Camille’s pulse quickened as she stood outside the abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town. The moon cast an eerie glow over the building, its jagged edges silhouetted against the night sky. The message from Matthew had been vague, but the urgency in his words lingered, sending shivers down her spine. She wasn’t sure why she’d come—maybe curiosity, maybe something more.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket, pulling her from her thoughts. It was a text from Noah: “Where are you? You disappeared after the fight last night. I’m worried.”
Camille’s heart twisted with guilt, but she couldn’t bring herself to answer him. Not yet. The tension between the brothers had escalated far beyond anything she could have imagined. If she wasn’t careful, she could lose all three of them—or worse, they could lose each other.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the creaky door of the warehouse and stepped inside. The cold, empty space sent a chill down her spine. In the corner, Matthew stood waiting, his back turned to her as he stared out of a broken window.
“Matthew,” she called out softly, her voice echoing in the vast room.
He didn’t turn around, but his shoulders tensed. “You came.”
“I didn’t have much of a choice,” Camille replied, her voice wavering slightly. “You left me a message with no explanation. What’s going on?”
Matthew finally turned to face her, his expression unreadable. His steel-blue eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, she felt the weight of everything that had been left unsaid between them. There was something dangerous about the way he looked at her—something she couldn’t quite place.
“We need to talk,” he said, his voice low and controlled. “About last night. About everything.”
Camille took a cautious step forward, her heart racing. “What do you mean? What happened last night was a mess, but that’s not why I’m here. Why did you ask me to come alone?”
Matthew crossed the room in a few swift strides, his tall figure towering over her. “Because you need to understand what’s really going on. This isn’t just about you, Camille. My father has been pulling strings—controlling everything behind the scenes. He’s the reason Leo and Noah are at each other’s throats.”
Camille’s stomach dropped. “Your father? What does he have to do with this?”
Matthew’s expression darkened, his voice filled with bitterness. “He’s manipulating them, using you as a pawn to push his own agenda. He doesn’t care about their feelings—or yours. All he sees is an opportunity to keep us tied to the family business, and he’s using every trick he can to make sure we don’t leave.”
Camille shook her head, disbelief washing over her. “That’s insane. Why would he care about me? I don’t have anything to do with your family’s business.”
“You do now,” Matthew said, his voice sharp. “You’re part of it whether you like it or not. He sees you as a way to control us—to keep us in line. And Leo and Noah… they’re falling right into his trap.”
The weight of Matthew’s words pressed down on Camille’s chest, making it hard to breathe. “But why me? Why is your father doing this?”
Matthew’s jaw clenched, his eyes flickering with something darker. “Because he knows we’re all in love with you. And he knows that if we’re fighting over you, we won’t be able to fight him.”
Camille’s heart pounded in her ears. “In love with me? You—”
Matthew stepped closer, his gaze intense. “Yes, Camille. Me, Leo, Noah… we all have feelings for you. And that’s exactly what my father is using against us.”
The revelation hit her like a freight train. She’d known there was tension between the brothers, but she hadn’t realized it ran this deep. Or that their feelings for her were more than just fleeting attractions.
“But you,” she stammered, “you’ve been so distant. Cold, even. You act like I don’t exist.”
Matthew’s expression softened, just for a moment, as if the walls he’d built around himself were starting to crack. “That’s because I was trying to protect you. I thought if I kept my distance, you wouldn’t get caught in the middle. But it’s too late for that now.”
Camille’s mind raced, trying to process everything he was saying. “So, what now? What am I supposed to do with all of this?”
Before Matthew could answer, the door to the warehouse slammed open, and Leo stormed in, his face a mask of fury. “What the hell is this, Matthew? You’re meeting her behind our backs now?”
Matthew’s eyes darkened as he turned to face his brother. “This isn’t about you, Leo.”
“The hell it isn’t!” Leo spat, stalking toward them. “You’ve been playing this cold, distant game while Noah and I are tearing each other apart, and now I find you here, alone with her? What are you trying to pull?”
“Back off, Leo,” Matthew growled, stepping protectively in front of Camille.
“No,” Leo snapped. “Not this time. I’m done letting you control everything. You think you can play God with our lives, keeping your distance while we fight over her? You’re a coward.”
Camille’s heart raced as the tension between the brothers reached a boiling point. She had never seen Leo this angry, and the way he glared at Matthew made her stomach churn with unease.
“No, you’re the coward,” Matthew shot back, his voice dangerously calm. “You’re the one who’s too weak to see what’s really going on. Father’s been playing you like a puppet, and you’re too blind to realize it.”
Leo’s fists clenched at his sides, his eyes blazing with rage. “I don’t give a damn about Father. This is about you trying to steal her from me.”
“Steal her?” Matthew let out a harsh laugh. “I’m not the one lying to her, Leo. I’m not the one trying to manipulate her into choosing me.”
Before Leo could respond, the sound of footsteps echoed in the distance, and all three of them turned toward the door. Noah stood there, his face pale and drawn, his eyes filled with a mix of hurt and betrayal.
“Matthew… Leo… Camille…” he began, his voice barely above a whisper. “What’s going on here?”
Camille’s heart sank. How could she explain this to him? The tension between the brothers had reached a breaking point, and now, Noah—kind, gentle Noah—was caught in the crossfire.
Matthew’s gaze hardened. “Noah, this isn’t what it looks like.”
Noah’s eyes flickered with hurt. “Then what is it, Matthew? Because from where I’m standing, it looks like you’re all keeping secrets.”
As the brothers faced off, Camille’s phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out, her blood running cold as she read the message on the screen.
“This isn’t over. Meet me again tonight.”
The sender: a number she didn’t recognize. Camille felt a wave of dread wash over her. Who had sent the message? She glanced up at Matthew and the brothers, her heart racing as she realized the danger that loomed ahead.
