The room went silent. Everyone was surprised. At this point, they knew they were all in trouble if she eventually became the CEO.
Kane stared at the broken remains of his phone. He never dreamt of having such a bad day. The employees around him remained silent. They looked scared and surprised. Mr. Barnard, meanwhile, stood smugly to the side. He had his arms crossed as though he had already won. He knew that what she did was bad, but since he wasn't affected, he was satisfied.
"First, I don't care who you are. You are going to buy a brand new phone for me. Secondly, I’m not leaving, not until the CEO comes and explains himself. He’s the one who hired me, and only he has the right to kick me out." Kane said but Daniella only smiled.
"It won’t change anything, Kane. Don’t you understand? By tomorrow, I will be taking over this company. I will be the new boss, and my decisions will stand. Your days here are already over. You can pick up the pieces of your phone and leave."
"That may be what you think, but until Desmond himself tells me to leave, I’m staying right here."
Before Daniella could deliver another scathing remark, the deputy manager stepped inside. He had been out answering calls. He was hearing their voices, but he decided to finish the call before showing up. He stared at Kane and Daniella, who stood glaring at each other, while the surrounded employees looked on in fear.
"What is going on here?" The deputy manager asked,
Kane turned to him, believing he would stand for him. "Sir, she’s trying to fire me." He said, gesturing toward Daniella. "She saw me sleeping, and I tried to explain to her, but she won’t listen to my reason. I’ve done nothing wrong, but she’s insisting that I leave."
Daniella scoffed, brushing off Kane’s explanation with a wave of her hand. "Why are you explaining as if he's going to save you? Stop wasting my time and leave already."
"Mrs. Daniella, with all due respect, Kane is one of the most talented programmers we have. He’s among the best, and his contributions have been invaluable to this company. Firing him would be a mistake."
"It doesn’t matter how talented he is. I’ve come to make changes—to set new rules. And anyone who doesn’t stand with me will be kicked out. Kane has already crossed that line."
"I think you are overlooking what Kane has done for this company. He has saved us multiple times during crises, and he’s been responsible for several upgrades that have improved efficiency. If you fire him, you will hurt the company." The deputy manager said, but pride wouldn't let her change her mind. She wanted to stand by what she had said. Accepting Kane back would reduce her sneeze. She wanted to show how powerful she is.
"I don’t care about what he had done in the past. This is about the future, and I’m making decisions that will pave the way forward. Kane isn’t part of that future."
"I didn’t cross any line, Mrs. Daniella. All I did was my job. Working tirelessly to ensure this company runs smoothly." He said, but however, Daniella was not interested in hearing further explanations. Her patience had run out, and she was determined to exercise her authority.
"Enough! Security!" She shouted, and two security guards entered the room in seconds. "I want Kane escorted out of this building. He fired!"
