Alpha's Caged Love

Unexpected betrayal

Ch. 123 / 159 May 05, 2026

Thalia and Ruben sat in a dimly lit corner of the council building, their heads bent close together as they whispered, contemplating their next move. The council building, usually filled with bustling activity, was eerily quiet as night settled upon the city.

"He insists he is innocent," Ruben grumbled. Referring to Hawk.

"Of course he will. Have you ever seen a thief, or a criminal accept their crime?" Thalia replied, her voice laced with scepticism. "I have got him arrested just to give Cayden some time."

Ruben leant against a marble pillar, his arms crossed and a wry smile on his face. "You know, Thalia, we might have temporarily stalled the war, but let's face it, it's like trying to stop a herd of caffeinated unicorns. It's going to happen, eventually."

Thalia chuckled.

"Oh, Ruben, you and your imaginative metaphors. Caffeinated unicorns, really? But you're right. Despite our best efforts, the supernatural world seems determined to plunge into chaos. Our job is to make sure we're on the right side of things."

As their banter continued, a sudden commotion erupted, drawing their attention. They exchanged puzzled glances before following the sound to its source, and there they found Councilman Magnus, his face red with anger and his voice booming through the hallways.

"Where have you been all this time, Magnus?" Thalia's voice held a teasing note as she stepped forward. "Did you get lost on the way to the council meeting? Or maybe you were just catching up on some beauty sleep?"

Ruben suppressed a snicker.

"Yes, Magnus, we were thinking you'd taken up a career as a professional hide-and-seek player. You really had us worried."

Magnus's fury was clear, but he remained composed despite their jests. "Silence!" he thundered, raising a hand to command their attention. "I am here to take control of the council and bring order to this chaotic mess."

Thalia's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Control of the council? Well, that's a recent development. Did you just wake up one day and think, 'You know what? I'd look great sitting in the big chair.'"

"Oh, Thalia, don't be so hard on Magnus. Maybe he's just embracing his inner dictator. The world needs more charismatic rulers, right?"

Magnus's face contorted with anger, his patience clearly wearing thin. "You two do not know what's at stake here. The council has been compromised," he stated ominously. "And I am here to restore order and bring justice."

Thalia's brows furrowed in confusion. "Compromised? By whom? What are you talking about?"

Ruben's hand instinctively reached for the hilt of his blade as he sensed danger looming in Magnus's words and demeanour. "Magnus, we need to know the truth. You missed a very important trial. Now here you are talking about a coup."

A bitter smile crept across Magnus's lips, sending a chill down Thalia's spine. "Alpha Hawk did whatever I told him to do," he declared, his voice filled with a newfound fervour.

Thalia's eyes widened in shock, and her voice was laced with disbelief. "You betrayed us?"

Ruben's grip on his blade tightened, his eyes narrowing at Magnus. "How could you do this to us? We trusted you!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with a mix of anger and hurt.

Magnus's eyes gleamed with a twisted sense of righteousness. "You know nothing of true power, Thalia. I have discovered a path that leads to ultimate strength and dominance. Alpha Hawk was merely a steppingstone in my quest for greatness," he sneered, his words dripping with arrogance. Thalia's heart sank as she realised the extent of Magnus's betrayal; her faith in him was shattered in an instant.

Ruben's grip tightened around his weapon, his voice resonating with determination. "We won't let you betray our kind. We will stand against you and protect our own."

But before Thalia could utter another word, Magnus's expression hardened, his voice dripping with malice. "Guards! Arrest them!" he bellowed, pointing accusingly at Thalia and Ruben.

In an instant, a group of council guards emerged from the shadows, their faces twisted with grim determination. Thalia and Ruben found themselves outnumbered, and their capture was inevitable. They exchanged a resigned glance, knowing that their fight had taken an unexpected turn.

Thalia and Ruben had their hands tied and their freedom taken away. They were then thrown into the cold, damp dungeons of the council. The loud clang of the heavy metal door echoed through the room, sealing their fate for now.

"Hawk!" Magnus called out, his voice carrying a mix of command and satisfaction. "Prepare for the impending attacks. Our time is nigh."

