Between Four of Us

Chapter 18

Ch. 18 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

Camille drifted in and out of consciousness, her mind a haze of chaos and confusion. Distant voices floated around her, muffled and indistinct, cutting through the fog like shards of glass. Pain radiated from her side, sharp and insistent, urging her to wake up, to fight back.

“Camille! Please, stay with us!”

Noah’s voice pierced through the darkness, and with a surge of willpower, she opened her eyes. The warehouse was in disarray—smoke swirled in the air, debris scattered everywhere, and the flickering lights cast eerie shadows across the walls.

“Matthew…” Camille whispered, her voice barely audible, but he was already beside her, cradling her head in his lap, his face etched with fear.

“I’m here,” Matthew said, his voice shaking. “You’re going to be okay. Just hang on.”

“Where’s Leo?” she asked, panic rising in her chest. She tried to push herself up, but a sharp pain shot through her side, forcing her to collapse back into his arms.

“Victor’s men… they took him,” Matthew’s voice broke, his fear pressing down on them both. “I tried to stop them.”

Before he could finish, a loud crash echoed through the warehouse. Leo stumbled into view, disheveled but alive, anger flashing in his eyes.

“Get away from her!” Leo shouted, rushing toward them, fists clenched.

“Noah! Matthew! What’s going on?” Leo asked as he approached.

“Victor’s men are closing in!” Noah urged, helping Matthew to his feet.

Then the door to the warehouse burst open. Victor stormed in, surrounded by his henchmen, a sinister smile spreading across his face.

“You didn’t think you could outrun me forever, did you?” Victor sneered, his eyes glinting with malice. “It’s over.”

“Leave us alone!” Camille screamed, struggling to stand as pain throbbed through her body.

But Victor only laughed, stepping closer, his gun aimed directly at her. “I always win, Camille. You should’ve learned that by now.”

Before anyone could react, the air exploded with a deafening sound. A gunshot rang out.

Camille gasped, her heart seizing in her chest as she watched Victor stagger backward, his eyes wide with shock. Blood bloomed across his chest as he collapsed to the ground, clutching at the wound.

“No!” Leo shouted, rushing to Victor’s side.

Time seemed to slow down as Matthew, Noah, and Leo all stared at their father, disbelief painted on their faces. The man who had tormented them, manipulated them, and torn their lives apart was now lying motionless, his life slipping away with every second.

“No… no, this can’t be happening!” Noah cried, kneeling beside Victor, his hands trembling.

Victor coughed, blood staining his lips. His once cold, calculating eyes now filled with something resembling regret. “I… I didn’t mean for it to end like this,” he rasped, his voice weak.

“You… you were our father,” Matthew said, his voice breaking, torn between rage and sorrow. “Why did you do this to us?”

Victor’s breaths were shallow, his life ebbing away. “I wanted control… power. But I lost everything… even you,” he whispered, his eyes flickering toward Leo, Noah, and Matthew.

For a brief moment, there was silence. Then, Victor’s body went limp, his hand falling lifelessly to the ground.

The three brothers stared at their father’s still form, the weight of his death crashing down on them. Camille, weak and dazed, could only watch as the scene unfolded, feeling the intense mix of grief and anger emanating from them.

Leo sank to the ground, his face twisted with pain. “He was crazy, but he was still our dad…”

Noah wiped at his eyes, fighting back tears. “I hated him, but…”

Matthew stood frozen, his chest rising and falling with heavy breaths. “He’s really gone,” he whispered, his voice hollow.

The brothers mourned in silence, their emotions a tangled mess of resentment and love for the man who had shaped their lives in ways they hadn’t even begun to process.

But just as they were beginning to come to terms with what had happened, the sound of sirens cut through the night, approaching fast. Camille’s heart jumped—there wasn’t time to stay here.

“We need to go,” Camille whispered, her voice weak but urgent. “The police…”

Matthew snapped out of his daze, his face hardening as he pulled Camille to her feet. “We can’t stay here. They’ll think we did this.”

Leo nodded, wiping his face with the back of his hand. “Let’s move.”

But before they could escape, a voice rang out from the shadows, cold and sharp.

“Going somewhere?”

They all turned to see a woman stepping into the dim light, her dark figure emerging from the darkness. She was tall, with striking, fierce eyes that pierced through the gloom.

“Who the hell are you?” Matthew demanded, stepping protectively in front of Camille.

The woman smiled, her expression chilling. “Let’s just say, Victor wasn’t the only one who had plans for you.”

Camille’s heart raced as the weight of the woman’s words sank in. Whoever she was, she wasn’t here to help. And Victor’s death… was only the beginning.
