Ares.
I climbed the escalator, typing a message to Seth that this wasn't going as I thought. There were people everywhere and I didn't know where to go.
I was almost regretting my actions and I tucked my phone away and remembered the scars on Alora's wrist. They were a permanent shade of red because of the chains she must have been in from her master.
My heart clenched at the thought of it and her tear filled eyes too when those kids have been speaking to her. With my heightened hearing, I knew everything they had said and a part of me felt sorry that Alora felt so scared of the dog.
Reaching the top, I climbed off the escalator, checking my watch for the time as I had a meeting after this. Then I realized Alora wasn't behind me, so I turned sharply to the escalator.
There she was, holding the hands of some guy and from his scent he was human.
Who the hell was he?
A frown came upon my face as I saw Alora move closer to him in fright and he held onto her waist to hold her in place and my blood sparked.
The guy who was probably a few years older than Alora had a nice smile but I hated it as his hands moved lower Alora's back.
"It's ok. It's not that scary." He was saying, as Alora closed her eyes and rested her face against his chest, shaking her head fearfully.
I growled under my breath at their close contact and it took enough self preservation to not climb down the escalator and grab her away from him.
"It is." Alora whimpered, clenching her eyes shut and I could feel the fear radiating off her.
How come I didn't notice she was scared of the escalator?
The stairs moved higher and I twitched my jaw as they reached the top. Alora, still oblivious of me, finally pulled away from the guy and a sigh of relief almost escaped my lips but it stopped when the guy held onto her closer.
Alora giggled and he pulled out his phone. "Can I have your phone number?" He asked and my blood boiled in my veins as I growled and walked up to them, grabbing Alora's wrist and pulling her away from him.
"No you can't!" I yelled, making a few heads turn at me but I didn't care as the guy's eyes widened in surprise.
A fearful gasp escaped Alora's lips as she whimpered at my tight fist against her wrist but I didn't care. I could feel a brewing anger and my wolf clawing at my chest threatening to jump out and attack the guy.
"Uhm, are you with her?" He asked, pushing his phone down his pocket. He wasn't as built as me and I easily towered over him as I neared closer making him take a step backwards.
"Yes. Now move along." I said, giving him a glare as I used my Alpha tone, despite him being a human, my voice was commanding and dangerous and he glanced at Alora quickly before walking away.
I watched him go before I finally turned to Alora.
"What do you think you're doing, talking to another man?" I asked angrily as she covered her face with her other hand. I heard soft whimpers.
"I was scared." She said, wiping off tears from her eyes and all my anger melted away as I dropped her wrist.
A few people were watching us and I scratched the back of my head before I took Alora's hand and led her away from the stairs to one of the chairs and pushed her into it.
She avoided my gaze, looking down at her SpongeBob SquarePants slippers that I had gotten her. She wiped her eyes again and I sighed.
She was just like a child.
"You don't just talk to anyone. They could be a creep." I said after a while and Alora looked up at me, her violet piercing through my deep soul.
"Cameron was nice." She said softly and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
"That's what he wants you to think. You don't know him." I told her making her eyes water again as she looked away and back at her feet. There were little lights coming from the slippers when she moved and it seemed she was just noticing it for the first time as her eyes lit up and she turned back to me.
"Look, Ares! The slippers had lights in them." She said excitedly, pointing to her feet and I nodded, unable to look away from her face.
She had little attention span as she had completely forgotten about the incident. Her violet had sparked up, making her appear so innocent that I wanted to lock her away in my estate.
Alora was too pure for the world. I realized. She loved everything, trusted everyone and little things excited her.
Was she locked up for a long time?
I thought as my gaze trailed to her wrist. She probably was. Despite being happy, she was scared of things too. The escalator, the dog and loud noises.
She was a complete contrast to me. I grew up in violence and I adjusted to it. I was practically more wolf than human. It was expected of me, I was the Alpha.
But Alora..
She giggled as she stood up and looked over a cotton candy stall, bouncing on her feet as she clasped her hand in front of her, watching kids walk past her with their cotton candy in their hands of different colors.
..she was like a flower blooming for the first time.
"Do you want one?" I suddenly asked, rising to stand behind her as she nodded quickly.
I said nothing as I walked past her towards the cotton candy stall, leaving her to follow behind when I remembered the Cameron guy. Then I frowned and turned, making her take a step backwards, her fearful eyes looking up at me in surprise.
Alora bit down her lips as my heart thumped loudly in my chest at what I was about to do.
Do I hold her hand?
