Torn Between my Alpha Mates

Chapter 134: A Resolution…? Part 2

Ch. 134 / 177 Dec 10, 2025

Silas' P.O.V

His troubled expression spoke volumes, revealing the inner conflict he was wrestling with. It was evident that my confession had shaken him, throwing his world off-balance, just as his own admission had done to mine.

I wondered if my words would ever be enough to bridge the chasm that had formed between us, after so long.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he spoke up, asking, "If you really did care so much about her, then why did you run?" He clenched his fists. "You could’ve stayed and told us the truth, that you had been the one to find Lily’s dead body, not the one that killed her. Then we wouldn’t be here right now, Silas."

"Would you have believed me?"

Around us, it seemed as though the restaurant had fallen silent, the patrons' chatter a distant background noise.

The atmosphere in the restaurant shifted around us as our intense conversation took precedence.

The clinking of cutlery against plates and the hum of conversations from nearby tables seemed to fade into the background, their significance diminished by the weight of our words.

My eyes remained locked with Ezra's, searching for any sign of understanding or acknowledgment. The tension between us was palpable, stretching the seconds into eternity as we grappled with the revelations that had been laid bare.

In that moment, it felt as though the world had ceased to exist beyond our little bubble. The low hum of the restaurant's ambiance merged with the beating of my heart, echoing the pulse of uncertainty that coursed through my veins.

When I realized Ezra had no answer to my question, I continued to speak, "To be honest… I don't know. Part of it was the fact that I felt guilty for not being able to protect her, but part of it was because when I saw your face that night, the only thing in my mind was that you would think I was the killer. And that was exactly what happened, didn't it?"

I sighed. "So I ran and hid the dagger. I wanted to get the prints examined one day and prove my innocence, but the guilt in my heart had turned to anger." My eyes dropped to the table. "And… the more I thought about Lily’s death, the more I began to suspect that… perhaps… you were the one behind it."

We were silent once more, and it had gone on for so long that I even contemplated taking my eating utensils and starting to dig into the food before us, just to do something.

I was saved from the embarrassment when Ezra spoke up once more.

"It's strange, isn't it?" he mused, looking at me. "I've been carrying this anger and resentment towards you for so long, but today, here in the heart of New York, it's like a weight has been lifted. I can see things more clearly now."

I nodded thoughtfully. "I feel the same way," I admitted. "For some reason, my mind is clearer today. I'm not as overwhelmed by anger and rage. It's like I can think more rationally."

We took a few beats to try and process this. Indeed, it was strange how I was suddenly no longer grappled by my pain and anger and pride.

It was like I was a whole new person, my mind wiped free of the shackles of rage.

And to think… it was not only I who was experiencing this phenomenon l, but also Ezra himself… almost like it was on purpose…

If I didn't know better, I'd say it was a coincidence. But in a world of fated mates and werewolves and every other possible creature under the sun, there were no coincidences…

A cold chill crawled up my spine. What was happening? Had someone placed some sort of curse on us? So we would hurl the blame on each other and kill one another at the height of our wrath?

I didn't know what to feel about that thought.

Suddenly, Ezra doubled over in pain, his face contorting with anguish. I reached forward, concerned. "What are you—?" I began to ask.

Then, I felt it.

A wave of pure pain.

The atmosphere around me shifted suddenly, as if the very air had turned heavy and oppressive.

A sharp pain shot through my chest, catching me off guard, and I instinctively clutched at my heart. It was like a searing heat radiating from the depths of my soul, making my breath hitch.

Instinctively, my hand went to my chest, feeling an overwhelming sense of heaviness and ache, as if a knife had indeed pierced my heart.

The connection we shared with a certain someone, our mating bond, surged with intensity, transmitting the distress we both felt.

We both looked up at the same time, and our eyes locked in a moment of shared understanding, no words necessary.

We knew, without a doubt, that something was wrong with our fated mate.

"Zoya," we whispered at the same time, our voice barely audible as we felt an overwhelming need to reach out to her, to make sure she was safe.

But the pain left me momentarily paralyzed, my thoughts racing as I tried to make sense of what was happening.

The bond we both separately shared with her, the unbreakable tie that connected us on a soul-deep level, had alerted us to her pain, her fear, or perhaps something even worse.
