Torn Between my Alpha Mates

Chapter 168: Time of Need

Ch. 168 / 177 Dec 10, 2025

Zoya’s P.O.V

The deafening roar of the demon reverberated through the air, like a tempest of rage that threatened to shatter the very foundations of the house.

Anika and I exchanged determined glances, a shared resolve etched into our expressions.

With a concerted effort, we strained to drag Silas's limp form further within the protective confines of the barrier that now held him at bay, as he was no longer possessed by the evil entity.

The invisible energy seemed to yield slightly to our endeavor, granting us a fraction more space, but the demon's fury itself was unyielding. It didn't want us to take Silas.

As we tugged on Silas's unconscious body, a cacophony of malevolent energy collided with the barrier's unyielding strength.

The demon's physical manifestations looked human, but at the same time… it was clear that it was anything but. It was like looking at pictures of the Uncanny Valley phenomenon, or seeing the silhouette of a thorny tree.

Nonetheless, whatever it was shaped to be, it was clearly powerful. It thrashed against the barrier, attempting to knock it down or break in.

The impact was staggering, causing the entire house to quake and shudder, as if the very walls themselves were under siege.

A cascade of dust and debris rained down from the ceiling, adding to the sense of chaos that filled the air.

The very ground beneath our feet trembled, a testament to the unimaginable force that the demon possessed.

My heart felt leaden and heavy. Did we really have what it takes to kill this demon? If anything, we seemed to be under its mercy now…

With every collision, the barrier vibrated like a tightly strung instrument, absorbing the impact and yet quivering with the effort.

The demon's frenzied onslaught seemed to amplify, its desperation palpable as it hurled itself against the invisible wall that held it at bay.

Its relentless assaults became a relentless attack, each thud resonating through the very bones within us.

Anika and I continued our frantic struggle, our bodies straining against the force of the demon's aggression. We would stumble as we dragged Silas's unconscious weight inside the house while the demon continued its attempts to knock the place down.

The tension in the room was thick, the very air electric with the clash of forces far beyond the physical realm.

"Cut your palm!" Lady Athena yelled at Ezra.

"What?" I stopped helping Anika try to get Silas in to focus on what was happening inside the house.

"Cut your palm, Ezra!" Lady Athena repeated. "Draw the symbol I taught you! On the ground! With your blood!"

"You didn't say anything about blood rituals!" I exclaimed.

"You can't expect this to end without any sacrifices," Lady Athena said gravely, her wise eyes never leaving Ezra. "Just be grateful he doesn't have to take his life."

That shut me up.

With an air of determined focus, Ezra positioned the blade over his palm, his hand trembling slightly as he steadied himself for what he was about to do.

A bead of deep crimson formed at the blade's touch, a vivid reminder of the sacrifice he was about to make.

The blade pressed into his flesh, and the pain that followed was sharp and immediate, the sting mingling with a sense of purpose that seemed to course through the room.

Ezra's hand trembled ever so slightly as he let his blood flow, drawing a complex symbol upon the floor.

Each stroke of the blade seemed deliberate, as if he were etching not just the lines of a spell, but the hope that this act could free us from the malevolent grip of the demon.

With the symbol complete, Ezra raised the dagger high above his head, the blade glinting in the candlelight as it caught the flickering flames.

His gaze was resolute, his eyes fixed on the symbol he had drawn, his hand unwavering despite the pain that throbbed from his palm.

And then, with a swift and purposeful motion, he plunged the dagger into the center of the symbol, the blade sinking into the floorboards with a soft thud.

Lady Athena joined them by the circle, and then she began to say something.

As Lady Athena's chanting filled the air, a hushed tension enveloped the room, our collective breaths held in a mingling of anticipation and trepidation.

Time seemed to hang suspended, the very essence of our hopes and fears distilled into this single moment.

After a while, Lady Athena seemed to have gotten the final word of her enchantment out because she stopped talking and looked around expectantly.

But… nothing.

The room remained unchanged, the demon's presence unyielding to the spell that had been cast.

What the hell is happening?

A shiver of uncertainty raced down my spine, a chill that was mirrored in the eyes of those around me.

And then, a sound that shattered the silence — the sound of mocking laughter, echoing from beyond the confines of the barrier.

The demon's triumphant glee cut through the air like a knife, a stark reminder that this was a battle far from over, and that the stakes had never been higher.

Amidst the demon's commotion outside, a heavy silence hung around us, thick with tension and confusion, as we all exchanged bewildered glances.

The atmosphere crackled with the aftermath of Lady Athena's spell, the lingering energy of a thwarted attempt.

Anika's worried expression mirrored the concern that etched across everyone's faces, each of us grappling to understand why the spell hadn't succeeded. And then, it was as if a lightning bolt of realization struck me.

The truth hit me like a freight train, and my heart raced in my chest as the pieces of the puzzle snapped into place.

My voice quivered as I spoke, my words carrying the weight of a chilling revelation. "It wasn't Ezra's mother who called the demon. It was Silas's mother."
