Selena's heart pounded in her chest as she stood frozen, staring at Cayden in captivity. The shock of seeing him like this shattered the last fragments of her composure. She had resigned herself to her fate, agreeing to her father's terms to mate with Magnus, all to save Cayden. But now, seeing him in chains, her desperation gave way to anger and a surge of defiance.
In a moment of reckless bravery, she screamed his name and ran towards Cayden, determined to free him from his restraints and bring him to safety.
But before Selena could even reach him, the guards sprang into action, moving with unexpected speed and precision. Grabbing her arms and pinning her down with a firm grip. despite her fierce resistance, her screams and thrashing were futile against their overwhelming strength.
"Cayden! No, let him go! Please!" Selena's voice was hoarse with emotion as she continued to struggle, tears streaming down her face. Her heart ached at the sight of Cayden, bound and unable to escape.
One of the guards sneered, tightening his grip on her wrists. "You should have thought twice before attempting such a foolish rescue," he mocked. "Your little display of bravery will cost you dearly."
Selena's breath came in ragged gasps, but she refused to give up. Her love for Cayden fueled her determination, and she locked eyes with him, silently pleading for him to stay strong. She could see the pain and concern in his eyes, yet there was a glimmer of hope, a silent reassurance that they were not alone in this struggle.
As Selena's struggle against her captors intensified, the telepathic connection she shared with Cayden became a lifeline in the midst of chaos. His urgent voice echoed in her mind, urging her to listen and trust him.
"Selena, listen to me," he said urgently. "You must go along with the ceremony. I am here to rescue you, but we need to play along for now."
Cayden, why did you come here?" She replied back. "Magnus will kill you." Cayden's voice resonated with determination as he reassured Selena, "I couldn't let you face this alone, Selena. I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe, even if it means risking my own life. I have a plan, so please trust me."
She had to make a difficult choice: to act against her instincts and go along with the ceremony, all the while praying that Cayden's rescue plan would come to fruition.
Suppressing her outbursts, Selena masked her true emotions, putting on a façade of acceptance and compliance. The guards, oblivious to the unspoken communication between the two mates, tightened their hold on her, mistaking her silence for submission.
Inside her mind, Selena communicated with Cayden. "I trust you," she projected, hoping her unwavering faith in him would be conveyed through their bond.
Cayden's response was filled with determination and love. "Stay strong, my love. We will be free soon, I promise," he assured her.
A sinister smile twisted across Magnus' face as he watched Selena's futile struggles. Her lover, Cayden, was his prisoner, and she was powerless to resist the wicked ceremony he had planned. He relished the sight of her desperation, knowing that he held the upper hand.
"Poor Selena," Magnus taunted, his voice dripping with smug satisfaction. "Your so-called mate is under my control now. You should have thought twice before defying me."
In the dimly lit chamber, Magnus stood tall and imposing, his eyes fixed on Selena's futile struggles. The sinister grin on his face betrayed his smug satisfaction as he gloated over the Alpha's Luna, now bound and powerless. Her mate, Cayden, was his captive, and there was nothing Selena could do to resist the twisted ceremony he had planned.
"Poor Selena!" Magnus taunted, his voice dripping with venomous delight. "It seems your precious mate failed to protect you from my grasp. Quite disappointing, don't you think?"
Selena's eyes burned with defiance, but her hands were tightly bound, rendering her attempts to fight back fruitless. She glared at Magnus, refusing to let fear show, even as her heart pounded in her chest.
With every ounce of strength she had left, Selena mustered a defiant smile and said, "You may have us trapped for now, Magnus, but we are already mated." She flipped aside her dress neckline to reveal Cayden's bite mark. The blood had dried around it, and the mark served as a symbol of their unbreakable bond. "If you kill him, I will die with him."
A flicker of uncertainty crossed Magnus's face, but he laughed.
"Selena, you're such a sweetheart. How could I let you die? Before I kill Cayden, I will mate and mark you. He should see another man take his woman. Your bond with Cayden will be broken once I have marked you."
Selena's eyes widened in horror at Magnus' words. She knew that mating and marking with another man would sever her bond with Cayden forever. The thought of losing him filled her with a deep sense of despair. Her eyes burned with anger.
Turning his attention to Hawk, Magnus praised his ally. "Well done, Hawk. Your plan to capture Cayden was executed perfectly. Now, I'll have the pleasure of witnessing this 'powerful' Alpha beg for mercy."
Hawk grinned wickedly, basking in the praise. "Oh, Magnus, I knew you'd enjoy this. And it's just the beginning. Selena's submission will break Cayden's spirit, just like his mother submitted to me."
Magnus's face twisted into a cruel smile as he relished the thought of Cayden's defeat. Neither of them noticed that Cayden's flimsy chains were unlocked. David had never secured them.
Cayden's voice echoed through Selena's mind again, his words telepathically reaching Selena's mind. "Stay strong," he whispered. "We'll find a way out of this together. Don't let them see your fear."
Despite the danger, Selena found solace in Cayden's words. She suppressed her rage and acted normally, masking her true feelings.
Magnus smirked, enjoying the display of submission from the once defiant Luna. "Ah, that's better," he sneered. "A proper display of respect for your new Alpha. Isn't that right, my dear?"
With a venomous glint in her eyes, Selena mustered a dark humour amidst the tension. "Oh, how could I not be thrilled? My heart overflows with joy," she replied sarcastically.
Her response only seemed to amuse Magnus further, who found her defiance entertaining. "Such spirit, my dear. But let's see how long that spirit lasts. Once this ceremony is complete, you will scream for me, Selena. Stop holding them back, and I will let you rest for a while, once I have had my fun, of course. Make this easier on yourself and give into the pain." Magnus jeered.
"How about you go fuck yourself?" Selena said tiredly.
"You think this is funny?" Magnus asked. Magnus got up and walked towards Selena.
"Enough! Let's begin the ceremony. I am done with her tantrums." Holding her wrist, he dragged her towards a sacred circle created in the centre of the council hall. The frail elderly man looked on fearfully and mumbled sacred words that were said during a mating ceremony.
"Let me go!" Selena screamed while trying to get out of Magnus's grip.
A powerful blast rocked the council hall. Debris flew everywhere, causing chaos and panic among the council members. The blast seemed to come from outside, shaking the foundation of the building and sending everyone into a state of shock.
In that moment of chaos, Cayden broke free. Ignoring the pain and the odds stacked against him, he ran towards Selena, who stood amidst the smoke, her eyes widening with hope at the sight of her mate coming to her rescue.
