Between Four of Us

Chapter 16

Ch. 16 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

Camille’s world spun as darkness enveloped her. The sound of her own heartbeat echoed in her ears, drowning out the chaos around her. A jolt of fear coursed through her as she fought to grasp what was happening. Where was she? Why couldn’t she see?

Suddenly, her senses sharpened, and she felt the rough texture of a cold surface against her back. She blinked against the dim light filtering through an opening, recognizing the musty scent of the warehouse she had entered earlier. But this time, everything felt different—charged with a sense of dread.

“Camille!”

Matthew’s voice pierced through the haze, frantic and filled with worry. The sound drew her attention, and she instinctively turned toward it, her heart racing with hope.

“Matthew!” she called out, her voice cracking with fear.

Before she could call again, a heavy hand gripped her shoulder, pulling her upright. She gasped, spinning around to find herself face-to-face with Victor, a smug smile plastered across his face.

“Welcome back to the fold, Camille,” he said, his voice smooth as silk but dripping with malice. “I trust you enjoyed the surprise party?”

“Let her go!” Matthew yelled, fury radiating from him as he lunged forward, but several of Victor’s men restrained him, holding him back.

Camille’s breath quickened as she took in the scene. She spotted Leo and Noah, equally restrained, their expressions a mixture of anger and concern. Panic surged through her; she couldn’t let Victor succeed.

“What do you want with me?” Camille demanded, trying to sound braver than she felt.

Victor’s eyes glinted with amusement. “What I want is simple, dear Camille. You’re the key to keeping my boys in line. As long as you’re in the picture, I can ensure they won’t stray too far from the family business.”

“What business?” Camille snapped, her defiance rising against the overwhelming fear. “You’re just manipulating them. You don’t care about any of us!”

Victor chuckled, stepping closer, invading her personal space. “Oh, but I do care, sweetheart. I care very much about power and control. And with you at the center of it, I’ll have them all.”

“No!” Matthew shouted, struggling against the grip of Victor’s men. “You can’t do this! You’ll lose us if you keep this up!”

Victor’s gaze flickered over to Matthew, and for a moment, his smile faded. “That’s where you’re wrong, Matthew. You are my sons, and they will do exactly as I say. You’ve made this personal, and now it’s time to teach you a lesson.”

“Don’t you dare touch her!” Noah shouted, desperation evident in his voice.

Victor ignored him, turning back to Camille with a sinister smile. “You see, Camille, I have plans for you—plans that will ensure my boys stay on the right path. And it all begins with a little test of loyalty.”

“What kind of test?” Camille asked, her voice trembling slightly despite her efforts to remain strong.

Victor stepped back, gesturing to his men. “Take them away. We’ll have a little family meeting to discuss how best to secure our future.”

“No! Let them go!” Camille cried out as the men dragged Leo and Noah away, their protests echoing in the dimly lit space.

Matthew was left struggling against his captors, fury blazing in his eyes. “You’ll regret this, Victor! You can’t control us forever!”

Victor leaned in closer to Camille, a dark glint in his eye. “Oh, but I already have. And soon, you will understand just how far I’m willing to go to keep my family together.”

As Camille watched Leo and Noah disappear into the shadows, a cold chill washed over her. She was utterly alone in this, and Victor’s grip was tightening around her like a noose.

“Now, let’s get down to business, shall we?” Victor said, his tone shifting to one of cold calculation. “You’re going to help me ensure my boys do exactly what I want. If you refuse… well, let’s just say I have ways of making them suffer.”

“No!” Camille gasped, the weight of his threat sinking in. “You can’t do this! You don’t know what you’re asking!”

Victor’s expression hardened. “I know exactly what I’m asking. You’ll either cooperate, or I will make their lives a living hell. Choose wisely.”

Camille’s heart raced as she weighed her options. She could feel the walls closing in, her mind racing with the implications of what Victor wanted. If she agreed to his demands, what would that mean for Noah and Leo? Would she be betraying them, or was it the only way to protect them?

