Situational Syncope

Jason kissed Julia back wrapping his arms around her.

Outside the ward, Dr Andesh, Peter and Mr Wellington stood a couple of distances away from the door to Jason's ward which had two guards standing on either side of it.

"So what do you think happened to him?" Mr Wellington asked.

"I think he had a case of situational syncope," Dr Andesh replied.

"Situational sync......what now?" asked Peter.

"Situational Syncope?" Dr Andesh repeated.

"What is that?" Peter asked and Mr Wellington rolled his eyes.

"Situational syncope is when a patient faints in response to a specific trigger, or a specific situation. In Jason's case, Julia was the trigger," Dr Andesh explained.

"What do you mean?" asked Peter.

"High emotional stress," Dr Andesh replied.

"Wait..." Peter was about to ask another question when Mr Wellington cut in.

"He did a love confession and got rejected," Mr Wellington chips in.

"Nice, you are learning fast," complimented Dr Andesh.

"You forget I once owned a lab," Mr Wellington replied.

Peter hearing what Mr Wellington said smiled. He was happy finally Jason had opened up and confessed his feelings for Julia.

"It will be a good idea to give them some more time together," Peter suggested with a smile.

"Yeah, but Jason needs to rest. His situation was a little different even though it was the same situation syncope," Dr Andesh informed them.

"What do you mean different?" asked Mr Wellington.

"Your son has a problem with women and he went against his usual self to accept a woman but unfortunately got rejected. That was quite contradictory to his personality and getting rejected got him angry. So his passing out was two different emotions playing out, anger and a contradictory body reaction. Situational Syncope does not last that long but in his case, it took Julia's presence to wake him," Dr Andesh explained.

"Wait! He would have remained like that if Julia had not shown up?" asked Peter surprised.

"Yes. The human body is very complex. Everyone responds differently to situations. I will need to speak with Julia," Dr Andesh said and started walking towards the entrance.

"Why?" asked Mr Wellington.

"Sir, if not we will have a problem with insomnia," Dr Andesh replied as she stopped and faced Mr Wellington.

"Very well. I am glad he is awake now. I don't want to interrupt his moment with his wife. I will leave for home. It's already late. I will see you in the morning," Mr Wellington said and turned to face Peter.

"It will be good if you also go and take care of things at the Hotel. Jason's wife is here now and she will take care of him" Mr Wellington said and Peter responded with a nod.

They all entered the elevator with different destinations in mind but Dr Andesh saw both of them off to the exit before returning to her office. She sat behind her laptop, opened Jason's electronic patient folder and prescribed some medications for his treatment. She went back up to Jason's ward to check up on Jason and also requested an audience with Julia.

Dr Andesh knocked and entered only to find both of them asleep in each other's arms. The bed had enough space for two. Jason had his arms wrapped around Julia as she laid her head on his chest. She looked at the two and smiled before exiting the ward but as soon as she closed the door, Jason opened his eyes. He was very much aware of Dr Andesh's presence in the ward but still pretended to be sleeping.

It was past 10 p.m. when Peter arrived back at the Hotel and Mr Wellington also to his hotel. Peter just walked into Paradise Hotel and ensured everything was in place. He sat behind his laptop and started working on the reports he usually works on with Jason.

Back at the most expensive and luxurious Hotel, Mr Wellington had just entered the room from the washroom in a bathrobe and had a towel in hand which he was using to dry his hair. His phone rang and he quickly answered it.

"Speak," he said as soon as he brought the phone to his ears.

"Sir, Mrs Haward has sent someone to investigate you and your relationship with Sir Jason," the person informed him.

"Hmm, what does she have so far?" Mr Wellington asked.

"Nothing for now but the person whose service she has employed is very good with hacking into systems. He can do it without a trace or even being noticed," the person reported.

"If he wants to hack into our systems for information, let's help him," Mr Wellington said with a smile.

