Knowing she would probably not get any work done after noon, Mia tried to put her morning time into good use. After taking a bath and having her breakfast, She reached for her laptop and got some work done until about 1 pm when Hailey appeared with her niece, Adrienne, whom Mia was going to babysit.
"Hi, boo." Hailey pulled Mia into a hug the moment she opened the door.
"Hi, sweets." Mia returned the hug. Pulling away, She greeted Hailey's niece.
"Hi, love." She picked up Adrienne. "You've grown so big, Remember me?" She asked the four-year-old who nodded with a small smile on her face.
"Of course she does. There's no one related to me that doesn't know my best friend.
"Aunt Hailey talks about you all the time!" Adrienne said.
"She does?" Mia said, acting surprised.
Hailey rolled her eyes at Mia's sarcasm, shutting the door behind her.
Adrienne nodded.
"She talks about me more than Enoch?" Mia asked the little girl.
"I think so," Adrienne responded.
Hailey scoffed at the duo. "Enoch better not hear you both."
Mia ignored her best friend. "That's good to hear. I'm so happy to see you again, sweetheart." She kissed Adrienne's forehead.
"Is Enoch downstairs?" Mia asked.
"No. But he will be here soon to pick me up." Hailey said, taking a seat on the couch.
"You still haven't told me where you both are going or is it a secret?" She took a seat beside Hailey, carefully placing Adrienne on her lap.
"I wish I actually knew where we were going. He only told me last night that I was going to accompany him somewhere today."
"Are you nervous?"
Hailey shook her head as a small smile crept to her lips. "Actually, I'm kind of excited. I have a feeling he has a surprise for me and I can't wait for him to reveal whatever it is."
"Good for you both. Just make sure you all come back in time for dinner."
"Yes, Ma'am." She grinned. "So how have you been? I can't believe I haven't seen you in days." Hailey said.
"We talk on the phone every day so it's fine. I'm okay, I guess."
"You've settled with your 'pest' colleague?" She asked, referring to yesterday when she called Mia and Mia thought it was Colton. "By the way, You didn't tell me arrogant Ben bought a new car. I just saw it downstairs."
Mia sighed, not knowing what to say. Ben was her next-door neighbor who was always trying to impress the women in the neighborhood with material items.
"Ben didn't buy a car!" She mumbled.
"He didn't?" Hailey frowned. "But it's parked right outside your....." she was saying but stopped. "Wait, did you fucking get a car?!!"
"That's a bad word, Aunt Hailey. My mama is going to be very mad at you." Adrienne said, willingly coming down from Mia's laps.
"I'm so sorry sweetheart." She kissed Adrienne's left cheek. "Go get your iPad from your backpack and watch some cartoons." Adrienne obeyed. Her backpack was on the sofa, opposite the couch She and Mia were seated on.
Hailey turned her attention back to Mia, waiting for some sort of response.
"Are you sure Enoch isn't downstairs already?" She tried to change the conversation.
"Is that a Yes?" Hailey asked, hopefully. She wasn't mad that Mia got a new ride. She was just surprised that Mia never said anything about it.
"It's a gift. It arrived this morning. It's too flashy, isn't it? Maybe I should just return it?" Mia replied.
"Why do you want to return it if it's a gift?" Hailey asked with creased eyebrows.
"Everyone that knows me knows I can't afford something like that. They would probably think I stole from a bank or something."
"Since when did you start caring about what random people thought about you? And of course, if you stole from a bank, you wouldn't be walking around freely. You will be behind bars. Anyone can save up to buy a luxury car."
"I had thought you saved up to get yourself that beauty. Even though I was starting to get mad at you for not telling me about it, I'm happy for you. You said it's a gift, if it's from the depth of the giver's heart, I see no reason why you should return it."
"So, who gifted you the car?" Hailey smiled, looking at Mia suspiciously.
"Please don't ask me." Mia groaned.
"You need to tell me, Mia. Who's the generous person?"
"The person I met the day Chris broke up with me."
Hailey's smile grew bigger "The one you had a night stand with?" She whispered. She couldn't afford Adrienne asking her what a night stand was.
"We only spent the night together, it wasn't a night stand," Mia mumbled. She felt since She and Colt didn't have sex, then it shouldn't be termed a night stand.
"Really? That passionate night doesn't amount to a nightstand? Why are you always in denial, babe? But wait, you said he only knows your first name, how did he find you? I also hope he doesn't have a silly motive or else, he will have me to deal with."