“Time is running out, Camille,” Victor prompted, his voice low and menacing. “What will it be?”

Before Camille could answer, a loud crash echoed from the direction Leo and Noah had been taken. The sound reverberated through the warehouse, and Camille’s heart jumped at the possibility of their return.

“What was that?” she exclaimed, her instincts kicking in.

Victor turned sharply, his expression morphing into anger. “Get back here!” he barked at his men, who moved to investigate the noise.

In that brief moment of distraction, Camille felt a rush of adrenaline surge through her veins. She needed to act—now.

With a sudden burst of courage, she shoved Victor away from her and dashed toward the shadows where Leo and Noah had disappeared. “Matthew! Leo! Noah!” she yelled, desperate to reach them.

“Camille, wait!” Matthew’s voice rang out, but she couldn’t stop. She had to get to them.

As she rounded a corner, she skidded to a halt. There, in a small side room, she saw Leo and Noah struggling against their captors. Their faces were etched with determination, but the odds were against them.

“Camille!” Noah shouted, relief flooding his voice. “Get out of here! It’s a trap!”

But it was too late. Victor’s men were closing in around her, their presence suffocating.

“Catch her!” Victor ordered, his voice cold and commanding.

In an instant, the men lunged toward Camille. Panic gripped her as she turned to flee, but she stumbled, falling to the ground.

“Get up!” Matthew yelled, his voice frantic.

Just as she scrambled to her feet, Victor’s hand closed around her wrist, yanking her back. “You’re not going anywhere,” he growled, pulling her closer.

With every ounce of strength, she twisted in his grip, her heart racing as she fought to break free. She caught sight of Leo and Noah, their eyes filled with desperation.

Suddenly, a loud crash erupted from behind them, and the entire warehouse shook. The walls trembled, dust falling from the ceiling, and Camille’s heart leaped as she saw a figure bursting through the chaos.

“Get away from her!” a familiar voice roared, cutting through the noise like a beacon.

Matthew lunged forward, eyes ablaze with fury as he barreled toward Victor and Camille. In that moment, everything seemed to shift.

“Matthew, no!” Camille cried, the world spinning around her as the confrontation escalated.

Victor’s grip tightened, but Matthew was already there, pushing him aside, determination radiating from him. “I won’t let you take her!”

Just then, the sound of sirens wailed in the distance, and Camille’s heart raced as she realized help was on the way.

“Time’s up, Victor!” she shouted, her voice strong despite the chaos. “You’ve lost control!”

Victor’s face contorted in rage, but before he could react, the warehouse doors burst open, and law enforcement poured in, lights flashing, weapons drawn.

“Drop your weapons! Hands in the air!” a voice shouted, echoing through the warehouse.

As chaos erupted, Camille felt a surge of hope. This was their chance. But as the confusion grew, Victor’s expression darkened.

“Get her!” he shouted, a desperate edge in his voice.

In a frantic rush, Victor shoved Camille toward one of his men, but she twisted away, racing toward Leo and Noah.

“Camille, hurry!” Noah yelled, reaching for her.

But just as she felt his hand grasp hers, Victor lunged from behind, grabbing her again with surprising speed.

“Stop her!” he ordered, his voice seething with anger.

In that moment, everything seemed to blur. Camille was yanked back, her heart pounding in her chest as she fought against Victor’s hold.

“No!” Matthew shouted, lunging toward her, but the chaos consumed them all.

As the officers moved in, shots were fired, and the sound echoed like thunder, causing Camille to freeze. In the midst of the turmoil, she could barely breathe, fear coursing through her veins.

And then, just as quickly as it began, everything went dark again as a loud explosion rocked the warehouse, sending debris flying and engulfing them in smoke.

Amid the chaos, Camille felt herself being pulled away from Leo and Noah, her vision blurred by dust and panic.

“Camille!” she heard Matthew’s voice faintly calling through the haze, but it was drowned out by the chaos, and in that moment, everything slipped away.
