Alora.
I stared at the paper just beside my feet, the words weren't familiar. At least I could identify a few words like "English", "Math" and "Textbook" because I had seen them a lot in Jax's books. But that was as far as my vocabulary went.
I didn't understand what was in this paper Ares had thrown at me and my eyes blurred with tears as I stared down at it.
How had he even known? I hadn't told Lana or any of the girls so how did he find out I couldn't read?
The words laid in my throat as I was unable to ask him. It would only just confirm that I was an illeterate, an uneducated slave who knew nothing.
"Are you deaf? Read it." Ares said, sounding a bit angry and I cowered away from him in fear.
Goosebumps filled my skin, both from the cold and from nervousness as I gulped visibly, peeking at the paper once more.
I was a bit dyslexic so I couldn't even try to understand it if I tried and a tear fell past my eyes staining the paper. I shivered, looking o at Ares to see if he had gotten angry at my tears on his paper.
Because I could remember Jax slamming one of his books on my head when I had accidentally stained it with my snot. My head had rang for days with a headache.
But as I looked up I could see Ares looking at me, his eyes weren't cold as usual, instead they felt soft but he quickly snapped out of it, frowning and grabbing the paper before walking off to his table.
I almost sighed in relief that he hadn't stressed on the issue and he had understood without having to insult me and calling me dumb like Jax had done many times.
No one said anything as Ares sat at his desk, snapping his laptop open and began typing on it. The sound of fingers clicking against the keyboard filled the room and my tears dried against my face.
My wrist hurt and my shoulders ached threatening to dislocate from the joint, my back screamed in pain and I could hardly feel blood flowing from my legs because of the position I was in to avoid my brand from showing.
Night fell and Ares still worked, probably to catch up with work from yesterday, having nothing else to do and being unable to sleep because of the body pains, I watched him.
He had huge bags underneath his eyes, as his blue eyes sparkled under the light from his laptop, he glanced often at the papers beside him, making a few calls and giving out orders concerning the pack. His biceps flexed as he moved and typed.
He was wearing a loose shirt and pants, revealing his chest a little. I stared at his tan skin, straining my eyes to see the design on the necklace he had around his neck that I just noticed for the first time.
His pack tattoo was at the right side of his neck a bloody wolf's head with blood dripping underneath it.
For a second, I wondered what Ares wolf would look like. Was it black? Big and fierce? He was the Alpha so I figured it would be.
Jax's were pretty huge, black with a streak of white around the tail, from his mother's. He mostly had green eyes in his wolf form but when he went on a rampage, and was really angry drawing enough power from the moon they turned red.
Just as red as the blood on Ares' neck.
I gave up trying to understand the necklace design, he was too far to detect what it was and I drew my face back to meet him.
Violet met blue.
He was staring at me!
My cheeks flamed red as I tore my gaze away from his sharply, pinning them to the floor in embarrassment.
He must have thought I was checking him out.
Well, weren't you?
No, I wasn't!
I wanted to scream back at the voice in my head. I was just checking out the necklace and maybe his biceps, and I might have checked his chest a little.
Ok! Fine! But just a little bit!
Ares was handsome, there was no doubt about that. He was like a Greek god that had stepped out of the pages of a fantasy book in all his glory and charisma.
His hair was black and his eyes were blue and filled with so many mysteries, and untold secrets. It was like they were roaring waves, splashing against each other but his face didn't betray any emotions he might have been feeling.
I wondered if Ares was still looking at me. He must think I was a huge distraction, taking up space in his room while he was forced to keep my chained here because he didn't trust me enough to release me from his sight.
I wondered also how long it was going to take before he could trust me. I needed Ares to trust me, I didn't mean any harm and I was tired and hungry.
At the thought of food, my stomach growled loudly filling the room with its noise and I gasped in shock, peeking out at Ares who turned to me in irritation.
I said nothing, mentally scolding myself when I heard Ares growl. I turned back to him to see him standing up from his chair and walking out of the room, slamming the door and making me jump.
Why couldn't he just close the door gently for once?
I rolled my eyes tiredly, resting my head against my knee as the cold air blew against my naked skin. I wished I could just get a cloth over my body.
The door opened again and Ares walked in, he stalked towards me and I looked away.
What have I done again?
