The Alpha's Broken Slave

Chapter 40

Ch. 40 / 60 May 03, 2026

Alora.

I opened my eyes to bright lights and I shut them back sleepily. Feeling the rest of my body wake as I stretched on the soft mattress I was on before I forcefully opened my eyes again.

I was lying on top of a king sized bed, and it felt so soft under my body. It was dressed with dark bed sheets and there was a dark duvet over my body as I rubbed my arms, feeling warm.

I frowned as I looked around the room and tried to figure where I was.

Ares room!

I recognized the dark uninviting room that I had grown accustomed to the past two weeks. And I looked underneath my palm.

Ares' bed too!

What the hell was I doing here?

I asked myself as I raised my brow in surprise before my brain decided to wake up and remind me of Ares' cup breaking, and me stupidly stepping on its pieces. I remember falling and Ares picking me before placing me on his bed.

I had fallen asleep minutes later.

A faint blush filled my cheeks as I remembered the feel of Ares' arms around me. There had been something different in the way Ares held me.

Jax had held me many times, but it was domineering, commanding and possessive.

His touch was like fire to my skin and I grew irritated just thinking of his hands over my body.

But I clearly remember last night I didn't feel any of that. There had only been a slight discomfort at first but a few seconds later.

It felt okay?

The bathroom door slammed open and I jerked, turning to the bathroom to see Ares casually walking out of the bathroom with a white towel tied around his waist.

And just as I thought I was going to take my eyes away from him. My head wouldn't turn away as I took in the man in front of me.

Apart from being devilishly tall, Ares was leanly built. With the perfect body. His muscles cut fine sculptured lines over his powerful biceps that flexed as he ran his fingers down his hair.

His pack tattoo I noticed for the first time was at the right side of his neck. A fierce bloody wolf's head with a pool of blood underneath it. And as water trailed from his neck towards it, it appeared like dropping blood instead.

Water dripped down his chest, trailing past a strong wide chest, flat stomach and then into the towel leaving my imagination to run wild.

His hair splashed water everywhere as he roughly ran his fingers through it, his eyes closed as he walked further into the room. His body movement showed that he was tired. I looked closer at his wrist and I noticed a deep scar running from both sides of his wrist. The scar looked old but very clear and visible. It must have taken so much time to heal.

Ares was dangerously handsome despite his scar and my eyes followed him with a blush filling my cheeks shamelessly.

He hadn't noticed I was awake yet as he turned towards his desk and picked his phone.

Just as Ares had his back turned to me I finally had a glimpse to where the red glow had been coming from.

At his back was a tattoo, no, a mark instead?

It was a black round circle that ran from his shoulder to his lower back. It had weird markings and writings around it. But as usual I couldn't read them. Infact this didn't look like the letters I had seen in any of Jax's books.

But what shocked me was what was inside the black circle. It was two wolves' heads, they were both inverted so that none of them faced each other.

There was a wolf with its head facing Ares' lower back and the other head was facing Ares' shoulder. The heads were made to look like the recycle logo.

But there was a long line running from the top of the circle to the bottom, sharing the circle in a perfect half and separating both wolves' heads.

The wolves' heads were on both sides of the demarcated circle as if they were never supposed to cut into each other's space.

Two separated wolves' heads?

What did that mean?

And as I stared harder, the writings around the circle seemed to glow in a dark shade of red softly, not as it had done when I had seen it through its shirt. It was like the mark was contained now, lightly glowing as if very soon it was going to burst out any minute.

In a second, the red lights shimmered away from the writings and I raised my brow in confusion, squinting my eyes to be sure I had seen properly. Ares suddenly hissed in pain, his phone crashing down from his hands and falling on the floor. Thankfully, it didn't break as he groaned again painfully this time.

Fear rushed through my spine as I carefully watched Ares lean against his desk, his breathing labored as he arches his back, struggling to remain standing before he clenched his eyes in pain.

I shifted further away from the bed almost crashing to the floor when Ares finally sighed tiredly. Standing up straight and wiping his hand down his face then turned to me.

I gasped all the hair standing at the back of my neck as I shifted further away but this time, I crashed to the floor, narrowly missing my head against the bedside table.

Pain tore through my feet immediately as I stomped them accidentally on the bed frame. I hissed, clenching my eyes as they filled with tears and I managed to sit up properly.

The pain lingered a bit and I stared at my feet. The tiny cuts had turned red and were starting to look irritating. I looked away from it in disgust. I had always hated the sight of blood.

But funny how I saw it often.

