Trapped by Him

Chapter 271

Ch. 269 / 398 Feb 22, 2026

Patrick paused. The next second, he reached out to cover her eyes and then kissed the back of his hand over them. "You mean a lot to me," he said silently.

"Gloria, don't think about running away again. For the rest of your life, you're bound to be with me. You can't get away without my permission."

He had already lost his mind.

He felt bad for her, yet such a feeling was surpassed by his longing to keep her with him.

After everything was over, she said, "I hate you."

He closed his eyes. When he opened them, he suppressed the pain in them and said, pretending that he didn't care, "Whatever."

He thought, 'You can hate me. Even though you want to hate me, I'm the only one you are going to hate.

I don't care about anything else, as long as I'm the only one in your world. You may choose to love me or hate me as you want.'

It was just that the moment she said she hated him, he felt his heartache killing him.

The day of Harry's bone marrow transplantation was approaching.

He had changed into a surgical gown, and Camille was with him.

"Harry, don't be nervous. It will be fine," Camille comforted, while Harry remained silent.

Looking at Harry's thin face, Camille scolded Gloria silently.

"We are lucky to find a match. Otherwise, you would have died because of Gloria."

Harry seemed to be annoyed. "Mom! Shut up!"

"What's wrong with you? I take your side, and I am standing out for you. Why are you yelling at me?" Camille said unhappily.

"Don't you ever talk about Gloria like that again!"

"Why not? Family means nothing to her." Camille hated Gloria.

The matter had been clarified. It was true that she had misunderstood that Gloria was not her biological daughter back then.

Yet, even so, Camille still treated Harry and Gloria differently.

After all, Harry had been raised by her side since he was a child.

On the contrary, Gloria took the Carter family's entire fortune the minute she went back to Gabbs. What was more, she begged her, yet Gloria was determined not to help Harry. In Camille's mind, Gloria was a cold-blooded person who didn't care about her family at all.

Harry's heart was a mess.

He saw the chance to live. He had got a bone marrow donor, so he didn't have to die, and he didn't have to live with the worries of dying.

He should have relaxed, but as time went by, he felt more flustered.

The medical staff had informed him that the anonymous donor was about to start donating bone marrow.

He reached out and grabbed the nurse. "Wait a minute. Can you tell me the donor's name?"

"Sorry. We don't have the donor's permission," the nurse smiled kindly. "Don't worry. Everything will be fine. Just take care of yourself."

Then she turned and left.

Harry was even more upset. Camille naturally noticed that there was something wrong with him, and she figured that he was worried.

"The nurse has told you to rest assured, right? Stop worrying. I'm here with you."

While persuading him, Camille thought of the sore spot. "Alger, that damn bastard! His son is getting surgery, and he's not even showing up. Who knows? Maybe he is with some shameless slut right now. Curse him!"

Camille swore while Harry was utterly upset. He sat up, got out of bed, and was going to go out.

"Harry, where are you going?" Camille chased after him.

Harry was walking faster and faster.

"Wait for me."

Camille grabbed her expensive backpack and chased after him.

Harry started to run, and then he bumped into the nurse. "Wait a minute! Take me there!"

He said in a low, stern voice, "Please take me to the operating room."

He looked flustered. Being grabbed, the nurse was frightened. "Let go of me. As I said, the donor doesn't want to be named."

"Please. Just take me there, OK?" Harry softened and pleaded.

The nurse was a little soft-hearted under his gaze, but she still shook her head.

Harry refused to let go. "Is the donor my sister? My sister's name is Gloria. Is she the donor?"

Harry thought, 'I'm not stupid. How could there be such a coincidence? Gloria came to see me, and I had a match the same day.

These days, I have been lying to myself, telling myself that I was wrong and that the donor was someone else.

I know how coincidental everything is.

Yet I want to live. I pretend that I know nothing. However, every night, I remember what Gloria said when she came to visit me.'

He asked Camille to bring over a locked diary. He opened the diary and saw the childish handwriting.

It was all about his childhood as well as that of Gloria.

The handwriting was very childish. And in adults' eyes, the diary content was amusing and childish.

However, it reminded him of the past.

Each entry recorded the trivial things that happened every day. Some were about his jealousy since Gloria was praised by grandpa, and some recorded the books and movies Gloria read and watched.

After reading the whole diary, he suddenly realized that the whole book was filled with every day of his childhood, while Gloria was never absent.

There was one entry. Gloria said that he blocked the knife for her and saved her from the rogues. He looked at the entry.

"Today is my happiest day because I protected my sister. I never thought protecting my sister would make me so happy. From now on, I will protect her forever."

He looked at the words that had been ruined by his tears. It was the oath he made. He said that protecting his sister would make him happy and that he would protect his sister forever. Yet later, he tossed the diary away, and he never thought about it again.

"Gloria only has one kidney. She can't donate bone marrow to me," Harry said. "Take me to her. I won't force her to donate bone marrow to me anymore."

Harry looked so haggard due to his serious illness, and there were tears in his eyes. Seeing that, the nurse was moved, and she felt pity for him.

She was about to speak.

A cold voice sounded. "At least you still remember that Gloria has been good to you, that she is your sister."

The voice was so familiar, and it spooked Harry. He looked up and said, "Patrick."

Patrick stood a few meters away and raised his chin. "Where is your ward?"

Harry wanted to answer when he suddenly remembered that there was someone who was taking the risk of donating her bone marrow to him. "Patrick, you're just in time. Gloria is going to donate bone marrow to me. Hurry up! Take her out!"

Camille was stunned.

At first, she didn't understand, but then she slowly realized what had happened.

She felt guilty, but when she looked at Harry, her haggard son, she reached out and grabbed Harry's hand. "The surgery is about to start, Harry. Stop thinking about it. Come back to the ward with me."

"No! I need to go to Gloria."

"Go to the ward. I have something to say to you," next to them, Patrick said coldly. Seeing that Harry didn't leave, he reminded Harry calmly, "I won't let Gloria take any risk."

Harry suddenly realized something. He thought, 'That's right. Patrick won't let anything happen to Gloria.'
