Anika’s P.O.V
The very air seemed to crackle with tension as I evaded his attacks, my movements fueled by equal parts fear and determination.
The clash of metal against earth reverberated through the night as I used anything I could touch to defend myself against his relentless assault.
I knew I couldn't continue this battle for long.
Silas was strong and agile, his movements fueled by an unnatural fervor.
With a burst of adrenaline, I made a split-second decision.
I turned and sprinted towards the direction of Ezra's pack territory, towards the old house I once followed Zoya into, my heart racing in rhythm with my footsteps.
Every heartbeat seemed to echo in my ears as I pushed my body to its limits.
My mind raced, my thoughts a jumble of fear for Silas, concern for the cursed dagger, and the unwavering determination to reach Ezra's old house.
In the distance, the silhouette of the place that held our last hope loomed against the night sky, a beacon guiding me toward the ritual that could save us all.
My heart raced with each step I took, the sound of my frantic breaths mingling with the rustling leaves and the ominous echoes of Silas's pursuit.
I dodged and weaved, evading Silas's strikes by a hair's breadth, each near-miss sending shivers down my spine.
My body screamed in protest, aching from the impacts I'd managed to avoid but not without consequence.
Bruises blossomed across my skin, painful reminders of the danger that chased me.
I was running on sheer adrenaline, each labored breath fueling my determination to reach the old house.
As the moon cast its eerie glow upon the familiar structure, my heart swelled with relief and exhaustion.
My grandmother stood there, a calming force, like a shield, amid the chaos. Her eyes held an understanding that went beyond words, and her mere presence was a reminder that I wasn't alone in this battle.
"Anika, quickly!" her voice called out, carrying the weight of urgency as she motioned for me to enter.
Without hesitation, I crossed the remaining distance and stepped into the house, the wooden floorboards creaking beneath my feet.
The air inside was heavy with anticipation and ancient magic, and a sense of purpose seemed to fill the very walls.
As my grandmother ushered me further in, the doors closed behind us with a soft thud, shutting out the night and the tumultuous outside world.
A peculiar sense of anticipation hung in the air like a tangible force.
The room was dimly lit, the flickering flames of numerous candles casting long shadows across the walls.
In the center, Ezra stood resolute, a solemn expression etched upon his face. He was encircled by candles that created an intricate pattern on the floor, their soft glow illuminating the room in an eerie, otherworldly light.
Beside him stood Zoya, her eyes fixed on the circle with an unfortunate combination of concern and fear. Still, she looked determined. I admired that about her.
Cam and Gustav stood nearby, their presence adding a layer of support and solidarity to the room.
The room seemed to pulsate with an energy that was both awe-inspiring and overwhelming.
I turned to my grandmother, our eyes meeting in a shared understanding of the gravity of the situation.
She gave me a solemn nod.
But our moment of peace was interrupted when Silas came barreling from the other side.
My mouth widened in a silent scream… but…
A surge of hope coursed through me as I watched the entranceway transform into an impenetrable barrier, preventing Silas from entering.
The invisible wall shimmered with a protective energy, holding him back.
“What…?” I couldn’t help but question out loud.
"I placed a protective barrier around the house," Lady Athena explained with a proud gleam in her eyes. Then the expression quickly went sober. “But we still have to hurry. The demon goes stronger by the second. It’s only a matter of time before it completely overpowers my spell.”
She turned to me. “Where’s the dagger? Do you have it?”
I gestured to the furious not-Silas outside the barrier. “He has it.”
Grandmother frowned. We both watched as Silas's furious attempts to breach the barrier kept being blocked by an invisible force that repelled him at every turn.
At one point, the dagger he was holding fell from his grasp.
Finally!
I seized the opportunity, my fingers closing around its hilt. With a swift motion, I snatched it up from where it had fallen, its chilling touch sending a shiver down my spine.
I barely managed to make my way into the door before Silas caught a hold of me, his fingers almost clutching onto the hem of my top.
My eyes darted to Ezra, who stood resolute at the center of a circle formed by an array of flickering candles. Their warm glow seemed to push back the encroaching darkness, casting a protective shield of their own.
I wasted no time, propelling the dagger through the air with all the strength I could muster.
It spun through the air like a deadly comet, landing in Ezra's outstretched hand with a resounding clatter.
Ezra's grip on the dagger tightened as he locked eyes with the figure that had once been
Silas.
The room was awash in the warm, pulsating light of the candles, casting an ethereal glow upon the unfolding scene.
Silas's body convulsed as if caught in the throes of a battle within himself, a fierce struggle against the malevolent presence that had taken root within him.
As the tension in the room mounted, a transformation occurred before our very eyes.
The demonic entity, once lurking in the shadows, began to take form.
Its figure shifted, contorted, and warped, revealing an almost semi-human shape. Red eyes glowed like burning embers within the silhouette, its presence radiating a chilling sense of dread that seemed to freeze the very air.
Silas's body finally succumbed to the struggle, collapsing to the floor in a heap. His unconscious form lay at the mercy of the demon's manifestation, it’s terrifying essence now tangible.
And then it let out a roar of a sound that made chills run down my spine in fear.
