Alpha's Caged Love

A mother's love

Ch. 110 / 159 May 05, 2026

Cayden stood tall and imposing in the dimly lit interrogation room. His piercing eyes bore into the figure shackled to the metal chair before him. Michelle sat hunched over, fear etched across her face. Alpha's fury radiated through the room, his voice laced with anger and disappointment.

"How could you betray me, Michelle?" His voice boomed, his anger simmering just below the surface. "You colluded with Hawk; tell me everything!"

Michelle's trembling voice barely escaped her lips. "Alpha, I'm sorry. I never meant for things to go this far. Oscar promised me safety and protection. I thought I had no choice."

Cayden's nostrils flared, and his jaw clenched tightly. "No choice? You always had a choice, Michelle. You were part of this pack. And you throw it all away."

Tears welled up in Michelle's eyes as she struggled to find her words.

"Really? Is that why you discarded me after having used me? I thought we had something special...."

Cayden's gaze softened, but his anger still smouldered beneath the surface. He took a step closer to Michelle, his voice low and intense.

"There was nothing special, and you know it. You were jealous of Selena; hence, you hurt her. You were so blinded by your greed that you betrayed everything we stood for."

Michelle's voice quivered as she tried to explain herself. "I didn't know what else to do. I was desperate. Please, Alpha, I'm begging you to understand."

Cayden's eyes flickered with a mixture of pain and frustration. He circled around the room, his footsteps echoing in the silence. Finally, he stopped and leant against the table; his expression hardened once again. "Tell me everything, Michelle. "To know the full extent of your betrayal, I need to know who else was involved and what they planned."

Michelle took a deep breath, her voice barely above a whisper. "Oscar colluded with Hawk and was planning to take you down. He wanted to weaken your influence and seize control for himself. He introduced me to Hawk, and they hatched a plan. They promised me a chance to start over and escape this life. That day, I kidnapped Selena and took her to Hawk. She didn't run away."

Cayden's anger was palpable. He towered over Michelle, his voice laced with a mixture of betrayal and sorrow. "You have blood on your hands, Michelle. I lost my mate because of you. Natasha died because of you."

"What else do you know? Tell me everything," he barked in anger.

"I just know that Hawk asked me to return Selena back to the pack. I swear I don't know what happened or what he said or did to her."

Michelle broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. "I wanted no one to get hurt, Alpha."

Cayden remained silent for a moment; his gaze fixated on the broken woman before him. Slowly, he straightened his posture, his voice firm but tinged with resignation. "Michelle, your actions have consequences. I can't erase what has happened, but I can promise you this: justice will be served. You will face the consequences of your betrayal."

Michelle looked up; her tear-stained face filled with remorse. "I deserve whatever punishment you deem fit, Alpha. I'm ready to accept responsibility for my actions."

Silence enveloped the room as the weight of their exchange settled upon them. Both Alpha Cayden and Michelle understood what the path ahead would be.

"Where is Selena?" Cayden asked.

"Hawk has her. That was where Oscar was to deliver her. He was sure that you would be bedridden for several days. Meanwhile, Hawk could get the council's support and attack the pack."

Cayden frowned. Even if Hawk had Selena, how was he going to force her to testify against him? What was he using to blackmail Selene? How was he going to force her to testify against him? What was he using to blackmail her? Or perhaps Selena still hated him and went willingly?

His wolf protested and dismissed the thought.

"She is our mate; we are mated now. She would never have saved your life if she wanted you dead." Cayden agreed.

"Alpha, there is one more thing," Michelle whispered.

"What?"

"I saw a witch with Hawk. He seemed to consult her about something."

Cayden frowned. "A witch ? Can you identify her ?"

Michelle modded.

Selena paced restlessly in her room, anxiety and anticipation entwining like a tumultuous dance. Her thoughts were consumed by one undeniable truth—a secret that filled her heart with both joy and trepidation. She was carrying Cayden's child. The pregnancy had been an unexpected twist in her life's fabric, but Selena couldn't deny the flicker of happiness that warmed her soul.

