Alora.
I couldn't fall asleep, even when my body ached and I felt tired to my very core. Maybe it was because I felt very dirty, made and clammy with sweat and even cold.
Ares was already asleep, from the sound of his steady breathing and it's only been maybe an hour or so, I stared at the bedside clock, unable to detect the time, I looked away.
It was still very dark outside, the moon shone into the room, it was almost full and I couldn't feel excited about it.
The full moon was the most exciting time for a werewolf because they felt power, strength and the cord that tied them to the moon goddess.
Most days I spent my time thinking about what it felt like to have a powerful being tied to you. What was it like to feel the bond of the moon goddess and the strength of the moon she had bestowed on her people?
The ability to shape shift, taking a new form of a wolf, powerful, fast and beautiful. I had seen many colors of my pack wolf, my father's fur was brown while my mother's was a pale yellow color.
Seeing their wolf was rare because they had been banished to the outskirts of the pack, reducing their bond with their people, and weakening them.
Werewolf were supposed to be in a pack, a family, a people to become stronger. The moon goddess had made it that way so there would be peace amongst them. If everyone went their way thinking they could be strong on their own it could give room for the humans to find out who we are.
War would spring up amongst our people, so we had to stick together. We were stronger together. But then war had broken out between two of the strongest packs, White Moon and Blood Moon and the community had been divided.
White Moon took over small packs around, making them bigger while some joined Blood Moon, making the two packs the strongest ones in the world. Some packs had stayed, not joining any but as much as they tried to stay away from the war, sometimes they were at the receiving end but they couldn't do anything to risk them from being overtaken.
Jax was a cruel Alpha, and Ares was no better and it saddened me how I had just jumped from one to another. I guess the moon goddess was really cruel to me.
Granting me with no wolf because I had been born on a moonless night, no powers, strength or speed except the ability to mask myself which was almost useless because I was often found whenever I tried to hide.
Jax found me by perceiving my dear of him, even when I masked it well and hid underneath the bed, the fear of him was too strong for him not to notice where I was. And it was the same as Ares.
When I had arrived here, sneaking underneath his bed, he had found me. The power was useless. And it didn't make me any more wolf than usual.
I had been casted out of the pack along with my parents and in exchange of sparing their lives for giving birth to almost a human, my mother had requested I be given to the Alpha as a slave. It was the only way to stop their execution.
Back then Jax's parents were the leaders of the pack and they had agreed only to die in a ghastly accident a few years later.
I had been taken to Jax at fifteen, amsi could remember when I had realized he was the alpha all this time.
The cold wind blew into the room and I tore my gaze away from the moon.
The moon goddess had been cruel to me and while I muttered a few words of prayers to her, I decided I didn't want to anymore.
She didn't deserve my worship after all she had put me through.
And just when I thought I could have a mate who would deliver me from this year's of slavery, I discovered I could never have one.
As a wolfless girl, I could never make a connection with my mate, he could be standing beside me and I wouldn't know. And while my mate could know I'm his mate because he had a wolf, it would be difficult if I was locked up all my life.
That was another reason why I wanted to run away, if I couldn't find my mate, he could find me. He would know that I was his, I belonged to him, he could make the connection for the both of us.
But instead I was locked up in here.
He wouldn't even want me, I was a broken thing, a slave, wolfless and practically useless. I had been defiled in every way and while Ares hadn't touched me or done the same like Jax, I knew it was only a matter of time.
No one would want me. Even if my mate figured I was his, he wouldn't tell me, because I was nothing. I wasn't what he would expect as a mate.
I picked my toe nails, not finding tears to cry anymore. Most days I believed I must have exhausted all the tears in my eyes. I was tired of crying, it gave me a headache.
Resting my head against my knee, I tried to sleep but the sudden jerking of the bed had me tearing my gaze to Ares.
His eyes were shut as if he was in pain. His teeth gritted as sweat filled his forehead.
Was he having a bad dream?
He was laying on his chest, his face turned to me as he growled and it sounded painful.
I stared at him in fear, praying he didn't wake up. If he did he would most likely be mad. But I found myself wondering if the powerful Alpha of Blood Moon Pack had nightmares too?
