Ares.
A loud scream made me tear the phone away from my ear as I recognized it as Alora's before I ended the call and shoved it in my pocket then sprinted down the hallway nearly bumping into a nurse who was coming out of a room.
I pushed the door open to reveal Isabel's dad Doctor Kunle standing in front of Alora with a needle in his hand before he glanced worridley at me.
But I walked past him as I got closer to Alora who had her hand buried in her palm as I could hear her sobbing. My heart clenched as I drew closer before turning back to the doctor.
"I think she's scared of needles." He said and I frowned, reaching for Alora who continued to cry. I didn't know what to do so I drew back my hand before coughing awkwardly.
"It's not that painful." I said, hoping that she would look up at me and she did, my heart skipped a beat for a second when her eyes met mine.
The tears around her violet eyes appeared like glass that shimmered under the bright lights of the room and no matter how many times I had seen her cry, it was still mesmerizing like I had seen it for the first time.
"It's going to hurt. I know that." Alora said, glancing at the needle in Doctor Kunle's hand before she shifted away from him and a bit closer to me.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes as I glanced at my watch. I had only fifteen minutes to spare before we finally drove to the mall.
"Is there anything you can give her?" I asked Isabel's father who shook his head.
"No, it's only this. The wound had been open for a while and I had to take off those bandages on her face too. They need to be changed, she might not even need them anymore." He said and I sighed before turning back to Alora who looked up at me with big round eyes.
"There's nothing else to do. Just stay still." I commanded before stepping away and urged Doctor Kunle closer. Alora squealed a little before she grabbed onto my hand, intertwining my fingers with hers.
My heart leapt and my eyes widened at her touch against me, her hand in mine, small and dainty that if I squeezed it too hard it was going to break.
But Alora wasn't even looking as she had looked away and shut her eyes close, pressing it tightly as Doctor Kunle cleaned a spot on her shoulders, preparing her for the injection.
It was like time had slowed down a bit as Alora held onto me tighter when the needle pierced through her arm, a tiny scream escaping her lips as tears rolled down her cheeks.
I stood there like an idiot, not knowing what to do. Do I draw back my hand? I didn't know.
I scratched the back of my head as doctor Kunle stepped back, dropping the needle in his tray, smiling softly at me and giving me thumbs up.
Frowning, I turned back to Alora who was still looking away so I touched her shoulder making her jump in fright.
"It's over." I said, before pulling my hand away from hers and stepping away.
"You can't finish up. I'll be outside." I said, not sparing another glance at Alora as I stepped outside the room, closing the door behind me.
When I got outside, I rested my back against the wall. Confusion filled me as I raised my hand to my face, staring at it.
I could still feel the tingling sensation of Alora's hand in mine and I frowned before taking out my phone to continue talking to Seth.
It didn't take long for Alora and doctor Kunle to come outside. The band aid had been taken off her face leaning tiny cuts bare, but they were almost healed.
Alora glanced at me briefly before looking away.
"She's all better. But Alpha. Please get slippers. She shouldn't be walking about like this. I suggest you carry her into the car. The floors are clean but not clean enough. There are tiny germs over the place. If you don't want to risk bringing her back here then I suggest you carry her back." Doctor Kunle said, making me frown at having to carry Alora again.
This was honestly getting really tiring.
"Fine." I said through gritted teeth as I walked towards Alora, not giving her time to even think as I scooped her in my arms making her squeal and wrap her hand around my neck fearfully.
Not wasting another second, I walked out of the hospital, ignoring the stares I was getting from people before the receptionist nurse from before ran behind me.
"Alpha. Are you leaving yet?" She asked.
Serena was an older wolf who hadn't found her mate yet and she took every opportunity she met me to throw herself at me. It was depressing and it angered me.
"Yes." I answered shortly as she nodded before helping me push the door open into the hot sun. I didn't say thank you as I reached the car parked outside, adjusting Alora in one hand and opening the door, then I carefully placed her in the front seat before helping her with her seatbelt and slamming the door shut.
She jumped in fright and I hated the tiny prick of guilt that pinched my heart before I got into the driver's seat and pulled away from the hospital, driving a little too fast.
Alora was quiet the rest of the ride but I could hear her tiny hiccups like she was trying hard not to cry and I was honestly tired of her constant cries.
"What?" I asked angrily as she shook her head quickly. I said nothing as I made a sharp turn making her hold onto the door in fright. That was when I noticed her heavy breathing and her heartbeat that raced in her chest.
