Stepping into his penthouse, Colton's phone buzzed in his pocket. Reaching for it, he saw that it was his Mom. He sighed, then tossed his phone on a nearby table. He proceeded to the kitchen for a bottle of water. By the time he returned to the living room, his phone had stopped ringing.
Opening the cap of the bottle, he gulped down some water. His phone ran again. It was his Mom. Putting the bottle on the table, he reached for the phone and answered the call.
"Hi Mom"
"Hi, Baby. How are you?"
"I'm fine, Mom. How's Dad?" He asked, taking a seat on a nearby couch.
"Good to hear. Your Dad is fine. He's in the study making some calls. We both got back this morning. I wanted to call you earlier but figured out you would be busy. That's why I waited until this time."
"Yeah, Caleb informed me that you guys were back. I hope everything is okay. You and Dad are never one to cut short vacation"
"Yes, everything's fine. Your Dad had urgent things that needed his attention so we had to cut the trip short. I guess your brother also told you about the dinner on Sunday."
"He did but I don't...."
"No excuse, my love. I haven't seen you for two months. Apart from having dinner with my husband and all of my babies, your Dad and I have something to tell you all."
"But you can always break the news to us over the phone."
"Not this time, sweetheart. I'll be expecting you at 7. Don't keep us waiting."
"Mom!" Colton groaned, massaging his temple.
"I've got the weirdest Son. I literally have to book an appointment or plead with him before he shows up for family events."
"You know that's not true."
"Then why do you love avoiding us?"
"Mom, are you really asking me this question?"
His mother sighed from the other side. "Fine. I promise to be on my good behavior. All conversations will be about us and nothing more."
"I have a meeting with a client on Sunday. I'll show up if the meeting ends on time."
His mother smiled. "Thanks, baby. Your father and I will be expecting you."
Both mother and son talked some more before ending the conversation.
........
After talking to his Mom, Colton went for a shower. As the water touched his head and every part of his body, memories of last night with Mia came rushing back. He shivered at the memory of her giving him the best blowjob he has ever had. He could literally still feel his dick inside her mouth.
"What have you gotten yourself into, Colt." He murmured as he looked down at his cock which was slowly getting erect all because he was thinking about Mia.
Despite how he buried himself with work today, she still managed to occupy his mind and his fear was not being able to forget her, and even if he might eventually be able to forget her, he was afraid it would take a long time.
Coming back to reality, Colton did his business in the shower and was out in no time. Walking out of his closet all dressed in his nightwear which consists of pajama pants and a matching shirt, he met his phone ringing. Reaching for it on the bed, he saw that it was Chad who was calling. Without thinking twice, he answered the call.
"Yes, Chad." He said to the other side.
"Good evening, Boss! I've forwarded her info to your mail. It's very detailed. With regards to how her day went, it seems she went to an all-night party because she only returned to her apartment at a little over 6 am. In an hour, she was out again, all dressed up for work. You will find her work information in the document I sent to you. She came home straight after work and she had a visitor who hasn't left till now."
"Male or female?" He asked, referring to the visitor. Hoping it was not the douchebag he was thinking.
"A female. From my findings, She's Miss Mia's best friend. Hailey Fisher."
"Better!" He found himself whispering in relief. He wouldn't want to say that Mia was a weak person who could actually accept Chris back into her life. It's just that he didn't trust Chris.
"Thanks, Chad. I'll be expecting tomorrow's report too but I also have another assignment for you. Did you by any chance come across someone named Chris while investigating Mia?"
"Yes, I did. Christoph Lewis. Her ex."
"Track him down for me tomorrow. I need to teach him a lesson."
"Okay?!!" Chad replied, a bit shocked about Colton's request. He had known Colt for years now and Colton wasn't someone who would take laws in his hands or someone who really dwelled on revenge.
"Do you need me to get someone to help you deal with him?" He asked, not sure as to what Colt had in mind.
"There's no need. I'll be fine. Just get hold of him and text me the venue."
"Sure, if that's what you want. Miss Mia must really mean a lot to you."
"I'll pretend I didn't hear your last statement. I'll be expecting your call tomorrow, Good night." Colton ended the call.
Tossing his phone on the bed, he went over to his workspace which was on the other side of the room. He took a seat behind the portable desk and turned on his laptop. Waiting for the device to come on, he poured himself a glass of water from the jug on the desk.
Once the laptop had booted, he went straight to his mails to check what Chad sent. Opening the file, he carefully went through its content.
Mia Edwards was the third child of four siblings. She would be 27 years old in a couple of days, She had a best friend named Hailey Fisher and she works for a magazine company as one of their editors. Looking at her monthly earnings and all other benefits given to them at the company where she works, Colton sighed. She was receiving something that's not much, yet she spent it on that douchebag.
As far as Colton knew, being a lady was really expensive. He learned that from his younger Sister. So he could only imagine how much Mia had to sacrifice since she was living paycheck to paycheck and giving almost all her earnings to Chris. His younger sister's weekly allowance was times ten of Mia's Salary and that annoyed the shit out of him but again, he had to remind himself that everyone was not as privileged as his family.
Based on the info provided by Chad, he could see that Mia lost her Mom when she was in high school. So since then, it has been just her, her Dad, and siblings. She was also more of an introvert and had not too many friends.
Noting her address, he realized She lived an hour's drive from where he resides. One of the local neighborhoods in New York City. He knew that area quite well and he was happy that the neighborhood was a safe one at least.
What got Colton shocked was the fact that he saw she had been arrested before in the report Chad provided. But he didn't include details of the arrest.
Colt rose to his feet, reached for his phone on the bed, and dialed Chad who picked up after a few rings. "You didn't include the details of the arrest. Why was she arrested?" He asked with a heavy heart. He didn't want to believe she had done something wrong.
"About that, I'm still investigating it. But it had something to do with her ex. Chris did something wrong and since he used to live with her, they assumed she was a suspect and arrested the both of them."
"That bastard!" Colton grumbled, massaging his temple, trying to send away the headache that was starting to build up in his head.
"Lay your hand on him as soon as possible and give me a call."
"Sure, Boss!"
"Thank you." Colton ended the call.
