Zoya's P.O.V
"Ezra," I began, my voice steady yet laced with emotion, "no matter the circumstances, I wouldn't have let anyone else in. But I did for you, didn’t I? I let you in."
His eyes held mine, relief and understanding washing over him like a merciful tidal wave.
It was as if my words had unlocked something within him, a realization that we were bound by a love that was unbreakable.
He had been my constant, my rock through all the challenges and obstacles life had thrown our way. And I wanted him to know that.
"You've been my unwavering support," I continued, my voice filled with gratitude. "You've been by my side through everything, from my lowest moments to my greatest triumphs. You helped me heal, you helped me grow, and you showed me what it truly means to be loved."
A soft smile played at the corners of his lips, his gaze never leaving mine.
I leaned in closer, our foreheads touching as I closed my eyes for a moment, savoring the closeness between us. "I used to think that being transferred to this clinic in the middle of nowhere was my worst punishment," I admitted, my words tinged with a hint of humor. "But now, looking back, I realize it was a blessing in disguise. It led me to you, Ezra. It led me to a love that I never could have imagined."
As I opened my eyes, I found his gaze filled with a mixture of tenderness and adoration.
Our journey had been filled with twists and turns, challenges and triumphs, but in that moment, everything seemed to align.
I felt a warmth spread through my chest as I continued speaking, the weight of my emotions lifting with every word. "Ezra, you gave me the strength to stand up against my parents," I confessed, my voice growing softer yet resolute. "You made me believe that I was enough, that I didn't have to constantly fight for their approval. You showed me my self-worth, and you've been my pillar of support through it all."
His eyes, so full of understanding and love, locked onto mine as my words hung in the air between us. I could see the impact of my words, the realization of just how deeply intertwined our lives had become.
Moved by my confession, Ezra leaned in, his lips brushing against mine in a gentle, tender kiss.
It was a kiss filled with unspoken apologies and promises, a silent reassurance that we were in this together, no matter what challenges lay ahead.
When our lips parted, his forehead came to rest against mine, his warm breath mingling with mine. "Zoya," he whispered, his voice carrying a depth of emotion that resonated in my heart. And even though his voice trailed off, I immediately understood what he wanted to say to me.
I cupped his face in my hands, my thumbs brushing over his cheekbones as I met his gaze. "I love you, Ezra," I said softly, my words a declaration of the depth of my feelings for him. "And I know we'll face uncertainties and doubts, but as long as we have each other, we'll overcome anything."
A small, genuine smile graced his lips, his eyes shining with all the brightness of genuine gratitude and affection. "I'm sorry for doubting you," he said sincerely, his hand coming up to cover mine. "I should have trusted in our love, in the bond we share."
I leaned in to press another soft kiss against his lips, pouring all my feelings into that single gesture. "It's okay," I whispered against his mouth, my breath mingling with his. "We're learning and growing together. That's what makes our love stronger."
"I never thought I could move on from Lily," he confessed, his gaze fixed on me as if I held the key to his heart. "But you, Zoya, you've shown me the beauty in living life anew, in embracing the future instead of clinging to the past."
I reached out and intertwined my fingers with his, our hands fitting together naturally, like pieces of a puzzle that had finally found their match. He brought our entwined hands up and pressed his lips to the back of mine.
"And now," he continued, his tone filled with a mixture of hope and longing, "I wait for the days when I can hold our child in my hands, to share in the joy of raising a family together."
I chuckled softly at his words, feeling a sense of warmth and contentment settle over us. "You know," I teased, my voice soft, "it almost feels like we're reciting our wedding vows right now."
Ezra's smile widened, and he brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, his touch feather-light against my skin. "Well, I might have something to confess," he said playfully, his thumb tracing circles on the back of my hand. "After all this chaos is over, once Silas and I have finally come to an understanding, I wouldn't mind settling down with you."
My heart skipped a beat at his words, a rush of happiness and excitement flooding through me.
To think of a future where we could build a life together, free from the burdens of the past, was a dream I had held close to my heart.
But as the paradise of our sweet words settled between us, a strange sensation prickled at the edges of my consciousness, unknown to me now, but still, very much there.
It was as if an invisible presence lingered just beyond the threshold of our conversation, an observer veiled in the shadows…
