It didn't even sound like a threat. She was so damn serious when she spoke. She looked and sounded like someone that would put us in jail for it."
"She said she doesn't trust my Doctor so she's going to tell Richard to contact me and he will be in charge of me."
"To top it all, She said her grandchild isn't going to be born out of wedlock so we have to get married!"
"She said that?" Colton said with a frown on her face.
Mia glared at him as a response. He sighed, then ran a hand over his face. "I didn't mean for all of these to happen. I didn't even plan on mentioning your name to my parents. It was two days after our encounter, you were still fresh in my mind, I didn't see the announcement coming and I just said anything that could save me from not getting married to someone I don't like."
"Honestly, I was planning on revealing the truth to my family this week because I know I can't keep them in the dark forever but I've been so busy with work." Sincerely, Mia could notice his tired eyes. The tiredness could even be detected from the way he spoke but she tried not to be affected by that.
"I don't care what your excuses are. I'm going to make it clear to your Mom that I do not know you and you are the one who made up lies. I'm going to tell her that I'm not the one misleading her son but it's you who's misleading everything. Even your brother thinks I'm carrying your child already. Like, what the fuck?"
Colton massaged the left side of his forehead. He was having a headache before his zoom meeting which had gotten worse now. "You don't have to do that. I'll talk to her myself and clear the misunderstanding." Colton said. He believed it was better if the truth came from him.
"Whatever! Do what you feel like doing but don't you ever lie with my name again or approach me in any form. We both promised that what we had that night was nothing. You made me promise that but you're the one who's making a big deal out of it."
"Really? That night meant nothing to you?" She could hear the hurt in his voice but she tried not to get affected.
"Of course, it meant nothing to me!" She answered.
"You're a liar!" He said to her,
"The liar here is you, remember? Only God knows how many people you've told my secret to. I was in a state of vulnerability, I trusted you and told you practically all of my life secret and this is how you repay me?"
"Why do you think very low of me?" He asked. "The first time we met, you were so confident about your trust for me but you're being the exact opposite right now."
"Look, I have no business with you. Just clear up my name and let's move on with our lives, forgetting what happened last week. You have all the money in the world, go look for a girl, name her Mia, impregnate her and introduce her to your family." She said, then was about to take her leave but Colton held onto her hand before she turned around.
"When did you turn cold? Why do you keep hurting me with your actions and words? I didn't bother to challenge you about the slap because I know I deserved it and it's normal for you to react that way. But I already apologized and told you the reason for my action."
"I'm not interested in any other girl in the world but does the idea of me getting married to you disgust you that much? You didn't seem disgusted by me the other night."
Mia tried to free herself from Colton's hold but he wasn't having it. He purposely didn't let go of her.
"I wasn't in my right senses then. If I knew you were Colton Royal, I wouldn't have approached you. I don't even remember much of what happened that night. I only remember waking up next to you and escaping."
"Liar!" He said. "Look into my eyes and tell me you've not dreamt about last Friday night. Look into my eyes and promise me you've not dreamt about me making love to you in your dreams even if we didn't go that far. Look me in the eye, Mia, and tell me you've not constantly thought about our passionate night." He challenged her.
Mia swallowed painfully, stylishly avoiding his eyes.
Getting no reply from her, he spoke. "I know we agreed that what happened that night, stays in the hotel room but come on, you left just like that?"
"What was I supposed to do? Wait for you to wake up and cook me breakfast?"
"I can't cook but I could have ordered breakfast for us. Do you know how disappointed I felt upon realizing you had left?"
"Didn't we agree that there would be no sentiments?" She said,
"This isn't all about sentiments. I had hoped we could talk things out and at least be friends. Babe, that night was special to the two of us, why are you acting like it wasn't?"
"Because it wasn't special for me! I appreciate that you helped me forget Christoph but look, I owe you nothing."
Colton was about to say something else but he stopped himself. He let go of Mia and with one last look at him, Mia stormed out of his office.