Was I driving too roughly?
I slowly pulled the car to a steady pace making her sigh softly, releasing her hand from the door as her heart beat steadied.
The mall came to view and I frowned, there was a crowd of people going in and out of it. I didn't remember when last I had gone to a mall but I knew I hated it. Being around this many people irritated me.
I suddenly remembered why I was even doing this in the first place. I had to get close enough to Alora before Ezra the elder came tomorrow and she needed a few more clothes to look presentable.
This was absurd.
"Get out." I said immediately I brought the car to a stop, parking a little too roughly in the spaces provided as I turned to see Alora looking out the window with awe filled eyes.
She had pressed her face against the window as her eyes looked around the mall. There was a huge air filled balloon in the shape of a human that danced around because of the rush of air in it and that was what had caught her attention as she watched it rise up and down.
Her tiny fingers pressed against the glass and there was a wide smile on her face making small dimples at the side of her cheeks.
A bunch of kids passed the car with cotton candy in their hand and Alora's attention tore away from the balloon as her eyes filled with confusion at what they were holding.
Another group of kids passed by and Alora turned to them again, her eyes filled with glee as she watched them skate around. She drew closer to the window, pushing herself up to see the skateboard underneath their feet as her mouth opened in surprise.
One of the kids, a girl with a pink gown waved at the window at Alora and she smiled before waving back then the girl skated away.
Alora turned to me sharply and I blinked before frowning. She pointed at the skateboard the girl was using. She jumped, flipping the skateboard underneath her feet before landing perfectly on it.
"Will she fall?" Alora asked and I shook my head, removing my seatbelt as I searched for my credit card in my pocket.
"No. It's a skateboard. She clearly knows how to use it." I said, making Alora nod before she tried to move closer to see the girl who had started to disappear from view but the seatbelt was holding her back.
I sighed, not thinking as I reached for Alora's seatbelt as I tried to unbuckle it, but she had found something else of interest as she moved towards the window excitedly.
I groaned, before trying to remove the seatbelt and drew back just as Alora smiled and moved closer to the window in delight.
As I stared at Alora,I wondered why she was acting like a child who was just seeing the world for the first time.
The glee in her eyes showed she hadn't seen a lot of things and I wondered how many years she had spent locked up in her master's home.
A part of me was interested in knowing more about her. Everything about her was different and reminded me of a child. Her childlike wonder, her violet eyes that wanted to see everything in sight and her small lips opened wide as she saw everything.
For a second, I wondered who she was.
Who are you Alora?
I wanted to ask her but I just couldn't, not when she looked this happy and excited that she was almost standing in her seat.
There was something intriguing about Alora, from her violet eyes filled with so much awe and wonder, to her beautiful smile and her curious stare.
Alora turned to me, before pointing at a kite a small boy was holding as he passed by, ignoring his mother yelling at him to be careful.
"It's a kite." I said softly, feeling myself calm for the first time in a while. I didn't know if it was Alora's wide smile that brightened her eyes and her face in general. Or if it was the reflection of the sun against her face highlighting it and making her appear more beautiful.
Whatever it was it sent my heart beating painfully fast in my chest and I feared I was going to have an anxiety attack. But this was different, a different weird feeling that I couldn't understand.
I didn't like this, this weird feeling in my chest.
And it scared me.
"Stay here. I'll get you the slippers." I suddenly said, as I turned away from Alora who nodded as I stepped out of the car, slamming the door shut behind me.
Everything about Alora disturbed me. Her smile, her eyes, her hair, her scars. Everything turned my mind into a state of confusion. Erasing everything and only filling it with thoughts of her.
I frowned.
Something was definitely wrong with me. Because I was perfectly fine before she came, but now that she was here, it was like I didn't know the person I was anymore. And every second with her made it worse.
Those violet eyes haunted me everytime, her smile was stuck in my head and my hand still tingles from when she had held until me fearfully in the hospital.
Why did she do that?
I wanted to ask her but that wasn't the question burning at the back of my mind. I drew my eyes to my palm, and it felt like her hand was still in mine. I could feel her soft small palm still pressed against my palm. Every feeling she must have felt, her fear and nervousness. I could feel them all in my palm like it was a part of me.
No, the main question burning at the back of my mind for the past minute since we left the hospital was;
Why didn't I pull away from her touch?