While he was awake, Ares was cruel, heartless and apathetic. But asleep, he almost looked vulnerable, like a child afraid in a dark lonely room.
I frowned, looking away from him. He deserved it. He was ruthless, it was only natural for the blood of those he had killed to haunt him in his sleep. He had a lot of innocent blood on his hands and they haunted him.
But as I started to look away I saw a glow coming from Ares' back. I got on my knees, peeking at him to make sure he was still asleep as I turned to his back once more.
He was wearing a white shirt so I was sure there was a glow underneath it. It was red, shimmering lightly and almost unnoticeable but I leaned closer to him squinting my eyes to detect what it was and where it was coming from.
Ares growled again, very painfully this time almost sounding like a whine and I feared, he looked like he was in pain and his fingers gripped the bedsheets and he gritted his teeth.
The red glow continued, getting a bit brighter and I shifted closer to the bed, my heart thumping loudly as I reached for the shirt, trying to pull it down a bit to see if I could see why his back was glowing.
I could barely make out anything except I pulled the clothing away. My curiosity got the best of my fear, even while my hands shook as I got closer to Ares' shirt.
My fingers had barely grazed the material when I felt someone grab my wrist. All the hair at the back of my neck stood and I froze in fear, my eyes turning to Ares.
He looked different, his hair plastered on his forehead from the sweat and his eyes were blood red, matching the red glow from his back. His canine was out as he growled loudly at me.
My blood ran cold as I stared at Ares. There was a fierce look in his eyes as he bared his teeth at me, squeezing my wrist tighter as I noticed his claws were out, digging into my already bruised wrist.
There was a deadly aura around him, filling the room, it was deadly, choking the life out of me. I almost found myself submitting to him because it was like a new person had taken over Ares. Or maybe this was just a glimpse of his wolf side.
A crazy amount of fear took over me at those red bloody eyes, they looked so powerful and almost immediately, they shimmered away, lightning and turning to its usual deep blue.
Ares' claws retreated as his canine shortened back to normal teeth, in a second, his hands left mine, his eyes rolling to the back of his head as he collapsed to the bed and was out once more.
I finally regained consciousness of my body as I staggered backwards in fear, tears had been rolling down my face and I hadn't even realized. My forehead was sweaty and I was shaking vigorously.
With a shaky head, I managed to turn to Ares' back to see that the red glow had stopped, and it was normal like there had been nothing out of the ordinary just a few moments ago.
I stepped away from him quickly, shaking like a leaf despite the cold room. I could hardly believe my eyes as I couldn't even understand what had happened.
I had never seen that before, a red glowing maybe it was a mark, on the back of someone. I wish I had seen what it was but Ares had woken up immediately. He wasn't bluffing when he said he would know if I moved an inch.
But remembering those red eyes, they had looked so deadly yet lost?
It was Ares but it wasn't him. I shook my head, bowing my head and shifting my legs closer to me, my body still shaking with fear as the aura in the room died down. Leaving it the usual dark and gloomy.
I realized I wasn't breathing properly, my chest felt right like someone was choking the hell out of me and I could almost feel Jax's hands around my neck.
No!
Those Ares' red eyes had been a trigger of Jax's. But his was filled with mischief as he forced me to look at them, pinning my hand above my head on the bed and taking me with full force.
Stop! Please!
I buried my face in my palm, shaking my head as the unpleasant memories of my past filled my head, reminding me of who I was.
A whore!
Slave!
Toy!
Nothing but a tool for pleasure!
Stop! Stop! Please!
"I'll be good. I promise. I'll be good." I muttered fearfully, rocking my body as tears ran down my face.
I hated not knowing what was going to come next with Ares, at least Jax was predictable. I knew when he wanted me, how and where but with Ares, I didn't know what he wanted from me. He hadn't touched me and took me to his bed.
And that was what scared me the most.
When would he? How would he?
Because there was one thing I knew.
Ares was the same as Jax.
He was no different.
He was a monster, and it wouldn't be long before he showed me the beast that lies within him.
