A few hours earlier
As David walked into Cayden's territory in the middle of the night, it was dark and spooky. Cayden had called him urgently and said he had a plan, so David had no choice but to go. Werewolves took their promises seriously, and David had told Cayden he would help in any way he could. And he knew Cayden was the only one who could help get rid of his father.
He wasn't alone, though. Rose was with him as well. As they made their way through the dense forest, their senses heightened at the presence of danger lurking in every shadow.
Finally, they reached Cayden's territory, where he awaited them in a dimly lit clearing. The glow of the full moon overhead gave his eyes an eerie gleam. David couldn't help but wonder what Cayden had cooked.
Cayden turned to face David.
"Ah, David. I'm delighted you could join me tonight. As promised, I have a plan. But it won't be easy, and you must play your part."
David's brow furrowed in suspicion. "What do you want me to do?"
"I need you to capture me," Cayden declared, causing both David and Rose to exchange bewildered glances.
"Capture you?" David echoed, unsure if he had heard correctly. "Why in the world would you want that?"
Cayden smiled. "Hawk is shrewd, far too shrewd to believe that I would surrender myself willingly. But if you subdue me with a dart, we can make him think that you've successfully captured me. It's the only way to get close to him without raising suspicions."
Rose interjected, her voice dripping with scepticism. "You think this would work?"
"This is the only way. It's the only way we can finish Hawk, Magnus, and everyone else at the same time." Cayden's eyes gleamed with determination as he continued, "We have to take this risk if we want to bring them all down and finally put an end to their reign of terror."
David couldn't deny the logic of the plan, as twisted as it seemed. He had to admit that Cayden had a certain flair for theatrics that could prove effective in deceiving the cunning Alpha Hawk. Reluctantly, he agreed to go along with the scheme.
Meanwhile, Rose nodded in agreement, her mind already racing with strategies to infiltrate the werewolf council's den. "But how will you take down everyone on your own?"
"Who said I would take them down on my own? I need your help to get me into the council building before the ceremony. Your uncle is handling the catering and entertainment, I believe."
Rose's eyes widened with realisation. "Yes, he is! I can discreetly arrange for your people inside the council under the guise of catering and entertainers. Once we receive your signal, the chaos will begin."
Cayden's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Excellent. Let the games begin!"
With Cayden effectively "captured," Rose set her plan in motion. Under the cover of darkness, she and others infiltrated the werewolf council, disguised as staff members. Blending into the background.
*************
Furious, Hawk stormed towards the Alpha's quarters, his steps echoing with each stride. He found Alpha Michael brooding in a dimly lit chamber, his face bearing the marks of battle and defeat.
"Explain yourself!" Hawk demanded, his voice dripping with anger. "Why did you attack Alpha Cayden without my permission? Do you know what you've done?"
Michael, though bruised, held his ground, his eyes smouldering with defiance. "Why not?" he retorted. "The werewolf council has fallen, and Magnus is in charge. It was the perfect time to make our move and expand our territory."
Hawk's jaw tightened, trying to contain his rage. "Perfect time or not, you acted recklessly! You could have cost us everything we've worked for. Cayden is cunning and unpredictable. We need to plan our moves carefully."
The two alphas locked their gazes, a silent clash of wills taking place between them. Hawk knew Michael had as much ambition as he did, but they had always been cautious and strategic in their pursuits. This out-of-character rashness was deeply unsettling.
Before their argument could continue, a messenger arrived with an urgent message. ""David has arrived with an injured and bound Alpha Cayden, Alpha Hawk," the messenger panted. He declares he has apprehended him."
Hawk's surprise mingled with suspicion.
"David captured Cayden?"
The guard nodded. Hawk knew his son well. David was too soft to achieve such a feat. Hawk's mind raced with questions, wondering how David had captured someone as powerful as Cayden. Doubts crept in.
"Bring them in," Hawk commanded, eager to see the man who had caused him so much trouble.
Moments later, David strode into the chamber.
"You captured Cayden?" Hawk questioned him, his scepticism clear. "How did you manage that?"
David's gaze wavered for a moment before he replied, "It was luck, father. I wanted to please your father. So, I followed Alpha Michael and stumbled upon Cayden in the forest, and he was weakened from his encounter with Michael. I seized the opportunity and subdued him."
"Very well," Hawk said, his voice measured. "But be warned, David, I know your games all too well. Speak the truth."
David's eyes met his father's with a mixture of guilt and resolve. "I promise, father, I speak the truth."
With that, Hawk motioned for Cayden to be brought before him. The injured Alpha was bound and weary, but his defiance remained intact. The room seemed to hum with tension as the two alphas locked eyes, each challenging the other in a silent battle of wills.
Cayden, though injured, wore a self-assured grin, making no attempt to hide his amusement. "Congratulations, Hawk!" he taunted. "You have me at your mercy. What will you do now?"
Hawk's anger surged anew at Cayden's insolence, but he held his composure. "I will decide your fate soon enough," he replied, his voice laced with anger.
"What shall we do with Cayden?" David asked, breaking the silence.
Hawk turned his attention back to his son, weighing his options.
"Kill him, of course!" Hawk growled while glaring at Cayden.
David's gaze remained steady as he replied, "Why not present him to Magnus?"
Hawk considered his son's words.
"Introducing him to Magnus would show our strength," David continued. "It would send a message to the other Alphas that we are not to be trifled with. It may also deter future adversaries from underestimating us."
"You make an interesting argument, David; I didn't know you were that smart," Hawk conceded. "Very well. We shall present Cayden to Magnus."
David's expression brightened, relieved that his father had fallen into the trap. And that is how Cayden was able to breach the ceremony.
