Another month had passed. When Sean was about to finish his business in Italy, he got into new trouble. He said that it was not a big problem, but it would take some time to handle it.
Gloria smiled and said to Sean, "I almost thought you were lying to me. In fact, you were hitting on girls in Italy and forgot everything."
Sean joked on the phone, "Hitting on girls? No. I'm surrounded by stinky men only."
"Then, try to get back soon." There was a hint of coldness in Gloria's tone.
At first, Gloria thought that her cooperation with Lucas would be ruined, but it lasted for a month. And Lucas simply disappeared from her sight.
The cooperation had moved onto the second stage.
The representatives of both sides had to meet again to discuss the specific details of the next step and confirm some details that had been discussed before.
In the afternoon, Mandy knocked on the door of the president's office and led an acquaintance in.
"Gloria, how are you?"
Before Mike came, Gloria was thinking about whether she should go to the subsidiary company under Lucas' name again for further cooperation in the project.
Unexpectedly, Mike brought a letter to her.
Gloria looked at the envelope stained with light blue lines. There was no signature or address on the cover.
She raised her head and glanced at Mike. Finally, she reached out and opened the envelope.
A letter fell from the envelope.
It read, "For Gloria."
Gloria read it silently. Then, she extended her hand toward Mike. "Do you have a lighter?"
"Why?" Mike asked as he gave her a lighter.
The flame jumped and lit the letter.
Mike's expression changed, but he did not say anything.
He looked at Gloria meaningfully. The fire left a strange light and shadow on her face, which was somewhat mysterious.
"You burned it?" Mike's deep voice sounded in the office.
"So?" Gloria asked.
Mike was stunned.
He sighed, "Women can be really heartless."
Gloria understood what he meant. She raised her head and said, "It was his idea to burn it. I agree with him."
"He is actually a good man. Believe it or not, I have never seen him fall so hard for anyone," Mike hesitated for a moment and said.
"I believe you," Gloria said calmly.
Mike did not expect her to answer without hesitation and stared at her in surprise. After a while, he looked away. "I was entrusted by him. Now that the matter is settled, I'll take my leave."
"I'll send you off." Gloria stood up.
Mike's trip ended quickly. It hadn't been ten minutes since he entered and came out. In such a short time, a one-sided affection also ended.
His arrival was like a stone thrown in a calm lake. It rippled the lake but it returned peacefully right away.
After Gloria returned to her desk, the letter on the ground had turned to ash.
She called the receptionist, "Get the cleaner to my office."
Then, she stared at the ash on the ground and was stunned for a long time. She muttered, "Lucas, I am not your Queen. I am just a living dead who has been corroded from inside, an empty shell wandering in the world."
As soon as Mike left the building of Carter Group, he mind linked Lucas. "She burned the letter."
He knew that it was Lucas's idea to burn the letter.
It was quiet on the other side of the line.
Mike added mercilessly, "She did not hesitate at all."
Lucas chuckled, "That sounds like her."
"What?"
"She will try her best to get what she wants and refuse what she doesn't want." Lucas' tone was depressed.
Mike's expression was solemn. "You know her so well. Then, why did you..."
"You are wrong." Lucas said lightly, "Only now do I know what kind of woman she is. I don't even have a chance to make up for it. But not just me, no one has a chance. How heartless she is."
Lucas said sadly, "I just understood everything at that moment."
Mike was silent. He knew that Lucas was referring to the moment Gloria burned the letter without hesitation.
Gloria and Patrick had a strange tacit understanding.
They shared the most peaceful time during this period.
There was no quarrel, no reprimand, and no blame.
Everything was at peace.
It was as if they were on a honeymoon.
Gloria did not get angry at Patrick, and Patrick was obedient. He was not like his overbearing self at all.
Every day, he prepared breakfast, and Gloria ate quietly.
Everything was perfect, so perfect that it was a little unreal.
On the weekend, Christine would come. When she saw the harmonious scene of Gloria and Patrick staying together, she was shocked. She asked, "Have you changed into a different person?"
Mandy widened her eyes in shock. "You forgive him? Gloria, he is the most unforgivable scumbag in the world, but you forgive him?"
Gloria just smiled and didn't say anything. She ignored her words and did not take them seriously.
Christine shook her head. "The high and mighty Patrick is wearing a pair of slippers with pink-blue bunnies. He puts on an apron, and cooks in the kitchen! It would shock everyone in Gabbs if someone spread the news."
Sitting on the sofa in the living room, Christine kept staring at the tall figure in the kitchen, unable to recover from the shock.
Mandy looked regretful. "It's a pity that he is not the real Patrick. If the real one could do this for Gloria..."
Before she could finish her words, Christine pulled her aside.
Mandy looked at Gloria carefully. There was a gentle smile on Gloria's face, as if she did not care what they had said.
On the weekend, they stayed with Patrick. It was sunny outside, and it was warm in the room. The coolness of winter seemed to have gone.
There was coffee on the table. Patrick had prepared it.
"Actually, Patrick is pretty good." Before leaving, Mandy said, "I hope he will still be so considerate after he gets his memories back."
Gloria smiled and said goodbye to Mandy and Christine.
She closed the door and looked at Patrick. "They think you are considerate."
Patrick smiled foolishly. "Gloria, I just want you to be happy."
Gloria curled her lips into a smile. "I am happy." She added after thinking, "I am happy today."
Patrick was dissatisfied. "Just today? Gloria, I want you to be happy for the rest of your life."
"Really?" Gloria smiled.
'A lifetime is too long,' she thought.
"Gloria, I will stay by your side," Patrick said with a silly smile, "For a lifetime."
Gloria opened her mouth, but in the end, she didn't say anything. She smiled while standing at the door.
Patrick suddenly rushed over and hugged her. "I'll stay by Gloria's side for the rest of my life!"
Patrick swore solemnly in a childish tone.
Gloria seemed to be thinking of something. She reached out and patted his back gently, comforting him.
"You have to get better soon."