I peeked from the top of the bed at Ares who had turned away uninterested and was shoving clothes in his walk-in closet. He took out a black suit as that was mostly what he had then proceeded to remove his towel when I gasped and bowed my head to the floor in embarrassment.

I heard a snicker and I blushed. He must have caught me staring at him.

What a creep I was!

I decided to lay down on the floor quietly, my hair sprawling around me as I pulled my legs closer to my chest. A sound came to my head, it was the same tone to one of the ones I had heard from Raya's headphones.

It was a melody that I wanted to play on the piano.

I sighed sadly, already missing the sound of the piano on my ears, but Ares had forbidden everyone from the west wing and I wasn't about to make him mad at me anymore.

The small privilege he had given me was going to be stripped away and I was going to be chained up naked as usual.

"Get up!" I heard a voice from above me and I looked up to see Ares standing in front of me in a black suit and black shirt that had its two first buttons undone to reveal his chest.

I struggled to sit up and then held the bed for support as I tried to stand on my feet but it was close to impossible as I staggered backwards again.

This time Ares didn't help me and I crashed on the bedside lamp. Its edges pressed hard against me as I hissed in pain.

Ares rolled his eyes, swiping his black hair away from his face before taking a step towards me and grabbing my wrist with his large hand.

Fear traveled round my body as Ares pulled me harder and away from the bed.

A part of me grew scared and nervous as I wondered what he was going to do next. My wounded leg hit the floor painfully as my eyes welled with tears but Ares didn't care as he took long strides out of the room leaving me to catch up to them with wounded feet and short legs.

"Alpha." I heard someone say the moment we got to the hallway and I whipped my head to see Seth just entering the hallway from the stairs with a heavy frown on his face.

He shifted his gaze from Ares to me and back again. But Ares didn't bother turning to him as he continued to drag me along the hallway.

"Wait for me downstairs." Ares said as he pulled out a key from his pocket, coming to a stop at the door just beside his room.

I breathed a sigh of relief as he finally stopped walking but in the corner of my eyes I saw Seth walking backwards slowly. His confused stare fixed on us.

"Fuck. Which one is it?" Ares groaned, looking down at the bunch of keys in his hand. His brows arched in confusion as shoved each key aside before holding one.

I stared at the door as he pushed it into the keyhole, then kicked the door open loudly. I flinched at the noise as Ares didn't waste any time in pushing me further into the room behind him.

There was a heavy frown on his face as he looked around the room, still holding my wrist firmly in his hand.

I turned away from him as I faced the room for the first time. It was big, almost as big as Ares' room. But while his was uninviting and dark. This was bright and warm with more colors than his.

There was a huge queen sized bed at the center with a blue canopy above it. The windows are locked but sun seeped through its blue curtains. The walls were painted white.

A dressing table with lights at the edges sat just where Ares' sat in his room, and I noticed a door just beside it. The bathroom definitely was in there.

To the left of the table was a similar walk-in closet but it was empty, the door was ajar.

Despite the dust that filled the room, it was beautiful and magnificent. A complete contrast to Ares' and I found myself wanting to jump on the big bed.

"This is your room now." Ares blurted out, a frown on his face as he stomped on the dusty floor.

My eyes widened as I stared at him in confusion.

I was getting my own room!

I was getting my own room!

Jax didn't even let me leave his in five years and suddenly I was going to have mine!

My own freaking room!

A bright smile broke out from my face as I looked at the room again in shock, processing the fact that these four corners of this room were mine!

It was mine!

My eyes welled with tears as I raised my left hand to wipe them off, unable to use the other as Ares still held onto it tightly.

My heart leapt with so much joy that it threatened to break out of my chest and bounce around the floor happily.

I turned to see Ares looking at me as he sharply turned away, coughing nervously as he dropped my arm. Blood finally flowed through my wrist as I rubbed it before wiping my eyes again.

"You can stay here. But if you misbehave. I'll have you chained back to my bed. Understood?" Ares asked, giving me a stern look that made me step away from him fearfully.

No matter the good he had done. I still feared Ares. He was the Alpha and I was forced to submit to him whether I wanted to or not.

I nodded once, and Ares said nothing before he started to walk away angrily. And just as he reached the door I opened my mouth to speak for the first time since I had awakened.

"Thank you." I said softly, knowing that despite my small voice he heard me.

Ares stopped in his tracks for a moment, not turning to turn to me. His dark suit covered the red glow from the mark on his back that was turned to me.

After a second, he continued out of the room, gently closing the door behind him. And when he did, I turned back to the room with a smile on my face.

This room was mine. I had my room for the first time in my life.
