"What do you mean?" Harry froze.
Gloria turned and was about to leave. Harry grabbed her arm hurriedly. "Did you find a donor?"
He stared at Gloria, so nervous that his heart beat quickly.
Gloria looked down at Harry and saw anticipation and hope in his eyes.
Her lips curled into a gentle and bright smile. "Yes, I found one. Harry, you will be fine."
Harry was stunned. Gloria looked over her shoulder with a faint smile, and that smile would be stuck in his mind for the rest of his life.
"Harry, live a good life."
After that, Gloria closed the door.
Harry didn't even have time to express his gratitude.
He called Camille excitedly. "Camille, I will be OK! They found a match!"
He shared the good news with Camille with joy.
Camille could not believe what she had heard. After hesitating for seconds, she finally confirmed that she had not heard it wrongly. "Really? Who is the donor? We must thank him properly. The donor doesn't even know us, but he is willing to save your life. Gloria is so cold-blooded. I'll call her later and see what she will say about it."
Harry's sunken cheeks instantly turned red, and so did his ears. He lowered his voice in embarrassment, "Camille, don't do that. Gloria found the donor for me."
Camille was startled for a moment and was still unreasonable. "I don't care. She doesn't want to donate her marrow to you, so she would rather spend time finding a marrow donor. Do you think she is doing it for you? No! She is doing it for herself."
Harry blushed. "Camille, I'm tired. I need some rest."
Soon after, Harry's doctor came over and told Harry that he could have bone marrow transplantation surgery.
Harry hesitated. He wanted to ask who the donor was, but he didn't.
The doctor said, "You are lucky. From today on, you should begin to prepare for the operation. I will give you some antibiotics. When everything is ready, I will arrange the operation for you."
The doctor was clear about Harry's condition. He added, "I'll talk to your family about some things. As for whether the operation will be successful or not, it depends on the situation after it."
"Miss Carter, are you sure you want to donate bone marrow?" The nurse asked. She explained seriously, "The human body has the function of renewing bone marrow, but you are a bit weak. Before the surgery, the doctors will inject you with G-CSF for four to five days in a row. Then, they will extract the hematopoietic stem cell in your body. After that, some people may have a fever for one to two days. Moreover, the surgery might fail, and extracting the hematopoietic stem cell is not completely without risks. Although the risk is almost negligible, any treatment has a certain failure rate. Miss Carter, you are physically weak. Have you thought it through?"
"Yes. I will bear the consequences myself." Gloria picked up a pen and signed her name on the donation agreement.
Then, she went home. When she got home, she found a tall and straight man at the door.
She turned around subconsciously and wanted to leave, but she tried her best to suppress her desire to leave. She walked to Patrick and said, "I saw the missed calls and text messages."
Gloria said slowly without waiting for Patrick to speak.
Patrick looked into her eyes. "Is that so?" He asked, "Why didn't you answer the phone or text back?"
Under his gaze, Gloria said, "You broke the agreement. I told you that I wanted to be alone and think about it. You agreed, didn't you?"
Patrick blinked and approved it in silence.
But he didn't intend to give up. He asked, "Where have you been?"
Gloria stuffed her hand into her bag and said calmly, "I met Mandy for some coffee."
"I see." Patrick nodded.
For some reason, Gloria felt that there was a hidden meaning in his words.
She shook her head and told herself in her heart, 'Don't be guilty. At that time, he should be dealing with work at the Hammond Group. How could he know what I had done?'
"Aren't you going to invite me in?" Seeing that Gloria had not taken out the key to open the door, Patrick raised his eyebrows and asked.
Gloria pretended to be calm. "You promised to give me a private space and let me cool down for a while. Are you going to trick me again?"
Patrick narrowed his eyes. He noticed the determination in Gloria's eyes. "Alright, I'll leave you alone."
He turned and walked into the elevator. Gloria looked tense, and his low voice carried a trace of imperceptible pain. "Gloria, I just want to spend a lifetime with you."
Gloria trembled slightly and lowered her head.
Facing the closed elevator, she whispered, "A lifetime is too long. I dare not think about it."
She took out her key and stepped into the dark room. At that moment, her heart seemed to sink into the abyss of endless darkness.
Gloria knew the risk of donating bone marrow. She was much weaker than ordinary people, so she would face greater risks.
She was gambling on whether she would survive.
She did not dare to gamble on her life in the past because she still had unfinished business.
Now, the Carter Group was back on track, and her grandpa's efforts didn't go in vain.
Since the prosperity of the Carter family wasn't destroyed in front of her, Gloria didn't let her deceased grandpa down, and she lived up to his kindness.
Her grandpa said that the Carter family was Harry's.
The Carter family didn't collapse, so Harry must live.
Gloria wasn't a saint and didn't want to sacrifice herself for Harry. Therefore, she hoped to find a marrow donor for Harry more than anyone else.
Gloria closed her eyes. She thought that Patrick, who had lost his memory, was a big problem for her.
However, she enjoyed his gentleness and innocence when he acted like a child.
However, she was naïve.
Gloria said to herself, 'Patrick, you made me fall for you again but then pushed me to hell.
You said you wanted me to stay by your side for the rest of my life. You were still as selfish and paranoid as before.
You haven't changed a bit. You are still the same Patrick.
The person who cooked for me and warmed my feet was a liar!'
"Liar!" In the dark hallway, Gloria's hoarse voice sounded sad.
Patrick put on a show. In his play, she was nothing but a fool.
Gloria had done what needed to be done. She could remove the burden from her shoulders and have a good rest.
In the darkness, Gloria's eyes looked desperate and tired.
She was depleted.
