Alpha's Caged Love

The awakening

Ch. 135 / 159 May 05, 2026

Dr. Colin stood in the hospital, and the clean smell of antiseptic wafted towards him. He looked around the room and noticed the neat rows of beds that were ready for the injured. After the war, there would be a lot of chaos and doubt, but the infirmary was a place where things were in order.

He was getting ready for a lot of wounded people to come in when the door to his office flew open. Nurse Bertha rushed in with wide eyes and a tense face which differed from her normal calm demeanour.

"Doctor Colin!" She couldn't catch her breath, and her words were full of worry and fear. "It's the patient who is in a coma. Something is going on with her."

Dr. Colin's heart was beating fast as he moved quickly towards Jennifer's room with long steps. Nurse Bertha was close behind him, and her worried face was a copy of his own. As he focused on getting to the room, the hallways seemed to blur. Every second that went by felt like an eternity.

When they walked into Jennifer's room, they saw flashing lights and many people moving around quickly. The monitors showed that her vital signs were not stable at all. As Dr. Colin looked at the strange patterns, his eyes narrowed, and his mind raced to figure out what was going on.

He walked up to Jennifer's bedside and told Nurse Bertha in a loud voice, "Get me a sedative now." Because of how important the situation was, he adjusted the settings of the medical equipment with deft fingers.

As Nurse Bertha ran to get the drug, Dr. Colin's eyes stayed on Jennifer's body, which was already out of consciousness. Her chest moved quickly up and down, and she breathed hard, as if in reaction to an invisible force. The monitors beeped at different times, sending an alarm signal that made the room even more tense.

Dr. Colin gave Jennifer the sedative through her IV line with a steady hand. He kept his eyes on the monitors as he waited for her vital signs to settle. As he watched the numbers on the screen, each second felt like a painful beating.

And then, just as he feared the situation was spiralling out of control, a remarkable shift occurred. The erratic lines on the monitors gradually steadied, and the beeping returned to a more regular rhythm. Dr. Colin released a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding, a sense of relief washing over him.

But even as the monitors showed signs of improvement, Dr. Colin's eyes remained fixed on Jennifer. He observed the subtle changes in her expression, the way her brows furrowed, as if she were amid a struggle. It was as if her unconscious mind was grappling with something profound and overwhelming.

And then, in a moment that felt suspended in time, Jennifer's eyes fluttered open. The room seemed to hold its breath as her hazy and disoriented gaze roamed the surroundings before finally locking onto Dr. Colin.

"Jennifer?" His voice was a gentle enquiry, his heart pounding in his chest as he watched her, hoping for a response.

Her lips parted, and her voice was barely more than a whisper. "Where am I?"

Dr. Colin's features softened into a reassuring smile, his presence a steady anchor amidst the confusion that Jennifer must have been feeling. "You're in the infirmary, Jennifer. You're safe."

Her fingers twitched, a sign that her connection with the world around her was growing stronger.

"Nurse Bertha, get some water," Dr. Colin instructed, his attention never wavering from Jennifer's form.

As Nurse Bertha hurried to comply, Dr. Colin's eyes remained locked onto Jennifer's, a mixture of concern and curiosity in his gaze. "Do you remember what happened?"

Jennifer's brow furrowed, her expression a mixture of concentration, as she attempted to piece together the fragments of her memory. "Hawk, he killed me, and then there was darkness."

Dr. Colin nodded; his voice was gentle as he filled in the gaps. "Yes, you were in a coma. But you're awake now."

Nurse Bertha returned with a glass of water, and Dr. Colin helped Jennifer sit up slightly, offering her the glass. Her fingers trembled as she took a sip, her gaze never leaving his face.

"Jennifer," Dr. Colin began, his voice carrying a depth of emotion that mirrored his relief, "your vitals were all over the place. It's as if something was happening within you."

Jennifer's eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and realisation washing over her. "I felt something. It was like a storm within me, like a struggle."

Dr. Colin's expression was thoughtful; his mind was already spinning with possibilities. "We'll need to run some tests to make sure everything is alright. But for now, the most important thing is that you're awake and coherent."

"But who are you, and what is this place?" Jennifer asked, confused.

Dr. Colin took a deep breath and said, "You are in the Spirit Walker Pack hospital. Alpha Cayden brought you here."

"Spirit walker?" Jennifer mumbled.

Dr. Colin nodded, understanding Jennifer's confusion. "Yes, you were in a coma for 15 years. You have a lot to catch up on."

Jennifer's eyes widened in shock as she processed the information. "Fifteen years? How is that even possible?" she exclaimed; her voice filled with disbelief. Dr. Colin sighed sympathetically. "We're still trying to understand it ourselves. It's a phenomenon that we've never encountered before. But right now, what matters is that you're awake, and we can help you adjust to this new reality."

"My daughter? Selena, where is she?" Jennifer asked, her voice trembling with concern. Dr. Colin's expression softened as he replied, "Selena is safe and sound. She's grown into a remarkable young woman, and I'm sure she'll be thrilled to see you awake. She is also Alpha Cayden's mate."

Jennifer's eyes widened in surprise as she processed the information. "Alpha Cayden? Who is he?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

Dr. Colin smiled gently. "It's a long story. Let's check your vitals first, then I will tell you all about it.”