Thalia's eyes widened in disbelief as Alpha Hawk stepped out from the shadows, his presence casting an ominous aura. Their captor and their primary suspect were now in the league.

Thalia and Ruben gave each other a knowing look as Hawk was led out of the dungeons. Their path had taken a turn they hadn't expected, sending them deeper into darkness. Now that the stakes were higher, the truth they were looking for seemed harder to find than ever.

Max's heart raced as he navigated through the dense forest, his senses heightened by the anticipation of finding Kylie. He had been away for what felt like an eternity, searching for answers and gathering information to help them in their quest. But now he longed to see her, to feel the warmth of her presence, and to assure himself that she was safe.

As he neared the clearing where he had last seen Kylie with her brothers, a surge of relief washed over him. There she was, standing amidst the dappled moonlight, engaged in a conversation with her siblings. Max approached them, his steps cautious yet filled with eagerness.

Kylie's brothers noticed his arrival and exchanged knowing glances before taking their leave. They understood the connection between Max and Kylie, recognising the depth of their feelings for each other. With promises to search for clues about Selena, they disappeared into the depths of the forest, leaving Max and Kylie alone.

Max's eyes were fixed on Kylie, and his heart was swelling with a mixture of joy and concern. He couldn't help but notice the exhaustion etched upon her face and the weariness in her eyes. He stepped closer, his voice filled with tenderness as he asked, "Kylie, how are you feeling? You've been through so much."

Kylie turned to face him, her gaze meeting his with a mixture of gratitude and vulnerability. She released a sigh, her voice carrying a hint of fatigue. "I've been sleeping a lot," she admitted softly. "But I'm glad you're back. I feel a sense of comfort and security knowing you're here with me."

Max's heart swelled with tenderness at her words. Despite her weariness, she had found solace in his return and knowing that he would be by her side. He wanted nothing more than to ease her burdens and be her guiding light amid darkness.

A gentle smile graced Max's lips as he reached out, his fingers brushing against Kylie's cheek in a gesture of affection. "I'm here for you, Kylie," he whispered, his voice filled with sincerity. "Always. We're in this together."

Kylie's eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she leant into his touch, finding solace in his embrace. The weight of their shared destiny had been lightened, if only for a moment, by the assurance of their love.

Just as the evening sky darkened, Max's gaze shifted towards the horizon. The moon, with its silvery glow, was on the cusp of rising. He knew what this meant for Kylie—her first transformation into a wolf.

"Kylie," Max said gently, his voice carrying a mixture of awe and reassurance, "the moon is about to rise. It's time for your first turn. Know that I'll be right beside you, guiding you every step of the way."

Kylie's breath caught in her throat as she realised the magnitude of the moment. The anticipation and nerves intertwined within her, but Max by her side provided her with an unwavering sense of strength and security.

She turned to him, her eyes filled with a mixture of trepidation and trust. "Thank you, Max," she murmured, her voice filled with a vulnerability she had reserved only for him. "I couldn't imagine going through this without you."

Max's gaze met hers, his eyes brimming with unwavering love and devotion. "I would do anything for you, Kylie," he replied softly.

As the moon began its ascent, casting its ethereal glow upon the world, Max and Kylie positioned themselves in a secluded part of the forest. They stood facing each other, their hands intertwined, their hearts beating in synchrony.

With bated breath, Kylie closed her eyes, embracing the transformation that awaited her. She felt a surge of energy coursing through her veins as her body underwent a metamorphosis. Bones shifted, muscles transformed, and the essence of her being took on a new, awe-inspiring form.

Max marvelled as Kylie's human facade vanished and a magnificent she-wolf appeared in its place. He marvelled at the grace and power she exuded, her presence captivating him like the moonlight itself. He had seen this transformation countless times before, but witnessing it with Kylie was an entirely new experience—one that filled his heart with an indescribable joy.

As the moon rose higher in the night sky, Max and Kylie ventured into the moonlit wilderness together, their souls entwined. Max served as Kylie's guide, leading her through the intricacies of her newfound senses and abilities. He revelled in the beauty of her grace as she bounded through the undergrowth, her fur shimmering under the moon's watchful gaze.

"Kylie, you are beautiful." Max said to the brown wolf. His own wolf was itching to come out and claim his mate.
