Gloria had no time to dodge. Because of Damon's slap, half of her face swelled up immediately.
She put on a sarcastic smile.
"Why are you still laughing? If not for you, how could I injure the pitiful Gabrielle accidentally and kill her?" Damon's tone became even more emotional.
Gloria almost burst into tears from laughing.
"Did I instigate you or threaten you to kill her? You killed Gabrielle out of selfishness. It's a fact!" Gloria said.
"Shut up! I had no choice but to do that! If not for the incident that night, I wouldn't have hurt Gabrielle at all. Only now do I know that she is my biological sister. It is all your fault! You caused the tragedy!" Damon roared hysterically.
Someone had swapped the two children deliberately to give the Carter family a warning. Damon didn't know the person had brought his sister back later and misunderstood for so many years. What was worse, he had just figured out the truth.
Gloria could not believe what she had heard. She looked at Damon's sinister face in disbelief. How could there be such a shameless person in the world?
"It is you! You thought that Gabrielle was not your biological sister and killed her! You blamed me for all of that and even wanted to kill me! I think you are crazy!" Gloria exposed Damon's self-deception.
"Things went wrong all because of you! If not for you, I wouldn't have done that kind of thing! Today, I will avenge my poor sister no matter what!" Damon's eyes were red, and he lost his mind.
The driver felt unlucky enough to have a car accident, yet he did not expect that he would hear such a terrifying story and kept silent.
Gloria glanced at the frightened driver whose face was pale. She narrowed her eyes and raised her head calmly. "This is downtown, and the police will be coming soon. No matter what you want to do, they will stop you."
Damon seemed to think of something, and his expression suddenly changed. He dragged Gloria out of the taxi. "You are right."
As he spoke, he dragged Gloria into the passenger seat of his car.
"I'll take you to the lake!" Damon started the SUV. The piercing sound of tires rubbing against the ground rang out as it sped off.
The car sped on the road at a terrifying speed. Other vehicles tried to avoid it and all moved aside to make way.
Gloria felt her stomach upset. She tried hard to suppress her nausea and forced herself to calm down.
"How did you know that I was in the taxi?" Gloria asked.
It was not a coincidence. Even if she knew that she was in danger right now, she did not want to die in confusion.
Probably because Damon was certain that Gloria would die today, he didn't hide anything and sneered. "Someone guarded your apartment, and the moment you went out, I got the news. It might be because you are destined to die today. Otherwise, I would have the chance to kill you. Patrick sent his men to guard outside your place, and I couldn't make a move at all. Speaking of which, I have to thank you for tricking the pack guards away."
"Who is that man?" Gloria asked.
"It is not important! You just need to know that I am not the only one who wants you to die! Someone hates you more than I do!" Damon refused to tell the truth.
Gloria's expression was grave. She could not guess who it was.
"How pitiful you are. Anyway, you will die today, and I'll tell you one more thing. Do you remember what happened that night when Leonard took you to see Alex? After Leonard sent you back, something happened to you just as he left. Have you ever thought about why it was so coincidental? Let me tell you the truth. Your family and Leonard worked together. Leonard sent you to the remote roadside, and your family hired the rogues. You are so pitiful. It is better than dying in the werewolf prison." Damon wanted to see Gloria's pitiful expression but only saw her calmness.
"Why aren't you surprised? Why aren't you sad? Cry! You should cry!" As if angered by Gloria's calm, Damon was a little deranged.
Every time he got angry, he stepped on the accelerator harder. The SUV sped on the road like an arrow.
The car was on the verge of losing control. Other cars all stopped and avoided it far away. Some people even opened the door and got out of their cars in fear.
Damon looked crazy. "I said, cry!"
Gloria turned to look at Damon coldly. "It's Harry, right?"
Her words shocked Damon, and he loosened the accelerator.
Gloria had always felt that the attack that night was tricky. She had doubts, but she failed to figure out who was behind this.
When Damon revealed that her family and Leonard were in cahoots, she knew she was right about it.
She remembered that before the accident, Harry rushed to the company and made a scene.
Gloria hoped that she was overthinking and that she was wrong about it.
Damon was infuriated by her calm attitude. The calmer she was, the more furious he became.
He couldn't bear to see her stay calm.
"When you were born, you were kidnapped. Since you are so smart, have you ever thought that you knew the kidnapper?" Damon said maliciously.
Gloria's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?"
"Can't you guess who it was? You know him, he is the same age as your grandpa, and he was capable enough to kidnap you. I also know him. Don't you get an answer?" Damon sorted out the clues for Gloria.
Gloria gritted her teeth, not daring to think about it.
"It was Alex, Patrick's grandpa!" After Gabrielle's accident, Damon overheard it. Afraid that he would be discovered, he only heard several sentences.
Gloria was in great shock.
She thought, 'What does Damon mean?
If what he said was true, why did grandpa allow me to get close to Patrick?
Why did grandpa never tell me about it?'
When Camille tried to persuade Gloria to donate bone marrow, she mentioned that Gloria had once been kidnapped when she was born. She explained that it was because someone couldn't bear to see Gloria's grandpa's success in business.
However, the Hammond family was so powerful, and the Carter family couldn't compete with it at all. How could Alex take a fancy to the Carter family? If there was enmity between the two families, it wouldn't be because of the company and the pack.
Gloria remembered her grandpa's strange attitude toward her pursuing Patrick.
She also recalled the disgust in Alex's eyes every time she met him.
Her grandpa had once tried to persuade her to give up on Patrick and told her that it was not worth it. But his persuasion was superficial, and he even encouraged her and supported her to some extent.
Only then did Gloria realize that her grandpa had helped improve her relationship with Patrick many times. He gave her a chance to stay alone with Patrick, and he held a birthday party for her.
At her eighteenth birthday party, her grandpa said, "You are eighteen years old now, and you have grown up. You can pursue the one you love."
Gloria thought that it was right and was encouraged, so she confessed her affection to Patrick in front of everyone at the birthday party.
She was confident. She was told that she was the most outstanding daughter of the Carter family...
Gloria did not dare to recall more details.
