Third person's POV
Just as Jenny wanted to say something, Tabitha waved her hand and said, "I wanna have some rest. Don't let that man in. I don't wanna see him."
"OK."
Jenny tucked Tabitha in and then left. Meanwhile, Derek was still outside the ward with Kyrian in his arms.
"Dad, I want Mom," Kyrian pleaded in a sobbing tone, clutching Derek's collar with a pitiful look.
Kyrian would soon turn three this year and was already able to express his ideas.
He hadn't seen his mom for a long time. Little as he was, he didn't understand why his mom, who used to hold him lovingly before, suddenly became so harsh against him. All he wanted now was a hug from his mom.
Derek held Kyrian with one arm. Feeling sorry, he explained to Kyrian, "Your mom is sick, so she can't hold you for now."
"Sick?" Kyrian blinked. "Like this?"
As he spoke, he coughed, acting like when he had a cold. Seeing this, Derek gently scratched Kyrian's nose and said softly, "Your mom got very sick."
"Then she needs to take some medicine," Kyrian piped up.
"Sure. We'll give her some medicine, and she'll get better."
With that, Derek sighed, "OK. Now, let's go back."
As the two of them walked past the garden, Kyrian seemed to have thought of something. He pointed at the blooming flowers in the garden and then pointed at his own head, saying, "Flower crown! Dad, Mom wore a flower crown."
Hearing this, Derek somehow felt a pang in his heart. After all, that was something that happened over a year ago. He never expected that Kyrian would still remember it.
At that time, the three of them went camping together, and Kyrian and Derek picked a lot of flowers to make a flower crown for Tabitha.
Although Kyrian was little, he still vividly remembered his mom wearing a flower crown and smiling happily that day.
However, every time Derek recalled the past, he would feel pain in his heart.
But Kyrian didn't think that much. "Pick flowers." He ran to the garden, picked a lot of beautiful flowers, and handed them all to Derek.
Derek asked, "You wanna make a flower crown for Mom?"
"Yes." Kyrian nodded.
"Then let's do it together."
When the father and son were picking flowers in the garden, a loud female voice burst. "Who's there? Are you stealing flowers? Are you short of money or something?"
Kyrian still didn't know what was going on. But Derek immediately picked Kyrian up and ran away without even looking back. This was his first time in life being seen as a thief.
The head nurse shouted from behind, "Hey, young man, you look tall and well-dressed. Really didn't expect that you were actually a thief."
Tabitha had laid down for a while, but the scene of Derek touching Reid's head kept lingering in her mind.
Before, there was a moment that Tabitha thought maybe Derek was being serious this time. But after she saw that scene, she knew she was being stupid again.
She felt like a fool, being tricked by Derek again and again.
When the head nurse came in to draw Tabitha's blood for examination, she asked as usual, "Ms. Hartley, how do you feel today?"
"A bit better. But I still feel weak," Tabitha replied.
"Don't worry. You're actually doing much better than other patients, you know? Basically, the first half month will be very difficult for you, but it'll gradually get better afterward. Well, however, the next round of chemotherapy will begin soon," the nurse sighed.
"Next round?" Tabitha furrowed her brow.
The head nurse noticed Tabitha's worried look and quickly changed the subject, smiling, "Anyway, let things take their course. Ms. Hartley, no need to worry that much. You know what? Just now, I saw a father with his child stealing flowers in the garden downstairs. Oh, my goodness. Instead of preparing a bouquet themselves before visiting the patients, they actually went to pick the hospital's flowers. I don't know what that man was thinking. Well, but I gotta say, he's definitely not a good example for his son."