Selena longed for her mother's presence as she gently rested her hand on her belly. Her mind was filled with the memory of her mother's warm embrace and loving guidance, like a balm for the ache of longing. She wished her mother could be here right now, witnessing this watershed moment in her life. Selena imagined how happy her mother would have been with the impending arrival of her grandson.

Selena's room seemed to transform as she lost herself in her reverie, the air thickening with an ethereal energy. And then her mother appeared before her eyes, a shimmering apparition of love and wisdom. Selena's heart skipped a beat as she was overcome by a bittersweet mix of awe and desperation.

"Mother," Selena said quietly, her voice trembling with longing and uncertainty. "Is it really you?"

A soft smile graced her mother's spectral form as she reached out a translucent hand, reassuring Selena with her gentle presence.

"Yes, my dear, it is I," her mother's voice echoed, imbued with a serene grace that soothed Selena's troubled mind. "I am here to offer you the wisdom of a mother's love."

"How come you are here?" Selena asked in disbelief.

Jennifer smiled. "I assumed you needed me."

Selena's eyes glistened with tears, a profound sense of relief enveloping her. "I've missed you so much," she confessed, her voice tinged with a mixture of sorrow and gratitude.

Her mother's ethereal figure drew closer, a warm embrace of energy that wrapped around Selena like a protective shield. "And I have watched over you, my precious daughter," her mother murmured, her voice carrying an otherworldly resonance. "Now, tell me, what weighs so heavily on your heart?"

Selena hesitated; her emotions tangled like a web spun by a myriad of conflicting desires. "Mother, I am torn," she admitted, her voice laden with vulnerability. "I will have to testify against Cayden to save your life."

Her mother's ghostly visage emanated a sense of understanding. "What is there to doubt?" You must not testify against him. Hawk must be punished for his misdeeds."

Selena's brows furrowed as she grappled with her mother's words. "But, Mother," she protested softly, "if I don't testify against Cayden, dad will kill you."

"He can't kill me; he needs me to stay alive. Therefore, you must not testify against Cayden. You must reveal your trust in your father."

Selena's gaze dropped to the floor, conflicted emotions swirling within her. "But, Mother, what about you? What will happen to you? How can I get you back?"

Her mother's voice carried a serene wisdom as she responded, her words resonating through the very core of Selena's being. "My dear, I am not truly living anyway," she said, her voice filled with a gentle acceptance. "It is time for you to let me go, to release me from the burden that binds me. Only then can you find your own peace."

"No! I can't do that. You must wake up. I will make sure that you are cured." Selena said. She was agitated.

"Selena, listen. My life force is keeping Hawk alive and unharmed. To kill him, you must let me go. I am bound to him."

Selena's heart wrenched at the thought of bidding her mother farewell once again, but a newfound clarity illuminated her path. Tears spilt from her eyes, mingling with a profound sense of understanding. "I love you, Mother," she whispered, her voice filled with a mixture of gratitude and sorrow. "I will do as you ask."

Her mother's spectral form flickered, a gentle smile gracing her translucent features. As her mother's apparition faded. Selena cried out to her.

"Mother, wait. Please don't leave."

The room was shrouded in the soft embrace of darkness, the lingering remnants of a nightmare clinging to the edges of consciousness. Selena's eyes fluttered open, her body drenched in cold sweat, her heart pounding in her chest like a wild, untamed beast.

Selena's senses gradually reacquainted themselves with the familiar contours of her room as the veil of sleep lifted. The moonlight seeped through the half-drawn curtains, casting ethereal shadows on the walls.

A soft sigh escaped her lips as she took a moment to collect her thoughts, to separate the remnants of the night's agony from the waking world. The dream's tendrils clung to her consciousness.

Selena brushed away the strands of damp hair that clung to her brow with a trembling hand.

Standing on shaky legs, she made her way to the wall-mounted mirror, drawn to the reflection that awaited her. Her eyes, which had been clouded with fear, now held a glimmer of hope. She knew exactly what to do.