"Yeah, I only told him my first name but unfortunately, he has his ways so he was able to locate me."
"Is today the first time you both communicated since that night."
Mia shook her head.
"That makes sense. So you both have been doing naughty things behind my back."
"You have a dirty mind, Hailey. I've been busy with work all week."
Hailey giggled. "Just pulling your legs, babe. You felt so guilty leaving him at the hotel that night. I'm glad you guys are back together but why do you look kind of worried?" She whispered the last part.
Mia sighed. "Because I know you will freak out once I tell you what's on my mind."
"What is it?"
"Colton Royal." She whispered.
Hailey frowned. "What does that Royal dude have to do with us?"
"He's the one I had a passionate night with?"
Hailey's eyes were as wide as saucers.
She cursed softly the moment she came back to reality. "Are you freaking kidding me?" Hailey said with a smile. "I heard somewhere that the gentle ones are the baddest bitches."
"But you said you don't know the dude. You mean you didn't recognize him that night?"
Mia shook her head. "You know I don't care about these celebrities and what they look like. I had mistaken him for some regular guy. I even remember offering to tip him with 200$ so he would spend the night with me, not knowing I was talking to a very rich personality. That night, he didn't behave rude, or behave in a way that could make me think for a while that he was a Billionaire."
"God Mia, You lucky Bitch, Colton Royal was voted the sexiest man in the world for three years in a row now. Three good years! Babe, you legit slept with the sexiest man alive."
"Stop making a big deal out of this, Hailey." Mia groaned. "We didn't make love and I wouldn't have had anything to do with him if I knew who he really was."
"Then how did you find out that he's Colton Royal?" Hailey couldn't help but ask.
Mia took her time to explain everything to her best friend. From Victoria Royal's confrontation to her confrontation with Colt, the marriage proposal, and everything that happened this morning. She also told her about the threat.
"Say something, Hailey," Mia whispered.
"I'm thinking of what to say. Everything you said is just too much to take in."
"From all you've said, he has admitted that he feels something for you, He wants you to carry his child, he has promised to protect you, provide for you, love and cherish you and has even promised to let you go after a year if you still don't feel anything for him"
"I think Colton has a good reputation regarding his love life, unlike his younger brother who's a player. He sounds like he's into you already and he's willing to give the relationship his all."
"But everything boils down to what you want, darling." She stared into Mia's eyes. 'Do you see the two of you making a good couple? Do you want him to be the father of your child? Do you want to give him a chance?"
"I know you all didn't meet the best way. He probably knows everything about you while you know nothing about him. The point is that you've done everything the normal way with your exes and things didn't work out with them. You knew them for a while before dating them and things didn't work in the end. Maybe it's time to take a big step and just go with the flow. You really have nothing to lose if you ask me. What's life without taking risks? You've even met his family already."
"Just a few of them," Mia whispered.
"You've met his Mom, His playboy brother who surprisingly acted very caring to you, Colton's sister helped him pick your outfit for the date he's hoping you will agree to, his staff delivered the gifts to you. And I'm sure he has a few close friends who he has confided in about you, just the way you're telling me everything."
"You've met everyone without even realizing it. His grandparents are also aware of you. But I have a question and I want you to be sincere with the reply."
"Do you like Colt? He has made it clear that there's a burning fire between you both but I've not heard from you about how you really feel."
"Take your mind off the fact that he actually threatened us with our jobs. I don't think he can bring himself to do such a thing even though he had promised to. He seems too kind for that. But we never know, someone like him won't hesitate to do anything to get what he wants. He may not tamper with our Jobs but tamper with only yours."
"But seriously, there's no point being with him if you don't like him a bit or feel anything for him. So babe, do you like Colton Royal?"
Mia sighed, then ran a hand over her hair. "I don't know if I like him. He seems trustworthy even though I've done nothing but doubted him. The night we spent together was no doubt the best night of my life. We couldn't get enough of each other. Thinking about it, I'm surprised at how matured we both were that we didn't go any further. There's a burning desire between us. But I don't know if I'm ready to become a mother."
"In that case, I'll take it that you like Colton. I understand your fears about not being ready to be a mother because I'm not ready too and I know what it feels like when you're not ready for motherhood."
"But in this situation, you're not alone. Talk to Colton, make him understand your fears and worries. I'm sure you both will be able to work things out. If he truly likes you, his priority will be to please you!"