I felt something hit me and I looked to see a loaf of bread roll to my feet. My mouth watered as I looked up at Ares, my eyes filled with appreciation as he said nothing, turning away from me back to his table.
The bread just sat at my feet, brown and I could see some raisings on it. Smiling, I reached for it and the shackles shook against my wrist, drawing me back and preventing me from moving.
Tears filled my eyes as I slammed my forehead against my knee in frustration.
I couldn't even get it because I was chained to the bed, my stomach growled silently once more and a tear rolled off my cheeks as anger filled me.
My head snapped up when I felt someone in front of me. Ares was crouched low in front of me as he took out the keys from his pocket and started to unlock the shackles.
The chains rattled against my wrist, and my heart thumped loudly in my chest as I stared at Ares who was almost in my face.
His scent of mist and earth filled my nose as I shifted my legs a little in surprise and his breath against my neck made me jump a little. My knee buckled and hit something else.
His crotch!
Omg! Kill me now moon goddess please!
My cheeks flushed red when Ares flinched in pain, his eyes turning daggers and boring holes at me but I didn't bother looking up at him for fear as my forehead filled with sweat and my heart thumped loudly in my chest, praying silently he didn't hit me for it.
"Only for five minutes." Ares' gruff voice sounded close to my ears as he stood up, walking away from me back to his desk.
I still blushed, that must have hurt him and it was embarrassing as hell too.
Five minutes!
I grabbed the bread from the floor, tearing off the pack as I pinched a huge portion and threw it into my mouth hungrily. I couldn't stop the moan that escaped my lips as I munched the food quickly.
Boy, was he big there!
A voice filled my head and I choked loudly, the bread going through another hole as I slammed my fist to my chest, my cheeks flaming red as I remembered hitting Ares there.
Why did I have to think of that now?
I munched the bread, almost smiling in embarrassment as I peeked at Ares to see him looking away from me and shaking his head. .
Gosh. This was so embarrassing. I suddenly wished I had remained shackled. At least this wouldn't have happened.
I ate silently, hungrily and in haste. Ares was going to come back to chain me up again and I wanted to finish the bread before he did but I had been eating too quickly and soon I started to choke.
I coughed loudly, feeling the bread stuck in my throat and pulled my legs closer to me when I heard Ares stand up again.
"You're stupid." He said, sounding just like Jax and making me feel so small as he stood above me, throwing me a bottle of water that hit my shoulders.
His eyes were filled with so much hate as he looked down at me making me shift closer to the bed before he walked again to his table this time plugging earphones to his ears and ignoring me.
"You're stupid"
Those were the same words Jax had used on me many times and I remember feeling so small and belittled. I suddenly didn't want to eat anymore and I chugged down the water, feeling the bread go down my throat swiftly.
I dropped the bottle just beside me, wrapping the leftover bread and hiding it just under the bed just in case I felt hungry next time and Ares wasn't here.
I blinked past the tears in my eyes as I rubbed my wrist, my hand felt so heavy and my shoulder ached from having been in the same position for hours.
Wrapping my hands around my legs and drawing myself close, I rested my cheeks against my knee as I played with the tiny crumbs of bread on the floor.
Minutes turned to hours and Ares still worked silently on the desk, he must have forgotten to chain me up again and I didn't want to remind him. My wrists were swollen with red circles around it, and they had turned purple within hours.
I finally heard Ares yawn and I peeked at him from my hair as he slammed his laptop shut, rubbing his eyes tiredly and heading to turn off the lights.
My heart picked up as darkness filled the room and I gasped softly, trying to locate Ares in the room. I found his frame walking towards the bed as he drew back the curtains allowing the bright rays of the room shine through the dark drapes.
Ares wasted no time in climbing the bed, making it creak a little under his weight, he unbuttoned his shirt and fell face first against the bed.
His face was turned to me and his eyes closed and I found myself looking at him curiously. His eyes opened and I almost fell, they found my unchained wrist.
"If you so much as move an inch, I'll know and I'll chain you up again. Understood?" He asked, his eyes sleepy but stern as he warned.
I nodded sharply and he shut those blue eyes again and was out like the light.
I felt joy spark in me as it felt like for the first time Ares had trusted me enough to leave me unchained.
I looked at my wrists, my smile wide against my face, and for the first time as a slave.
I felt free.
