Trapped by Him

Chapter 246

Ch. 244 / 398 Feb 22, 2026

In a room near the luxurious banquet hall stood a man and a woman.

"Relax," Lucas, in a light-colored suit, approached Gloria's ear and whispered.

Gloria took a small step back, yet no matter how imperceptible her movement was, Lucas still noticed keenly.

He took a few steps back gentlemanly and said with a chuckle, "Gloria, just relax."

She clenched her fists, feeling the sticky sweat in her palms. Of course, she would be nervous. The person she was about to meet was very important to the Carter Group.

"Actually, there's no need to hurry. He comes here every year for a holiday, and usually, he will be staying for a month or so." Lucas' voice was elegant and deep like a cello. "So, Gloria, you really don't need to see him right after you get off the plane."

She shook her head. Even now, her heart was still a mess.

After what happened that time, she fled without telling anyone.

Only she knew what she was running away from.

The silence went on.

"Lucas, let's go inside," Gloria said in the end, breaking the silence.

Gloria did not notice the tall and handsome Lucas staring at her intently throughout the long silence. There was nothing but her reflection in his dark eyes.

"OK," he said in his voice still deep like a cello, mixed with affection for her. He held out an arm as a gentleman, and Gloria held his arm.

It was nothing but a form of etiquette, but the moment Lucas' wrist was held, his lips curved into a smile. He gestured to the waiters on both sides, who opened the door for him and Gloria.

The door opened, and music came to their ears. A gentle but dazzling light poured out on the man and woman who had arrived.

Their sudden appearance attracted the attention of everyone at the party.

Gloria smiled, feeling that Lucas beside her was too dazzling, which was the reason why they had attracted so much attention.

People's gazes fell on him, affectionate and burning. But to Lucas, it was an important moment to engrave in his memory.

He looked down at Gloria beside him. From his angle, he could see the top of her head and her hair looked soft. From the moment she held his wrist, he felt as if something had filled his heart, which had been empty for so long.

He thought, 'If only this moment could last forever.'

"You look great today. I like the way you keep your hair today." For the first time, Lucas felt that he was short on words.

"Stop joking, Lucas. Will you believe me if I tell you that I'm nervous?" Gloria said softly.

Lucas smiled. He said in his heart, 'I'm not joking.'

There was a sudden commotion at the corner in front of them.

"Come on. Let's go there." Lucas led Gloria over.

"Wait." She was still nervous, and her palms were covered by another layer of sweat. "Is that Mr. Joseph over there?"

"No. Heath has always been mysterious. This is his secretary-general, Klein," Lucas explained patiently.

She was surprised for a moment and took a look at the crowd again, and then she was even more shocked.

Everyone knew that Heath had always been mysterious, and it made sense that he wouldn't attend such a banquet.

She was surprised to know that the man over there was just Heath's secretary-general. She thought, 'A secretary-general is already able to attract the attention of so many political and business celebrities? That's so shocking.'

Gloria lowered her head. After a while, she raised her head and looked at Lucas beside her. "Lucas, thank you."

Lucas said calmly, "It's nothing. I'm just a referrer. It's up to you whether you get help from Heath or not."

She breathed a sigh of relief and then smiled, "Still, thanks."

"Let's go. I'll take you to Heath." He pulled her into the crowd, and everyone made way for them as they passed through.

"Hello, Lucas." As soon as they reached Klein, the well-dressed man caught sight of Lucas and came over to greet him.

Gloria was surprised. She looked sideways, and Lucas gave her a reassuring smile. He said, "Don't be nervous. I'm right here with you."

"Mr. Joseph is already waiting for you in the guest room upstairs." Klein politely retreated a step. With one hand in front of him, he bowed slightly to make way.

Gloria followed Lucas to the elevator and went to the floor where Heath was.

"Please wait here for a second while I go in and inform Mr. Joseph," Klein said politely.

Not long after, he walked out and invited them in.

Gloria was nervous. The last time she was this nervous was when she first stepped into the business world.

She suddenly felt her palm tighten. She looked down and saw that Lucas was holding her hand. She felt as if she had been scalded, and she wanted to withdraw her hand. However, the moment she wanted to do so, rationality got the upper hand.

She raised her head and smiled at him, "I can make it. Don't worry." Then she looked down, and her gaze fell on the two clasped hands.

Lucas was considerate and let go of her hand.

At the same time, they heard a gentle and enthusiastic voice. "Lucas, is this your Venus?"

The moment Gloria raised her head, her hand that was about to be released was clenched tightly again. Lucas' deep voice came from above her head. He said, "Well. She is my queen."

The smile on Gloria's face instantly froze. "Lucas, it's not funny," she whispered to Lucas beside her.

Lucas smiled and slowly explained to the surprised Heath, who was opposite them, "I was just joking."

Lucas then introduced them, "Gloria, the CEO of Carter Group. Heath, the founder of Damen Group in France."

"Hello, Heath," Gloria smiled elegantly.

"Hello, beautiful lady. I'm Heath."

Lucas let go of Gloria's hand. "You guys talk. I'll go get a drink."

After that, he went to the bar counter at the corner, poured himself a glass, and said to Klein, "A drink?"

The meeting lasted for nearly an hour.

Meanwhile, Lucas had been sitting quietly at the corner bar drinking and chatting with Klein.

It was not until Gloria walked out of the door that Lucas gracefully put down the glass in his hand and stood up.

"Let's go. You've traveled a long way. You must be tired. Shall I walk you back to your room?" said Lucas tenderly.

"Lucas, wait a minute. It has been so long since the last time I saw you. Don't you want to have a drink with me?" Heath leaned against the glass door and looked over with a smile.

Gloria felt relieved. She hurriedly said, "I'll get out of your hair now. I'm leaving."

Naturally, Lucas captured her reaction keenly. His deep eyes became dim. Since he was a smart man, he did not insist on sending Gloria away. "Alright."

Lucas turned around and smiled at Heath, who was leaning against the door, "It's late, and no gentleman should let a lady leave on her own." As he spoke, he glanced at Klein from the corner of his eye. He said subtly, "Can your secretary-general do me a favor?"

Heath was very tactful. He said to Klein beside him, "Escort Gloria back to the guest room. Make sure she gets back safely."

"Yes, Mr. Joseph," Klein said and left.
