Silas’s P.O.V
I awoke with a jolt, my senses swirling in disarray. Everything felt hazy and disjointed, like trying to piece together a fractured memory.
At first, I was disoriented, my mind struggling to make sense of my surroundings.
The world was dimly lit, shadows dancing erratically on the walls outside the house. My body felt heavy, as if I'd been drugged, and I could taste the acrid tang of smoke in the air. Panic began to gnaw at the edges of my consciousness, but I fought to stay calm.
As my senses gradually clawed their way back to me, I started to register the chaos around me. There were distant shouts, the clatter of debris, and the unmistakable crackling of fire. It was a scene of utter turmoil.
And then, as if responding to some primal instinct buried deep within me, my Alpha senses kicked in.
It was as if a switch had been flipped, snapping me into alertness.
Suddenly, the world around me sharpened into focus, and I could feel the pulse of every heartbeat, the rush of every breath, and the position of every member of my pack.
I surged to my feet, my mind now clear and my body responsive. Whatever had happened here, whatever had plunged me into this disorienting state, I knew one thing for certain: it was my duty as Alpha to protect the people around me.
“Silas! Take Ezra’s place in the circle!” Anika’s grandmother snapped me into action.
As Lady Athena issued her command directed to me, I wasted no time in doing as she ordered me to, barely able to get my wits together as I had just regained my consciousness.
The room pulsed with an eerie energy, and the barrier's defenses appeared to weaken as the demon returned, its malevolent presence felt like a chilling breeze cutting through the room.
The crack in the barrier sent shivers down my spine, but there was no room for fear, only determination.
I must not lose heart.
I gripped the dagger tightly; the hilt cool against my palm, and my fingers tingled with anticipation.
The candles cast elongated shadows around the room, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Their flickering flames seemed to dance in time with Lady Athena's incantations, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.
Ezra, having performed his part, retreated to join the others. His eyes met mine briefly, a silent exchange of trust and understanding.
We both knew the importance of this moment, the weight of our shared history and the redemption we sought for our family's sins.
In that brief moment that spanned a lifetime, we truly felt connected as brothers.
As I prepared to draw the circle, I focused on Lady Athena's words, her voice resonating with an ancient power that sent ripples through the room.
Cutting my palm with a wince of pain, I traced the intricate pattern on the floor with precise movements, the dagger's tip leaving crimson marks on the wooden surface.
It was a symbol of what I wished was hope and a declaration of our intent to break free from the curse's grasp.
With the circle complete, I drove the dagger into the center, its blade penetrating the floorboards with a resolute determination. The room quivered, and a luminous energy radiated from the symbol I had drawn. Lady Athena's voice grew in intensity, her words invoking forces beyond our understanding.
Outside the barrier, the demon raged, its presence felt like a storm battering the protective shield.
It hurled itself at the invisible wall, creating an unnerving cacophony of thuds and roars. But within our circle, we remained steadfast, focused on the ancient rituals and the power of our collective will.
As the spell reached its zenith, the room seemed to hold its breath, a pregnant pause before the crescendo.
But then… in the midst of our ritual, just as Lady Athena’s incantations reached a fevered pitch, the unthinkable happened.
The demon, with a sheer display of malevolence, burst through the weakening barrier. The entire house shuddered, as if an earthquake had taken residence within its walls.
Dust and debris rained down from the cracked ceiling above. The room itself seemed to convulse, its very walls trembling under the dark entity's intrusive presence.
It was as though the very foundations of the building were protesting the malevolence that had taken root within it.
I glanced around, my heightened Alpha senses picking up the distress of my pack members. There were scattered shouts, the frightened cries of those in the immediate vicinity, and the distinct sound of Cam's voice calling out to check on everyone.
The demon was a swirling entity, swooping toward me at blinding speed.
But then, an astonishing transformation occurred.
The demon, which moments before had been a menacing force, halted abruptly in the center of the room.
It became a shapeless, shadowy mass, an entity stripped of any discernible form. A brilliant, blinding light erupted around it, casting stark, elongated shadows that danced in a chaotic ballet across the walls. It wailed in agony, and though I felt a sick satisfaction rise like a wave within me, I still couldn’t help but wince.
The intensity of the radiating light was almost unbearable, and we instinctively shielded our eyes and ears from the sensory assault.
The demon, trapped within this radiant maelstrom, began to wail and screech in agony, its torment echoing through the room.
It was as if the very essence of darkness was being consumed by an unstoppable force of pure, searing light.
Amidst the chaos, I caught sight of Ezra. He reacted with lightning speed, throwing his protective embrace around Zoya.
And, I had to admit… it was a powerful symbol of his unwavering commitment to keep her safe, to shield her from the malevolent forces that sought to harm her and their unborn child.
Surprisingly, I did not feel any jealousy or anger.
As the demon's wails reached a crescendo, it became increasingly apparent that the balance of power had shifted.
The room trembled and crackled with energy, and for a brief, intense moment, it seemed as though the very fabric of reality hung in the balance.
An explosion of brilliance consumed the room. It was as if the very essence of the demon could no longer withstand the intensity of the light that encircled it.
