Alora.
Before I woke up, I was floating in a sea of nothingness. There was only darkness, so thick that I could feel it clawing at my arms and feet. I was suspended in the air, falling deeper like I was being pulled into it with a rope.
But I couldn't move, couldn't struggle to stay afloat. I couldn't save myself and I closed my eyes, accepting my fate.
And soon there was a bright light in front of me, I could sense it from my closed eyelids and when I opened them, I was on the beach.
The sky was blue, a very bright blue and birds flew above me, squalling happily and I turned to the sun. It shone brightly, a bright yellow and it was hard to make out the outline from it.
And when I looked ahead I saw the ocean.
It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Since it was my first time seeing it, my mouth opened in awe as the waves came crashing around it. Water splashed around, drew closer to my feet. Making it cold and warm at the same time before it retracted back to the ocean leaving tiny foams behind.
The ocean was mesmerizing, its blue water ahead blended perfectly with the skies leaving only a line between them to differentiate the two entities. It was like a big wide blue canvas and I drew closer.
The air carried a bit of the water, cold and refreshing and I could even smell salt in it. But it was pure and when it ruffled my hair, I closed my eyes in bliss.
It was so calm.
Tiny bits of water clung to my body and I wrapped my arms around myself feeling a bit cold. I noticed I was wearing a long white gown and the material was thin. But I didn't mind.
The waves crashed in front of me again, pushing out water that met with my feet. They hugged my toes and I smiled before I bent down to pick up something in the water.
I didn't know what it was, but it was beautiful and white. I realized there were a few around and I bent to pick about two more.
And when I stood up again, the scene vanished and I opened my eyes to a dark room. A soft gasp escaped my lips as the only light that seeped through the curtains was from the almost full moon outside.
It was night. I thought as everything that had happened earlier came rushing into my mind.
Cameron wasn't who I had thought he was. Despite being human, he still worked for Jax. He was a part of Jax pack and I knew just exactly what his job was.
Jax did a lot of things outside being an Alpha. He ruled the pack, and other smaller packs, reigning as the superior in the werewolf community but that wasn't all. Jax was the CEO of a human company, he was in charge of CCTV stations and other models of security. He was powerful in the human world too. And his name was associated with a lot of wealth.
On top of that, in his secret hideout. Jax ran a human trafficking and drugs foundation. He kidnap young human girls, sold them off to powerful werewolves like him who needed human slaves. And even to other powerful humans in the world. Jax dealt with drugs too, importing and transporting hard drugs out of the country with the help of the government.
He had the backing of the werewolves, the human government and the humans who did his bidding, promised with a huge sum of money. They were loyal to him, swearing secrecy to him and while they knew he was a werewolf, an Alpha. They submitted to him, did whatever he asked.
I shuddered.
Jax was powerful, almost more powerful than Ares.
Cameron must have thought I was a human since there was a way he could identify a wolf. He had a device used in knowing if there was another being inside a person. He must have thought I was human and wanted to kidnap me and take me to one of Jax facilities.
Tears welled in my eyes at his words. It was possible that Jax already knew I was missing and I was sure he had sent some of his highly trained spies to look for me. Cameron worked more in the human society so he didn't know who I was. He didn't know what I looked like so he would have recognized me immediately and maybe taken me to Jax.
I wrapped my arms around my knees, drawing them close as I realized I had been changed from the revealing clothes to a pale green gown. A sigh of relief escaped from my lips but soft tears ran down my cheeks.
I couldn't imagine myself being back in Jax's pack. He was going to kill me slowly, torture me in ways I didn't expect and punish me in the most painful ways.
I buried my head in my knees as fear filled me, surrounding me so much that I feared I Cameron was going to be back to take me away.
But a sudden image flashed in my head. When Cameron injected my arm with a needle, I felt dizzy. The ground shifted underneath as I started to fall but he grabbed unto me. A sick smile on his face as his eyes glittered in amusement before I was finally engulfed in darkness.
The next time I managed to stay awake, there were strong arms around me, carrying me and when I looked up Ares was holding me. From the corner of my eyes I could see Cameron on the floor with a few other people lying dead around him. I felt sick a bit then I drew my eyes at Ares once more.
He was handsome despite the blood running past his temple and I could even feel something wet around my stomach but I could hardly stay awake anymore. Whatever Cameron had injected me with was pulling me back into the darkness.
But I wasn't scared anymore.
