Trapped by Him

Chapter 243

Ch. 241 / 398 Feb 22, 2026

Gloria looked at Lillian meaningfully.

"You threaten me with the Carter Group?"

"Gloria, sue me. By then, the whole world will know that the Carter Group is an empty shell. You will lose everything. Then, can you still question me with such an attitude?" Lillian hated Gloria so much.

She thought with hatred, 'Gloria had once been so humble, yet she lived a better life than me after three years!

She is so low and cheap. How can she surpass me?'

"You are actually good at nothing! You inherited your father's property. Everything you own belonged to your family, and you robbed it from them. Gloria, you are not only lowly but also vicious. You don't even let go of your family!" The more Lillian spoke, the more emotional she became.

Dexter's hand was trembling, and he slapped Lillian. "What nonsense are you talking about? Miss Carter has said that she wouldn't pursue the matter. Why are you still making a scene?"

Lillian suddenly went mad and glared at the bald man. "Do you think you are better than her? You also looked down on her and said that she was ruthless and didn't even let her family off!"

Dexter's face turned pale. He looked at Gloria and explained hurriedly, "Miss Carter, I didn't..."

"Don't deny it. Just admit it since you said so. At least I am braver than you. I admit what I did! Do you dare?" Lillian looked fearless.

"Gloria, do you know what the employees address you behind your back? Black Widow! I forgot. You were in prison for three years and have not graduated from university. How can you know what Black Widow means? Do you want me to explain it to you?" Lillian laughed arrogantly and shouted with all her strength.

Gloria looked at Lillian's angry face calmly. She had not been angry because of Lillian in the past, and she would not be angry now.

"Have you said enough?" Gloria asked. Lillian's chest heaved up and down out of anger.

"Lillian, do you know why I was willing to let go of you just now?" Gloria looked up at Lillian.

Lillian did not know why. She straightened her neck, her veins bulging.

"I know," Gloria sighed.

Lillian glared fiercely at her. "I don't need you to pity me! Stop pretending!"

Gloria said calmly, "Lillian, I didn't ask you about the details of the leak, nor did I ask whether you had done it intentionally or not. Do you know why? If you wanted to ruin the Carter Group, you could have told the media. This way, everyone would have known the problem of the Carter Group."

Gloria's eyes were clear. "But until now, only Lucas knew about it."

She had thought it through while she was at the company.

The news was like a letter with wings. If someone wanted to spread it, everyone would know.

"Lillian, why? You didn't even defend yourself. Was it just because you hate me?" Gloria sighed.

Lillian was shocked. She bit her lips and glared at Gloria. "I hate you very much! I have never hated someone as much as I hated you. But I am not crazy! Thousands of families rely on the Carter Group. I will not let so many lose their jobs because of my selfish desires."

Gloria looked at Lillian for a long time and suddenly laughed. She reached out and pushed Lillian away. "I have to admit that, after all, you are not a terrible person."

She raised her hand and glanced at her watch. "It's getting late. I'll leave now."

Dexter stood aside and was still scared. "Miss Carter, as for what I said before..."

"Alright," Gloria interrupted Dexter. The moment she spoke, Dexter's face turned pale.

"You said those things about me." Gloria said calmly, "This month's bonus will be deducted even if you admit your mistakes."

After that, Gloria opened the door. "Lillian, although I forgive you, you can't stay in the Carter Group. Just continue to hate me."

She walked out and turned to look inside. "Marry an upright man and live a good life."

On her face, there was a high and mighty look that Lillian hated the most. "I allow you to hate me until the day I die."

Lillian stared blankly at Gloria, who was limping away.

After a long while, she finally reacted.

"Dexter, what did she mean?" Lillian stomped her feet angrily. "I hate her self-righteous charity! Sue me! I'm not afraid!"

When Gloria returned home, it was three o'clock in the early morning.

Out of habit, she put on the fluffy slippers with a pink rabbit on them. Patrick had asked to buy them, and it was warm.

She was a little surprised because the living room was dark.

Was Patrick asleep?

Gloria pressed the switch to the light. In an instant, there was a warm light in the room.

She looked around the living room. No one was there.

So she hurried to the balcony.

A specialized telescope was placed there. Patrick used it to wait for her to get off work.

Gloria was in a panic. She turned around and went to the bedroom anxiously. When she turned on the light and saw Patrick, she heaved a sigh of relief.

She squatted down at the place where Patrick was lying.

Patrick wrapped himself in the quilt, and only his messy hair could be seen. If Gloria ignored who he really was and didn't look at his face, she would feel that he was somehow cute.

It was said that one curled into a ball to sleep when he felt insecure.

Did Patrick feel insecure?

Gloria found it funny and shook her head.

She couldn't figure out why Patrick would feel insecure.

Patrick seemed to be awakened. He moved, opened his sleepy eyes, and rubbed them. He said in a childish tone, "Gloria, you're back. I made oatmeal and put it in a thermos. I'll get them for you."

Perhaps because Gloria was hungry, or perhaps because the light was warm, Gloria's expression softened. She did not refuse him and said, "OK."

Patrick threw his quilt and ran to the living room.

Gloria ate the oatmeal silently. Patrick watched her eat and she was her whole world now.