"Sir?" the person on the other end of the call said surprised.

"Get Steve and let him know we have a virus in our system," Mr Wellington said.

"Yes sir," replied the person at the other end of the call before the call ended.

Mr Wellington smiled and continued drying his hair as he got ready for bed. He had asked they get Steve Horn, the world's best hacker to handle Mrs Haward's man. He knew how Steve worked. Steve will not block the hacker in the system, but he will direct the hacker in the system to information he only wants the hacker to have. He intended to get Mrs Haward false information without her even realizing it.

At the Haward's apartment, at 11 p.m., Fiona had just woken up from her sleep. She held her head in pain as she was getting an extreme headache. James was sitting on the sofa with his ankle resting on his knee watching her with a glass of red wine in hand. He emptied the glass and placed it on the table right next to the sofa, got up from the seat and walked towards the bed.

"Are you alright?" James asked sounding very calm.

Fiona brought her hands down a little and scanned her environment but she could not tell where she was nor could she recall what happened and how she got to where she was. She lifted her head and saw a man walking towards her. She stared at him confusedly trying to remember who he was as he looked familiar to her.

"Hey, how are you feeling," James said and tried to touch her but she flinched. "Hey, hey, calm down I am not going to hurt you," he said calmly to her knowing exactly what was happening to her.

James slowly moved his hands towards Fiona and she looked at him and his hand with a frown but allowed him to touch her. He sat on the bed next to her and looked her in the eyes.

"Where am I?" Fiona asked in a very low and weak voice.

"You are in my home. What is the last thing you remember," James asked looking at her carefully.

Fiona searched her memory but got nothing. After trying several times to remember something but failing, she shook her head in defeat.

"I don't remember anything," Fiona said and turned to scan the entire room sitting on the bed again.

"You don't recall falling in the bathroom?" James asked and Fiona shook her head in a no.

"Who are you?" Fiona asked resting her gaze on him.

"I am James Haward, your boyfriend," James introduced with a smile.

"I have a boyfriend?" Fiona asked.

"Yes, we have been dating for six months now. Do you not remember anything?" James asked and Fiona again shook her head in a no looking at James.

"You don't recall anything?" James asked pretending to be worried.

"No," Fiona replied in a low voice.

"I am calling the doctor back," James said and fetched his phone from his pocket and called Mori.

"Hello, please come back. She is awake but can't seem to remember anything," James reported and Fiona looked at him still trying to recall who he was or where she had seen his face before.

"The doctor will be here soon. You will be fine okay," James said to her sitting on the bed after he had ended the call.

In a few minutes, a knock was heard and James got up and opened the door letting Mori in.

"Hello, I am Dr Mori, how are you feeling now," Mori introduced as soon as she was standing close to Fiona's bed.

"My head aches," Fiona reported.

"Hmmm," Mori said as she flashed some light into Fiona's eyes.

"Do you feel anything else aside from the headache?" Mori asked.

"Who am I?" Fiona asked and Mori was surprised.

James smiled inwardly thinking Mori was just acting.

"You don't remember who you are?" Mori asked surprised and Fiona shook her head in a 'no'. "You don't even remember your name?" she asked and Fiona shook her head in a 'no', surprising Mori.

"What is happening? She was only supposed to forget what happened in the last 24 hours," Mori thought.

"Fiona, Vera, do they sound familiar to you?" Mori asked.

"Are they my friends?" Fiona asked and Mori frowned deeply.

"That is fine. I will speak with him and prescribe you some medications," Mori said getting up from the bed and pulling James out with her.

Right in front of the door, she spoke in a low voice that only James could hear.

"Something is wrong. She had lost her entire memory," Mori informed James.

"That sounds like good news to me," James said with a smile.

"You do forget, her friend Vera has the video and it is only through her we can get it. How do we do that if she can't even remember her name," Mori asked making James raise his brow.

"O dear, I am screwed," James said looking at the door.