Ares had saved me.
He was holding me away from Cameron, he had killed them and taken me away, rescuing me even after I had yelled and ran away from him.
Ares was holding me.
A soft smile filled my lips as I closed my eyes, welcoming the darkness because I knew when next I opened my eyes, I would be safe.
I clinged closer to my knee, resting my cheeks against it as I started at the moon outside. It was going to be full in a few days and the pack ceremony would be held.
I heard something outside my door, making me perk my head at it. There was a shadow just underneath the door and I knew who it was.
Ares.
It had to be him. The house was probably empty by now, Lana and the girls would have gone leaving Ares and I in the house. And I wondered what he was doing there.
Was he there to drag me back to his room and chain me to his bed like he had threatened back at the mall?
A tiny fear tingled in my heart as I pushed myself back. Then I saw the shadow retracting.
He was leaving.
A sudden wave of emotion filled me and I threw back the covers of my bed and ran to the door, feeling twinges of pain under my feet but I didn't care as I drew back the door open.
Truly, Ares stood just outside my room.
He was wearing a long black robe that fell to his knees. His stomach was wrapped in a bandage and my eyes widened at him being hurt because of me.
There was surprise in his eyes as he stared at me with those blue cold ones. My eyes met his but Ares didn't say anything. Didn't do anything either.
I stood before him, unsure of what to say. Emotions filled me, a lot of them clashing with each other that it was hard to decipher what I was feeling at the moment.
Then Ares stepped closer to me. My breath got caught in my throat as he stepped closer. His eyes drew to my hair and I frowned when he touched them.
There was something in those blue eyes of his, not dark or dangerous but warm. It was the first time I was ever seeing Ares look at me.
His fingers wrapped around my hair, pushing a few past my eyes as they fell to my breast.
"Your hair.." Ares started to say as his eyes traveled down my hair to its tip. Shock on his eyes wrapped with warmth.
I reached for my hair, confused when my fingers brushed against Ares', a soft tingle sparked through me, spreading from my fingers to my stomach, fluttering the butterflies there.
Ares must have felt the same way because a soft gasp escaped his lips as his eyes widened. I didn't tear my gaze from him but I felt my cheeks burn red when I looked down.
That was when my eyes caught it. My hair that rested on my breast was no longer the shade of black but instead it was bright red.
I gasped in shock, stepping back at the sudden color change of my hair. It wasn't red as the color of blood but a bright shade that could pass as bright orange.
"How?" I choked out as Ares continued staring at me in surprise and I looked at him before I bright the rest of my hair to my face.
The rest of the hair was the same bright red and I grew more confused.
How did this happen?
When did this happen?
Why did this happen?
It wasn't possible that anyone had dyed it while I was asleep. It was like it had just happened magically and I frowned.
That wasn't possible.
I didn't have any weird powers, I didn't have a wolf. The moon goddess hated me to even bless me with anything except for masking my scent. I was practically useless, so how did this happen?
"I don't know either." Ares' voice filled my room as he stepped closer to me. The confusion fell away from his face as I stepped back away from him.
Sudden fear filled me. What was happening to me? First I was having dreams of being in a thick darkness then I was on a beach. There was too much happening at the same time I could hardly grasp an understanding of it.
A drop of test escaped my eyes, falling to the floor as I wrapped my arms around myself. Ares stepped closer, but I didn't have the strength to move away from him.
He was probably surprised by my hair that he had forgotten he wanted to take me back to his room as punishment. I closed my eyes, waiting for him to grab my hand and pull me out of my room.
But when he touched me, it was gentle and soft. His touch wasn't aggressive or cold. It was warm and then he started to wrap his hands around me.
My eyes widened as Ares engulfed me into a hug. My head rested on his wide rest and I closed my eyes in bliss.
These were the same arms that had saved me from Cameron, they had carried me away from a life of hell.
I suddenly felt safe, warm and protected.
Ares arms around me filled my heart with so much joy and for the first time in my life I felt at peace.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there in time to save you from Cameron." Ares said softly and tears filled my eyes, rolling down my cheeks as I clinged harder to Ares, not wanting him to leave me.
It was like if I was away from his arms, Jax and his men would take me away.
In Ares' arms, I felt safe and I didn't want to leave.
Ever.
I'm not crying, you are. I'm glad to see these two finally get closer. And Ares apologized! He really did. I hope the part with Cameron has been explained properly, some people had questions about it.