No!
But what if someone else holds onto her when you're not watching?
Ugh! Fuck this!
I don't care.
I said nothing else, growling under my breath as I turned away from Alora and walked quickly to the stall leaving Alora to run and catch up to me. I paid attention to the thumping of her heart and her scent so I knew she was close.
"One please." I said to the older man who nodded at me as Alora came to stand beside me, her eyes watching the machine curiously as she bit down her fingers, bouncing on her feet impatiently.
"What flavor do you want?" The man asked and I frowned.
How was I supposed to know that?
"Ask her." I said pointing at Alora who beamed and she looked down at the different flosses in a huge bowl. They had different colors and I didn't know which flavor they were. I couldn't remember the last time I had one. When I was five maybe.
Alora pointed at one of the bowls. "Pink vanilla." The man said and Alora nodded as if she knew what it was then turned to me with a smile.
"Is that nice?" She asked and I said nothing for a while admiring just how beautiful she looked.
One of her hair pins had loosened from all her jumping as her hair had fallen over her face, giving her a childish look as her black hair contrasted with her violet eyes.
"I guess." I responded, turning away from her when I felt something flutter in my stomach and Alora nodded, looking back at the stall as she tried to peer inside.
The hair pin fell off on the floor but she didn't notice and I looked away from it.
Something pricked my heart and I growled before bending low to pick it up and snatched Alora back so she was facing me.
She whined in fear before I pulled her hair back from her eyes and placed the hair pin on it. But it looked weird on her hair, definitely not the way Lana had done it and Alora looked up at me patiently.
Gosh, Ares,you're such an idiot!
Now I don't know how it was done. I coughed awkwardly as I pulled out the hair pin from Alora's hair, her soft hair falling over my fingers, leaving a tingling sensation.
How did they place this?
I pulled Alora's hair away from her face again as I placed the hair pin again, this time it looked more awkward than before and I felt anger in my veins.
I was the bloody Alpha of The Blood Moon Pack, dangerous, cruel and merciless. I was feared by all because I ruled with an iron fist.
The Blood Alpha was here trying to hold back a girl's hair with a hair pin.
And failing at it!
Looking down at Alora, she seemed to be distracted by the cotton candy the man was making and I almost sighed in relief at that.
Nothing screamed pathetic than this and I didn't want Alora to see me how awful I was at this.
"You guys look so cute together." A group of girls walked past in matching uniform, giggling and taking pictures of us before they walked away, their cheeks stained with a blush.
I frowned at them but it was use saying anything as they stared down at their phones and walked away, chattering excitedly.
I left the hair pin in an awkward placement on Alora's hair and I stepped back when she moved closer to the machine, pointing at another flavor on the bowl as the man modded.
Looked cute together?
Hmph! Alora was practically a child! There was no way I looked cute together with her. She was dumb and stupid also.
I stared back at Alora who was laughing at what the older man was saying. A tiny dimple appeared on her cheeks, making her appear younger as she pushed her awkward hair pin away from her face.
She was beautiful..very beautiful.
I could feel a strange emotion swirling inside of me and despite the full moon drawing close in a few days, I felt at peace. A dead calm inside of me as I watched Alora take the cotton candy from the man, a big ball of pink floss wrapped around a straw. A big smile was on her face as she grabbed the other one from him.
Then she walked away and towards me. It was like I was seeing her for the first time. Her long white gown made her appear like an angel, her SpongeBob SquarePants slippers glowed around her feet and she bounced excitedly making her hair rise and fall around her shoulders, her smile widened, genuine and happy.
"I got you one." Alora said, pushing a yellow cotton candy at me excitedly.
This time, my heart fluttered on my chest and I felt my stomach knot as I stated at the cotton candy Alora had pushed towards me as she waited patiently for me to take it from her.
I didn't take things like this. I was an Alpha, I didn't take cotton candy. But I couldn't find it in me to turn it down. It would shatter Alora that I didn't accept it from her and she was already too happy, I didn't want her to frown.
Or God help me, cry. Because I knew she could if I rejected it.
I looked around to see if maybe there were any of my pack members around. Because this was embarrassing to me as the Alpha. What would they think of their big bad Alpha taking candy from a slave nonetheless.
I found no wolf in sight and I couldn't scent any too.
I was going to regret this.
I turned back to Alora who was still smiling up at me still holding out the cotton candy to me, then I sighed and did the most regrettable and downgrading thing I've ever done as the Alpha of The Blood Moon Pack.
I took the cotton candy from her.
