"I know you will come up with something to deny me my right. How...how did this happen? How did you get this, and how did you have my signature there?"
Desmond didn’t respond, fueling Daniella’s growing sense of dread with silence. She turned to Leonard, who sat beside her with a stunned expression. He also didn't't see that coming. He was still confused on whether she really signed the pape, or if it was a fake one.
"Mrs. Daniella." The judge continued, "If you would like to contest this document further, you may do so. However, all the evidence points to its authenticity. It bears your signature, and it has been verified by the appropriate authorities."
Daniella shook her head, never ready to back down. "I didn’t sign anything! I can swear with my life. This must be a mistake. It has to be fake!"
Her lawyer, who had remained silent up until now, finally rose up to speak. "Your Honor," she began, "if I may, my client insists she did not sign this document. While I can see the evidence before me, it’s possible that she was tricked into signing it without realizing its contents." Her lawyer said, even though she knew that it wouldn't help the situation.
"Whether she was tricked or not, the fact remains that the document is signed, stamped, and valid. The law does not provide allowances for claims of being tricked after the fact. I'm sure you can't provide evidence on how she was tricked. The signature is hers, and the agreement is binding." The judge said, and Daniella turned to her lawyer. "Please, you have to do something!" she hissed. "You can’t let this happen! This can never happen."
The lawyer sighed deeply and shook her head. "I wish I could, Daniella," she said softly. "But this document is airtight. It’s original. It’s valid. I'm sorry. My hands are tied. There’s nothing I can do to change that."
Daniella felt the ground beneath her metaphorically give way. She clenched her jaw, her mind racing for any possible solution. But every thought led her back to the harsh reality staring her in the face. The prenup was real, and it left her with nothing.
The judge cleared her throat, bringing the room’s attention back to her. "Given the validity of the prenuptial agreement, Mrs. Daniella will not be entitled to any of Mr. Desmond’s properties, assets, or possessions, including all the things Desmond bought for her during their relationship." The judge declared, and Daniella’s breath hitched. The weight of her words hit her hard like a physical blow. She could see the victory she had envisioned slipping through her fingers like sand. It was like a nightmare, but unfortunately, it was real. She could not believe she was losing the battle.
She turned to Leonard, hoping for some kind of support or defense, but he looked just as shaken as she felt. He avoided her gaze, staring down at the table with clenched fists, unable to muster a single word.
"This...this is unacceptable!" Daniella finally shouted in anger. "You can’t do this to me! I can't come this far and fail. I have spent and sacrificed a lot to lose."
"I am not doing anything to you, Mrs. Daniella. The agreement you signed is binding, and the evidence is clear. You signed that you will leave empty if you guys eventually divorce. You signed that you will not take anything from him, even the things he bought for you. That you are not entitled to any of his properties. So if you have no further legitimate claims, this matter is concluded."
