James in Action
Back in the living room, Mrs Haward, Mori and James were celebrating Jason losing the Hotel with drinks in hand.
The noise of their celebration went straight to Fiona's room and she decided to come out of her room. She wanted to know more about what was going on without asking.
"James," Fiona called out as she took slow steps towards the living room where the celebration was going on. "James," she called out again but James could not hear her amidst all the noise they were making with the clinking of glasses, laughter and loud chatting.
Fiona walked into the living room and stopped a couple of inches away from the celebrating group, eyes moving from Mori to Mrs Haward and finally resting on James who was pouring a glass of wine down his throat. Mori was first to turn to see Fiona standing just a couple of inches away from them and she frowned.
"Let's get some more drinks," James shouted and his gaze fell on Fiona. "Hey, babe, what are you doing there, I thought you were resting," he said and walked towards her.
Mrs Haward sat down on the sofa and Mori went to sit opposite her as James stopped inches away from Fiona.
"You couldn't sleep?" James asked.
"Yes," Fiona replied with a frown.
"Mum, I am going to bed," James said and led Fiona out of the living room.
"Sure, sweety," replied Mrs Haward and they both watched as James left with Fiona.
"When are we driving a stick through that?" Mori asked and Mrs Haward shifted her gaze to her.
"As soon as we have the video. She is still our ticket to that. Talking of which, what have you done so far?" Mrs Haward asked.
"I am getting someone to watch her. She already knows and will not fall for anything. We just have to wait for her to make a move when she feels safe and that will lead us to Vera," Mori said in a low voice but loud enough for Mrs Haward to hear.
"That is a good plan. I have the perfect man for the job," acknowledged Mrs Haward.
Back in Fiona's room, James after passionately kissing Fiona, decided to take a bath and continue with what he started.
Fiona searched the pocket of James' hanging jacket and found his phone. She pressed the power button and realized the phone was locked. She tried a couple of numbers in combination with letters but none unlocked the phone. She put the phone back and tried to hang the coat the way James had done but her hand hit something hard in the lower pocket. She quickly checked what it was.
"My phone," Fiona thought.
Still squatting in front of the chair she turned on the phone and put in her password. The phone unlocked making her smile.
She quickly typed and sent a message to Vera.
Find Jason Haward, they know everything and they are out to get you.
She clicked send and watched the screen waiting. The message 'Sent' flashed on the screen and a delivery notification showed on the phone. She smiled deleted the message and turned the phone off putting it back where she took it. She stood up and turned to walk to the bed only to come face to face with James. He smiled wickedly and started clapping.
"You know, you deserve an Oscar award for a great and brilliant performance. I will give it to you, you have a great talent for acting. I believe you lost your memory for real," James said.
"And you thought you could take advantage of me," Fiona retorted.
"And you thought you could fool me, James Haward," James scoffed.
"O but I did," Fiona said with a sinister smile.
"I am James Haward. I know the juggle better than you," James said and turned his gaze to the door making Fiona do the same.
"Officers take her away, this woman is a drug dealer," James said and turned his gaze back to Fiona who was utterly surprised.
"I am not a drug dealer. I am a well-known journalist," Fiona defended.
"You are under arrest Ms Fiona, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have a right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you," the officer read her rights to her as they put a handcuff on her.
"I am not a drug dealer," Fiona shouted.
The noise in the room brought Mrs Haward and Mori to Fiona's room.
"What is going on?" asked Mrs Haward seeing the two officers inside Fiona's room, with Fiona in a handcuff and James wearing just a bathrobe.
"We have reason to believe this woman here is using drugs," reported the officer to the surprise of Mori and Mrs Haward.
"Drugs in my house, how dare you," Mrs Haward said and it was followed by a slap across Fiona's face.
"Get her out of my house," yelled Mrs Haward.
"I am not a drug dealer. I don't do drugs," Fiona cried as they dragged her out of the room. "I am a well-known journalist," she repeated.
"I thought you lost your memory. O, my God, you were fooling us?" asked Mori who acted surprised.
Fiona went silent realizing she was now in a complicated situation. She knew the Hawards had the power to do whatever they wanted and this was just a display of their power. She prayed Vera would act fast. The servants were all out of their rooms due to the noise coming out of Fiona's room. The officers took Fiona out of the house.
"Get back to your rooms," shouted Mrs Hawards and all the servants quickly fled the scene.
"James, what are you not telling us, Fiona is doing drugs?" asked Mori.
"No, she isn't, I made that up. It was my escape plan. I thought she was good," James said.
"And you call the police on her?" asked Mori
"Remember the doctor friend I brought to have her check after you all abandoned me?" James began. "I paid him to get me a report that says she was using drugs and I used that to report her to the police. That is what I did today," he said.
"My boy is smart but wait I thought you were taking advantage of the situation. When did you find out she was faking her memory loss?" asked Mori curiously.
"I saw her in the bathroom destroying a phone. I knew she may have communicated with the Vera lady," James announced. "I knew it was time to use the medical report I had my doctor friend prepare," he said.
"But wait, if she requests a test, they will know she doesn't," Mori pointed out.
"Mori, I like women for my pleasure not stupid. What do you think is in the drinking water on the table? She was not careful enough. She was on guard when it comes to you but thought my waist was controlling my mind," James said.
"Well, done but you forget one tiny detail, her friend still has the video," Mori pointed out and Mrs Haward sighed.
James runs his hand through his hair twisting his lips for forgetting that detail. Mrs Haward exited the room wondering how they were going to find Vera now.
"Not stupid you say," Mori passed the comment and also exited the room leaving James standing at the entrance of Fiona's room.
Mrs Haward sat on the bed inside her room thinking of what to do now. Fiona was the ticket to find Vera and now James has just sent her to prison. They do not know who Vera is let alone how to find her. She fetched her phone and dialled a number.
"Hello, I got a job for you," Mrs Haward said as soon as the call connected.
"What do you need ma'am," the person asked.
"You know the journalist, Fiona?" Mrs Haward asked.
"Yes," the person replied.
"She was secretly working with someone, I need you to find the person," Mrs Haward requested.
"No problem, as long as you got my money, your work is done," the person assured.
"Note, Fiona is in prison," Mrs Haward informed the person and ended the call without waiting for his response.
"James, James, James, why do you keep messing things up for me?" Mrs Haward said through gritted teeth. "How long do I have to clean after you?" she asked.
Meanwhile, Vera had read Fiona's message and was ready to go look for Jason.
